LF a healthy F2P RPG with a friendly and decent sized Roleplaying base

aozgoloaozgolo Member Posts: 6

I've been a fan of Fantasy based MMOs from WoW to Darkfall, but I've never really found a game with a good RP base. I'm getting tired of playing "by the numbers" where guilds are only considered good if they have high raid progression, or your worth as a player boils down to item levels. So I want something that has a friendly community where you can actually slow down and get into character and just enjoy playing something else.

Breakdown:

Genre: Must be fantasy, I want to play a character, not a vehicle or a floating hand with a gun

Pay Model: F2P is preferred, already paying for two MMOs, an item mall is fine as long as it doesn't unbalance the game

Races: I really would prefer multiple fantasy races, especially if they offer exotic types (such as beast races, not just human/elf/dwarf)

Classes: Really don't care, could have lots or none.

Gameplay style: again, don't really care, I can deal with WoW style sticky targetting or manual aim

PvP: Doesn't matter to me, I played Darkfall for over a year, I can handle PvP but not a big deal if it isn't there.

Clans: Definitely want there to be in-game clan/guild support

Game Age: I don't care how old the game is, as long as there is a healthy balance of new/older players.

Style: It can be downright cutesy anime or gothic dark style, again, I don't care.

The big thing for me right now is I just want to be able to roleplay a character and get immersed into the game's environment with other players.

F2P and roleplaying?  Maybe Lord of the RIngs Online - try an rp server if they have any left.  F2P promotes a crap community (even worse than a pay to play).  Usually cash shops and bots galore = f2p..

Hey there. I think you re-did your post and I'm not sure if you responded to my suggestion but AION might be a good choice for you. It just wnet F2P last week and I think has a lot of what you're looking for. Plus, when it went F2P it didn't gimp you lik ea lot of ther F2P models do. Especially if you don't mind grinding, I think this owuld be an excellent choice from what I've played so far.

With that being said, it might be helpful to know what game you have played. But I wish you all the luck with finding the type of game you're looking for.

Aion doesn't look bad, I might give it a try, I just am not crazy about the lack of playable races, it seems there are only two and they both look alike to me.

As far as MMOs I have played, the only two significant ones I spent lots of time in are World of Warcraft and Darkfall Online. I have also tried others like Lord of the Rings Online, Vanguard, Warhammer, and Runescape, but didn't really get hooked in during the first few days to keep going.

I'll preface this by saying that I don't really play much PvP so even in the games that I list, we're not really talking about the PvP aspect of them.

In addition to Aion, if you're looking for a good MMO, here's a couple more that I would suggest. First, give Everquest 2 a shot. It really was the first MMO that I had become addicted to. I'm not sure how that game is since it went F2P but it seeems to have a much bigger community now and I think as far as content, it has one of the better experiences.

Dungeons and Dragons Online might also be something you might want to at least give a shot. It's different because, most things are instanced but still a solid game, in my opinion.

The Landroval server in Lord of the Rings Online has some pretty strong roleplayers there. I would check it out, if you haven't before.  It's F2P, so there's no harm.

No role-playing game will outshine a good old fashioned MUD in terms of RP quality, frequency and even immersion. The game requires you to be immersed just to play, you can't help but RP. Try out Midkemia, I really think it's what you're looking for. It's text-only, but give it a good, honest shot. Make sure you type: newbie I am new to MUDs, could I get some help?

if you get confused or anything! There are a lot of really nice and helpful people out there in the game, and newbie is entirely OOC, so don't feel like you need to find a way to ask for help on game mechanics ICly.

I suggest you look into Eden Eternal, it has multiple races.. From frog, bear, mouse and child.. And the ever so classic.. Human xD

Its F2P with an item mall that dosent unbalance the game.

LOTS of classes to unlock, which you can change between at any time..

Player owned houses, which hav been done very tastfully, and dont ruin the game, lots of cosmetic items, enchantments, accessories, and alot of different mounts!

Its defionatly worth a look, Guilds play a big part in the massive PvP battles, theres even arena games 3v3..

    Enjoy!!

You want Lotro and you need to choose Landroval server. It is heavy RP and the community is the best in any mmo imho
