that would mean it does 5 thermal damage to the target. That is the unmodified amount. There are modifiers to take into account though. Things like shield and armor hardeners, gun damage modifiers, gyro stabelizers, skills and various other things.
what does base sheild/armor damage mean than? such as 75 thermal damage, 60 base sheild and 48 base armor?
i thought the base damage was a percentage but for guns it was like 5 thermal damage, 5 base shield and 5 base armor. a percentage doesn't seem right then. a randome number btw mrpopov.
Shield hit points have high resistances to Explosive and Kinetic damage. For example, at a resistance of 50%, you only take half damage from explosive damage types.
Armor hit points have high resistances to EM and Thermal damage. All the "base damage" is saying, that at A Em and B Thermal damage, your base shield damage is A x (EM shield resistance) + B x (Thermal shield resistance)

be more specific. what kind of gun were you looking at? was it equipped? in cargo? on market? what was it called?

Make a difference!

You have 3 types of p"hit points" on your ship:
Shield, Armor, and Structure (in that order)
Shield hit points have high resistances to Explosive and Kinetic damage. For example, at a resistance of 50%, you only take half damage from explosive damage types.
Armor hit points have high resistances to EM and Thermal damage. All the "base damage" is saying, that at A Em and B Thermal damage, your base shield damage is A x (EM shield resistance) + B x (Thermal shield resistance)
Same goes for armor.
Structure has 0 resistance.
