TERA Client Download Keeps Shutting Off My Inet!

FuryVFuryV Member UncommonPosts: 515

I have Pre-Ordered the game, and therefore it's allowed me to download the game.  The problem is (and I've seen others with this problem also) it keeps shutting my internet off completely.

It's now at 45% downloaded, although it's taken absolutely AGES to get to that point.  It's going at a high speed, no problems in that regard, but after 20 mins or so my inet connection shuts off completely and I have to restart my router & modem before I can carry on downloading.

Is there any way around this?  I'm hoping to get into the Open Beta, but it doesn't look likely at this point, considering I can't download the game without it shutting my inet off for some reason.

Thanks guys.

Breathe, calm down, the open beta isn't until Friday noon PST.

    Screenshot/description of your launcher settings?

Edit: preorder :) Grr, damn headache.

If you didn't disable the peer-peer option in the downloader... I'd try that.

Beyond that if you have other computers on the router do they actually lose net access?

If other computers don't lose net access... personally I'd go into device manager look at your NIC properties and see if the little box "let the computer shut this device off to save power" is checked (this happens with desktops too by the way).   If it is.. uncheck it and see if that helps.

Limit your upload in the p2p to 64 kbs.

I'm not sure if this will help your issue, but try turning of P2P Sharing in the launcher settings. My dl speed would slowly decrease to nothing until I turned that off.

Did you turn off peer to peer off in the settings? That tends to kill people's download speed. There might also be an influx of people downloading but I'm not sure you'd get that effect.

Just not worth my time anymore.

Yeah, don't worry, it didn't break your INET, just change the P2P settings like others recommended and you'll be done with the download in no time.

OK, well I've now disabled P2P & limited my upload to 64kb/s.  I feel like a bit of a dick for doing it (not sharing blah blah blah), but I'll have to see if it works now.

I'll keep this thread updated if I run into the same problems, which knowing my luck will be in 20 mins or so.

    Thanks again.

I'm back unfortunately.  I did everything suggested, yet after downloading for 30 mins my inet seems to get disabled, and I have to restart my hardware.

The only thing that seems to fix it so far, is plugging my modem directly into my PC instead of through a router.  I have no idea why this works, but it does.  I've not experienced any disconnects or inet shut offs whatsoever when doing this.

I just hope it's a patcher problem and won't persist through to the actual game, because I have 2-3 PCs hooked up in my house through the router, therefore I don't want to just limit my connection to ONE PC by not using the router.

To answer the previous poster's question... Yes, all my other PCs hooked up to the router lose inet access when it disconnects after 20-30 mins or so. :(

I should just add that this has NEVER happened before.  I've had this router/modem/connection combo now for a few years and TERA seems to be the only thing that has ever caused this.  I've downloaded WoW, Rift, Aion, AoC, you name it, with no problems whatsoever, especially not having my inet shut off completely until I restart the router/modem.

I'm not bashing the game whatsoever though, it's obviously just a problem to which I don't know the solution... yet.

Turn off p2p. And just let it run, don't watch it, lol.

Yeah that would be a pain. Have their been similar downloads of this size you've done? I imagine yes but I wonder if it's not a bandwidth problem since the computers are shared. Is there "Internet activity" by the other comps while the download is going?

I wonder if there isn't some security measures by EME going on in the background. Sounds strange but there could be some protocols going in the background of the download.

Have you posted your problem on the main site yet? Also check or put a question in Tera Answers. It's a great way to get info. Sorry you are having such a hard time.

No worries, not your fault ^^

I actually live in the EU, therefore I'm downloading the EU client, although I've heard some people using the NA version have experienced the same problem.  I have been making sure that whilst the game has been downloading, inet usage on the other PCs has been kept to an absolute minimum.

I have posted this same thread on the EU forums, although considering it's Frogster and it's crap, I've not had any replies whatsoever yet.

Bah! Well I hope unplugging the other comps work and you are able to play tomorrow.  Once you have the bulk loaded I can't imagine the updates being bad but who knows.
