I agree with Kehdar.. every beta I have been in for the past at LEAST 3 years have had very little in chat besides WoW this, Blizzard that.. either complaining about the beta game or complaining about WoW. My weekend beta in Tera I rarely heard anything about GW2.. it was about WoW, Elin and complaints about Tera stuff.. and praise as well.

agreed.. there wasnt that much gw2 in the tera-chat ive seen so far..

also dont know the purpose of that thread and/or the opener.. or is it just another tera-vs.-"better"-gw2-fanboy-talking?

For me my TERA beta experience breaks down like this: 3 Hours downloading the clinet, staring it.

    Graphics and Character creation:

Can`t complain it`s unreal 3 engine, it looks nice, though with that korean touch that might not be everyones cup of tea.

Creating my char (castanic warrior female) I thought well this game looks kinda nice, kinda sexed up but meh, I don`t care much for it, when you`re married and all.... lots of options to make your toon look individual.

I liked them so its 8,5/10 for me

    Combat:

Yeah I sorta liked the combat, though I think they could have done better. The caracter seems to stop here and there when casting or doing this or that, kinda braking the flow of the game. And I would have really liked more dodging. There was a dodging/jumping skill but it only jumped in one direction and had a rel. long cooldown. I found it kind of annoying as warrior having to spam the left mouse button or keeping it pressed for a sort of auto attack, I don`t know you probably can turn it off or do it another way. but I din`t like that at all, it was just like meh hold down the button for auto attack. Other than that and the breaks in the flow it was ok, Though at my low level it seemed like spam spam spam left mouse button.

    Still 7/10

    Questing:

Starting area. I first noticed only one starting area for all races and classes, but oh well. The quests, I couldn`t be bothered reading them, it was just like pick them all up and talk to this guy talk to that guy.... Then kill x tree looking thigs... brought that quest back... kill them again for some drop item... brought that back... kill them agian for yet another drop item...

At this point I was like WTF? But kept going. Then I had to kill these groups of mobs, and I thoguth ok kill 8 of those... Then I want on a bit further got another quest killing me groups of mobs just like the last ones, just with another mob model...

The quests seem like a no brainer to me, I noticed I just pretty much picked up all quests I could get. I didn`t even pay attention to what quest I was doing, I just killed anything with an ! next to their name, and some quest would get done eventually. It seemed like a nice idea to mark mobs that you need for a quest, but at least for my personal taste this feature backfired.

For me the questing was really weak so 3/10.

Overall I can see how this game will have it`s fans and a nice little community for people who dig a game that bings nice graphics and a fresh combat system that can be really strong and with a litte tweaking done it could be superb. So if half naked woman and a nice looking world can distract you from the horrid questing it might be your game. Unfortunately I don´t  dig the questing so I deinstalled it after my first impression. But it might be worth looking into it once in a while. But right now it`s not worth 15 bucks a month for me.

    Total roughly 6.5/10 for me.

Not only is it true, but there is plenty of it right here, on MMORPG Tera forums....lol

Many of my friends are lost souls that are swearing by Tera.  Problem is they are the kind of friends who are prideful and hate being wrong about a game, and I've been so excited about GW2 that they are going to have to admit that Tera is the worse game, and they are delayin the inevitable.

They keep coming back to graphics because thats all they have going for it, and they insist that GW2 looks like shit.  I laugh

Both are graphically in the same leaugue, when you compare pixels/shaders/polygons/resolution with their performance.

TERA style looks great, but GW2's artistic style looks even better (personal opinion) its sometimes like walking in a painting.

its just means those who are playing Tera atm are waiting for GW2 so expect a large sub drop once GW2 is out.

The fact that during beta tests, people tend to compare the game to its competition is quite well-known.

I played Tera beta for like 2 or 3 hours (until I got bored) and have not seen GW 2 mentioned one single time, so I guess it isnt that bad

That must've been nice. Which server are you on? Lol.

When I tried the game out, the chat was FLOODED and I don't mean that term loosely, with people bashing GW2.  I couldn't see anything but 'GW2 Sucks!' spammed over and over. Rather annoying tbh. There were a few people asking questions about it 'why don't you like it?' or 'what's bad about it?' but they were drowned out. (and it wasn't just one person spamming. I must've seen at least a dozen different names in chat).

2nd time I tried the beta (this weekend), it was more of the same. More breaks in between the spam (so it did die down a little) but still spam heavy. I wouldn't mind more of a comparison, and I think one may need to be made, but general chat was just something else entirely. Looked like every GW2 forum troll crammed into one game.

I too eventually got bored of it all, and just logged off. No idea how it is now.

Open beta, more people who may just be trying out TERA for the sake of it.  More people who don't view GW2 as a threat.  Less people bashing it...

Actually I saw a number of people asking the usual questions we see here in general chat.  you know, the "can I be a healer" questions or similar things like that.

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

That's unfortunate. Stylistically it really comes down to personal choice. I would say that TERA does have better graphics in the traditional sense, but it's very much that asian-anime look. Some people love it, others not so much.

That said, I don't really see the point in bashing one game or the other. One of the good things about GW2 is they can play both if they really wanted to. I think this 'our game vs. yours' thing is primarily a one-sided argument. A lot of GW2 fans I know don't expect to play GW2 exclusively. They just think it will be a fun game and want to enjoy it.

Both games will have their audiences. Personally I don't care if TERA succeeds or not, it's got it's own following and they seem to enjoy it. GW2 seems more inline with what I want, and I was having a lot more fun in GW2. So, that's what I will be playing.

Cool. I would've much preferred that over what I saw.

I probably should've taken some screenshots, but I literally saw continuos GW2 bashing for almost 2 days straight. It got bad enough where I was trying to find ways to turn the chat channel off. It seemed mostly confined to the first channel or 2, though. Could've just been my server, it was one of the PvP ones. I wanna say Jagged Isle? (I think that was the name), but I honestly can't remember.

i still have yet to see a problem worth complaining about, didnt even see a problem with the elin, first off they arent human and are all adults second they all look like cutesyed up 19-26 year olds who are very petite. known plenty of people of that height who were around 16-26 ish so meh for all the complainin about the elin.

so what? heck there are/were cultures where men wore makup and flowery scents so beyond a cultural stupidity block in the u.s. (essentialy us in the united states must be mostly idiots) honestly dont get the people getting up in arms over this stuff and im christian to boot.

    <---very confuzzled

ayyyyynyyyyways as to the topic, meh the ratio of morons who know nothing/lie about the game to try and make it look better is no higher in gw2 than any other game there are just more fans here in general, really where is that graphic representing the haters and other game bashers from that other thread we need to spread that around a bit.

Ugh.. I have issues with the Elin, personally. To me it looks like a cross between child-porn and bestiality. Maybe it's just because I have a 10 year old daughter, but I find it rather offensive. Not everyone will, but that's my own personal take on it.

The problem with elin is the problem with all the females in the game, they walk and act in a VERY sensual way, i mean if you are playing a female in that game, whyle runing all you see is her butt and her underwear i just cant understand it.

perfectly understandable that u view it that way volk, at least you arent insulting people who dont (like some did in the short investigation i made after seeing this thread). as for banisco i understand that and agree with it tho i really dont follow terra so i didnt kno that. (anyone think the elin thighs look freakishly large, like the same as a mascot with a freakishly large head?).

Well I have been in every closed beta for the game and the open beta and I see no more discussion about GW2 than any other game. Any one in betas or in newly launched MMOs knows these discussions always happen in general chat.

While I to am excited about GW2 I will echo the question of a couple others in this thread and ask the purpose of the OP lol. Seems like a hidden agenda post to me, but meh that is just my opinion.

I made multiple characters on different servers.  Since you can only have 1 per server.

Found it hilarious that Area chat was filled with GW2 chat in the first server just to find out the other two servers were pretty much the same.

Because TERA has such good graphics and awesome combat system, to me it made the questing system so glaringly horrible almost an after thought.  I've played a lot of korean grind games and this seems like one of them with fancy graphics and combat mechanics because the questing system / writing / story line was very meanigless and boring...

That being said no wonder everyone is discussing how this wont be an issue in GW2.  Anyways.  I too seen mostly GW2 on 1 server? no 3 servers...  If I was the sales department / marketing individuals for Tera I'd be a little concerned.

I could easily log into any of those 3 servers right now and Screen shot at any given moment and you'll see more comments about GW2 then any other game... I'd be shocked that is different on other servers.

I too have been in my share of beta's where people discussed and compared other games.  this is one of the only ones I've been in where people are discusted that something like TERA, a 2 year old game, is now being released with box + sub fee and has such glaring flaws such as the quest system when this same year games such as GW2 are being launched.  In RIFT beta I saw comparisons to WoW and other games, but the majority of conversations in Area chat in TERA aren't comparisons but mear disappointments.

Not really interested in sharing or showing someone on daily basis the GW2 101... If someone already knows about the game it means he likes it, if they don't really know much it only means they're either too lazy to look it up a bit more or just not interested at all (or just not interested enough yet)...

Whoever want's to know more about any game he should visit forums or the games website, mmorpg in-game general chats are not the places to start explaining some lazy idiot about another game... Not under any circumstances.

Is not the same statement as "Blizzard invented Mmorpg"! I have never heard anybody claim that. Using your logic, I have seen similar statements from the GW2 community. "Raiding was invented by WoW", paladins and death knights were invented by WoW. Somebody even said WoW invented Druids on the GW2 forum. So....
