Why Pre Order?

wrightstufwrightstuf Member UncommonPosts: 659

Why would anyone pre order this game? The only thing you get from doing so is 1 day head start. There is no release date other than "sometime in 2012"

While true, with a pre purchase you have to pay full price and you may have a bigger issue getting a refund if you wanted. At least you can participate in the beta events.

I'm sure Anet loves the ones that do, but to me thats financial irresponsibility at its worst.

the only reason to preoder is if you want the Collector edition - which have limited supplies

    otherwise, no need

    Beta access...

To turn it around, since i liked GW1 and i was going to buy this game no matter what, why don't prepurchase it and get beta access?

As for pre ordering, well you will pay once the game is shipped and you can cancel the preorder when you want, so it's a free day of head start, why not?

  • FalcomithFalcomith Member UncommonPosts: 831

If you plan on getting the game anyway, might as well pre-purchase.  And if you havent pre-purchased, dont wait to long as the pre-purchase option wont last until release according to arenaNet twitter post a few nights back.

I cant see a benefit of preordering at this point. Only after the pre-purchase is no longer available.

you dont get beta access with a pre order. thats partly my point. if your plan is to pre order, the financially smart thing to do would be to wait until 2 days before release. that way ay least you could take advantage of your one day headstart

As others have stated, to get the perks of a CE before they run out is the only valid reason

At least here in EU from big retailers we don't get billed till the product is shipped so preordering a month or 2 days before release doesn't change when you are billed.

As i said, is 1 head start day without any cons, why not?

Oh awkward yeah you actually do get CBT weekend betas in the lead up to the game... I pre purchased because I'm going to get the game anyway and would like to try out all the classes in the betas.

    why not

from almost every review to come out it sounds amazing

from the  video footage  it looks amazing

the only  thing i worry about is lack of content as i havent seen rank 80 stuff

but as you dont pay a sub fee  if i get 30 hours of game out of it then you get your moneys worth and pvp alone will probably do that at least

So you feel that because you "Pre-Order" you should get more? Then a one day head start.? Lets be clear here first you understand the diffrence between Pre-order? and Pre-Purchase?

1)Pre-Order you put down 10% of the game (depending on where you do so EB/GAMESTOP/BB etc.)You only get 1 day head start and 5 days to buy the game Code . I don't really see where that is an issue so you get to try a game "When it launches which will most likely be soon"For 6 days for $10.00 If you don't like it go back to GameStop/EB/BB and get your $10.00 back

2)Pre-Purchase depending on what you get the regular gives you 3 days head start/beta acess and In game Item. While deluxe gets you more in game items and same as base. The CE well Look it up. "But" with Pre-Purchase your paying the whole price. It really depends on you I guess if you can't  afford 59.99 or 79.99 or even 149.99. Then do it just do the Pre-Order if you don't think the game is going to do well or you are having doubts then well obviously don't Pre-Purchase.

I however don't look at it as financial iresponsibility This a F2P game and there sales come from well the sales of the game.Getting an idea of how many people are allready going to buy it along with Word of mouth sales etc. Is not a bad thing but a company getting projections of what gaming community looks like is a good thing. So stop QQn and do or don't honestly people don't really care I have bought it in full. If it's good it is. If not oh well lost $59.99 and Ill play it casually and try to enjoy whatever aspect of the game I find interesting because in the end it's still F2P.

Nothing in his post indicates he's complaining about not getting enough.

Yes, he does understand the difference between pre-purchase and pre-order. That's the whole point of this thread.

Pre-order = tell a merchant that you want the game when it is released. You pay at release.

Pre-purchase = buy the game now, from ArenaNet or an approved merchant. You pay now. You get into beta next weekend.

We've seen some of the end-game content. They have it.

I preordered it from Amazon. You say this is financial irresponsiblity at its worst but I disagree. When you preorder a game from Amazon you are charged nothing. They just reserve a copy of the game for you and charge you only when the game is released and they ship it to you. It does not cost any extra money and I don't have to put any money down. Shipping is also free and there is no tax (at least in my state). You only pay for the game ($59.99). Also, if you get release day shipping, which is usually only $0.99, they ship the game to you a few days before its official release date so that its at your doorstep the day of release.

You do not lose anything from preordering.

    I've seen enough.

    I want it anyway.

$60 is a tiny amount of money.

    3 day head start.

  • wrightstufwrightstuf Member UncommonPosts: 659

you people going on about the 3 day head start do realize its only 1 day? you need to pre purchase to get the 3 days. this thread is about pre ORDERING

In your scenario, you do lose. you've lost the only incentive given by pre ordering in the first place. the 1 day head start

If it arrives at your doorstep the day of release, how will you start a day early?

  • DignaDigna Member UncommonPosts: 1,994

    Pre-order - 1 day head start

    Pre-purchase - 3 days head start.

You pay in full up front for the pre-purchase so you get a bit more (of course the beta weekends will be nice too)

Yeah, I misread your post. You are specifically talking about pre-order, not including pre-purchase in your argument.

I suppose it would be for the 1 day head start and because you don't want to commit $60 to a game without a release date or not enough info out yet.

Like some poeple said earlier, they didn't even ahve to pay to pre-order.

  • DignaDigna Member UncommonPosts: 1,994

I bought it (pre-PURCHASED) because I knew I would be playing it when it came out, good bad or indifferent reviews aside. So the pre-purchase which would have been money spent under any circumstance (for me) just came with a few goodies.

Because they already have the game downloaded and ArenaNet flags the one day preorders to play early just like every single other mmorpg with an early access - thats how Amazon and other preorders will play a day of head start - you havent needed the physical box in years for mmorpg launches that offered preorders - you simply plug the key that comes in the physical box on release day and keep going on also

And fyi, i have pre purchased the game. i look foward to it. I did so, because i get something for my money

First you begin by questioning peoples' motives to preorder a game, which is an unnecassary and trivial question to which the answer has no meaningful impact on anything and is a down right silly thing to argue about.

Then you say "the only thing you get." This phrase implies that we will not be compensated enough for our transaction. You also say, "at least you can participate in beta events." Again, implying that we are not being compensated enough. However, in another post you say "I never said i thought you should get more from a pre order. nowhere in my OP did i even imply it."  Yes you did imply it by saying "the only thing you get."

Next you mention the fact that there is no release date. The context in which you have mentioned this implies that it would be unwise to preorder this game because you don't know when it will release, if ever, so it would be more responsible to at least wait until a release date is set before preordering. However, in another post you say "i have pre purchased the game. i look foward to it. I did so, because i get something for my money." This is actually more irresponsible than just preordering the game (which you can do without paying anything by the way), because you have payed full price for something that does not even have a release date. This makes you sound like a hypocrite.

Again, by saying "i get something for my money" you imply that we are not getting enough for our money (even if we preorder without any extra cost to us), but only a couple of lines ago you said, "I never said i thought you should get more from a pre order. nowhere in my OP did i even imply it." But, in fact you have already implied this several times. And we are getting something by the way, we are getting a one day head start and the game when it releases.

    Good day sir.

Because, they are emotional and want to feel the excitement they will have from knowing that they have prepurchased. They want to live in their own little bubble of happiness and they are prepared to pay the price for it. They don't care about what  kind of signals they are sending to the company and MMORPG companies in general: they just want instant gratification for their emotional needs.

If someone said this to me for Diablo3, then I would agree.  It boils down to trust, and I trust Arenanet more than I trust Blizzard.  Also, I have followed GW1 and GW2 for many years.  I have been a fan for so many years, and been dying to get my grubby paws on this game so long that every bit of information that I find I enjoy watching or reading.  With sooo much time is spent reading about ArenaNet and seeing how they have operated in the past up until now, I trust them when they say things.  If I pre-ordered or pre-purchased Diablo3 it would be based on nothing... and therefore I would be blindly doing it.   Your comment would be justified for me in this case.  Though when it comes to Arenanet, I feel I "know" them quite well, and so far they have not let me down.
