Reminds me of the time i ditched my senior home coming to stay at home and play final fantaxy vi.  I had Strep throat a few weeks before and told my date it was coming back.

I had a friend who had an elaborate plan for skipping work. She worked fore the city, and they gave a day off for any immediate family death.  So she would call around to funeral homes (sometimes in other states) and see who died and when she needed a day off she'd just say my uncle/aunt "this" died.  Then go to the funeral (at the end) and pick up a brochure for proof.

She would do this whenever we through a party. She must have had soem 15 to 20 people die a year.

Her family must have very bad genetics to have that many deaths in a year, tsk tsk.

One thing I'd never do is lie about a death, that's serious. Save your time off or your lies, if you have to use them, lol. There will be a headstart before release you'll rather use that time on. I wouldn't use it on a beta weekend.

Food poisoning is the best. Everyone knows how that ends (coming out both ends) and that just can't be questioned lol...

Just call in and tell them "ninjas". That is all that need to be said.

Gastro, Nobody wants you to come into work when you are shitting through the eye of a needle and vomiting like you have been punched in the duodenum.

Just say in a very serious almost sad way that you got "Serious family issue going on" If they believe you they wont press the issue. Then again just taking it off 2-3 weeks in advance is the way to go.

This...in multiples!  She frankly either had a very stupid manager, or that citry is so lax, it must be going broke!  As a (former) manager - she would have been taking unpaid leave (with all the repercussions involved) after the third 'death' with the company I work for - and with 12 - would have been on a final warning unless she could provide documentation (and no, funeral notices don't count)

As a gamer, I was always more lenient with those that chose to tell me the truth.  Also as a gamer - those that called in 'sick' on every major release were pretty much busted.  If you were honest, I'd do my level best to make sure you got a vac day or at worst an unpaid day off.

That's not to say *I* never called in sick for a major release (hey now, what';s good for the goose always isn't good for the gander :D)  but my boss wasn't a gamer - so she never had a clue.  I pretty much always managed to luck into vac time anyways.  2 weeks at BC launch, Wrath launch, War launch, AOC launch (THAT was a wasted vacation :D)

My work has a policy that after 10 years of employment, in the 11th year you can take a full calendar month leave (besides my normal annual leave). I am so going to use this when I find out when GW2 is released as I am in my 11th year. So no excuses needed for me! Paid to play gw2! :)

this always works. especially if you say its comin out both ends.

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

If you intent to play GW2 during work hours, take a day off and don't cheat the system that's just lame ;p
