No, developers haven't lost their touch... gamers have turned into spoiled little brats.
Yeah, you're right. When you're not pleased with a product, you should just keep your mouth shut and be thankful for what you have.
What a fucking joke.
when you are not pleased with a product, you should find other product that pleases you...
but if you can't find it in the market...
it's because you are the problem, so then, you should keep your mouth shut and be thankful for what you have, because you clearly don't know what you want.
I don't think they have lost their touch at all. It's a very fun game so far in the beta, I don't understand why most people have to find fault in everything. I'm enjoying it and that's all that really matters though isn't it? If people enjoy it, then it's a good release. If they didn't then whatever, they don't have to play it.
I agree the game is a testament Blizzard hasn't lost their touch at making games. The quality gameplay and improvements over the previous Diablo games is making this game an instant classic.
Played the beta, game is solid, the overall impression is a bit of "meh" though. The playstyle feels a little bit too arcade-y for my tastes. Torchlight already simplified/streamlined the genre and D3 is bringing it one step further for the sake of "fun". The game will certainly sell well and will be fun to play through once/twice, but I'm not sure it will bring the same cult status as D2 had, it feels just too simplified for that to happen.
I mean, looking at the D3 "builds" makes me cringe. Just compare this to something like this.
Before I go further, they did do a really good job w/ Starcraft 2. It's a solid game, and it's still a lot of fun. I had my doubts about it on release, but I enjoy it.
That said, most of the talent from Blizzard, who are responsible for most of the games we love and have given Blizzard their name & standard of excellence (can do no wrong), have left. Not unlike Square-Enix, they are living off of these colossal legacies left behind by some brilliant game designers. For the purpose of this game, the designers behind Diablo I and 2 no longer work there, and it shows. The game looks a lot like it was given to some new designers, who had to fill some big shoes that they didn't know how to deal w/.
Blizzard still has some talent there, but I would say their capacity to churn out stellar game after stellar game is gone. We'll have to see how the next starcraft expansion looks (i'm sure it'll be fine), and there may be another good game when they release their next MMO (although, they are primarily known for taken other people's ideas and streamlining them. That may be really tough to do with this new wave of MMOs, in which each company is trying to be as different from the next as possible.)
Only time will tell, but between D3 and MoP, I think it's pretty hard to be a Blizzard fanboy right now.
SC2 is fail in a hand basket. Anyone that is still left playing that game understands the problems associated with it. It's been 2 years since release and there has been very little communication on the numerous issues. The only thing that the game has going for it is the gameplay, which honestly, they kinda screwed that up as well (despite copying almost every unit from SC1).
Diablo3 is not fail, but it is very close. Again, they did to diablo3 what they did to SC2. They got rid of all the 'best' things about the previous games and tried to redue features that never needed revamping. The chat is lackluster, battlenet 2.0 sucks! FIRE THE FUCKING FAGGOT WHO MADE THAT SHIT! JEESUS FUCKING CHRIST!
Anyways, I am starting to see simularities between Blizzard and EA and that is never a good thing. Lack of communication, lack of updates, a need to just release games and ignore them after release. Really dissapointed with Blizzard lately.
lol, I watch and play SC2, it's a very good game, sorry but the game is fine.
guys you have to remember that a game is only as good as the people making it.
those people put a lot of themselves into the games they make.
diablo 3 never had a chance because its heart and soul, james phinney hasnt been with blizzard for years. he was also the lead designer of starcraft.
he left blizzard, went on to lead arenanet as game director and lead designer of the original guild wars.
hes not at arenanet anymore. He's now at undead labs working on a zombie mmo
Oh yes because one guy makes the game, loved D2 hated GW.. try again.
actually, having worked at 3 game companies myself, yes. one guy literally does make a game. especially when the person youre talking about was lead designer (that means his design document is used for the framework of the game for the entire team to reference on a day to day basis), as well as lead producer (the guy that gives the thumbs up, or thumbs down to all things potentially submitted into a game build).
Games i'm playing right now...
"In short, I thought NGE was a very bad idea" - Raph Koster talking about NGE on his blog at raphkoster.com
Aren't most of the original Blizzard devs elsewhere now anyways?
Yup.
Part is in ArenaNet, part is in Runic, part is in Trion, rest scattered around other studios in smaller groups.
Thing is, at this stage, D3 feels overlys treamlined. I understand game industry moved forward and needs to make games more accessible. That's perfectly fine. There is no need to make gamers fight the game before they can enjoy it, but quite often they go step too far.
From level design, to skill progression and removed functions the game simply feels lacking in features. Seem like majority of developement effor went into making it as shiny as possible. The popups for schievements, bonus exp chains, level up, lore unlocks... But not much game underneath all that fluff.
For a hardcore Diablo fan there's no way to pass on this game. You all say play TL2 or Path of something (what's with everybody promoting that game??) but you miss the point. Even if TL2 and Diablo 3 were exactly the same qualitywise I would still play Diablo 3 because it is set in one of my favourite universes. I have played the two games which came before it and I've read all the Diablo books.
The story and lore of a game do matter and I can't get that in TL2. I remember that TL's story was a complete and utter joke.
You should turn your brain off while playing Diablo 3? Well, it's a hack and slash RPG, it's not rocket science. Diablo 1 & 2 were mindless hack & slash, why would you suddenly expect Diablo 3 to be like Baldur's Gate?
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
Hilarious thread to be honest. If D3 was done by arenanet it would be an awesome game, i get it OP.
- The controls of the game are awesome.
-The combat is great and it definitely feels like diablo. I can understand those who never played diablo before, those might be disappointed but it's really just a hack'n'slash game. And each class feels completely different.
- The Skill system is actually BETTER than the tree system from D2, imo. It allows you to test several builds in a fast way and see what you like the most. Besides it allows for a huge number of combinations.
- The questing system is really well done, with the story being presented in a way that does not break the pace of the game. Also did i need to mention that the lore is awesome?!
- The crafting is really cool, it allows you to get some good gear by salvaging items you get from monsters. The artisans can level up and as you get XP for them you unlock new items. In beta we've seen just a little bit of what we're getting on the game and i'm happy with it.
- The loot system... do i really have to to explain? RANDOM ITEMS, hell yes.
- The auction house is a great ideia since it's under blizzard supervison. FYI if an auction house didn't exist there would be people selling items in other websites, some people would got scammed, etc. So yeah i support the ideia and i intend to make a few bucks with it.
- 4 difficulty modes, mobs have different behaviours and skills, loot is completely different for all difficulties. Also hardcore mode... you die once you're gone forever and lose all your items. No your friends can't loot your corpse.
And in the future PvP it's coming. Yep... it's a bad game OP.
The funny thing is... people always say something like this when it comes to blizzard games. They said it with SC2 and bam... the game is played worldwide in tournaments, leagues, etc. They say the same with D3 now, but one month from now noone will give a crap about what BS people say around the internet, millions will be destroying demons, farming loot, selling, buying and having a great time!
And you heard it here first... they will say the same when titan gets announced. Yesterday a leak appeared on the web, some splash damage devs (Enemy territory, brink, etc) got hired to work on titan. If it's true it confirms that the game may have FPS elements like it was rumored years ago. Some people where already saying "OH NO THOSE GUYS SUCK THEY WILL RUIN BLIZZ GAME". No they won't, every company is about culture and people with talent and that is what blizzard oldest devs do, they pass the culture of the company and they teach others.
Some ppl here just tend to burn down everything blizzard related ugh . I think the game is great its not something new but thats what blizzard does do best fine tune and polish . And ppl saying it must be activision that they dont like the game and that they are rushing it are realy looking into things that are not their. If they would just go for fast cash the game would been released ages ago and we would be playing version 5 or so .
The problem is the problem with all acquisitions. Its no longer Blizzard. Haven't they really only released one game under Acitvision Blizzard? Starcraft 2? And by my understanding a lot of complaints about that was it was the exact same game as Starcraft.
Mythic, Blizzard, BioWare were all bought out, and their games released afterwards lacked creativity. Its not a coincidence they were all bought out by enormous corporations. Pretty much, the McDonaldization of the industry(sell tons of crap for cheap).
No!!! thats not the problem. the problem is that The developers of today, arent the same developers of yesterday (in a sense). The great minds may have moved on to other projects.
Diablo is legendary game franchise. Probably one of most popular ones on PC.
Even if the game is not more that decent, diablo 3 would be bought by millions of people.
Blizzard is brimming with money and talent. And I dont doubt huge budgets were invested in this one...
What can go wrong after all ?
I think unbelivable has happened. Blizzard is about to release their first bad game ( i am not counting WOW expansions)
What happened ?
Did all the talents leave Blizzard ?
Its really hard to answer this one...
Honestly, one of the first things I said to my cousin after 30 minutes of playing the beta, was "Blizzard's still got it."
I have loved the beta and can't wait for release. Very impressed so far.
Can't understand all the negativity.

Old time vet with massive, unhealthy amounts of D2 logged. Played WoW for maybe 1.5 years.
My take on the game is that, had it come out when D2 did, it would have been just as good. However, unfortunately, I've been there, and done that. I tried the beta, and it is ok, but honestly, I havent played even an "ok" game in forever. Maybe burnout/maturity, (not so much the latter).
I'll be buying it b/c my friends are, close friends that I have a good time with is really the only reason I play any game other than poker these days (full tilt FTL). But, I could probably play minesweeper with friends and still have a good time.
Lastly, I think D3 suffers from slow movement speed-itis. They made everyone but the DH seem too slow. Buncha' bitter haters here on MMORPG.com, but hell /popcorn FTW, lol.

I do understand the negativity, the people making these threads have lost the touch to spot a quality game. And of course there's always a ton of misinformation coming from people.

they lost their touch ages ago. with the over-simplification and de-skill treeing of their games to the point of making it so dumbed down even a dummy could play their games with their nose, i think it's time blizz just crossed over to consoles and mobile phone games for good and left pc games alone.
If all of you complainers think this game is bad than ur guys are out of touch with gameing. Its no Diablo 2 but by miles better than most current games. I´m pretty sure blizzard gonna break records with easy.
Blizzard as a MMO company talking about WOW has been going down the drain the first generation or developers who worked on the game at first were quite good, but from burning crusade they just didn't know what they were doing making constant changes to the game until Cataclysm which killed it. If you ask me and I am a U.S citizen myself I respect the U.S however the U.S is very uneducated at videogame design which is why most of the actual MMO's that are good like Tera, or Lineage 2 the big hit MMORPG's are not even made in the USA.
Diablo3 for example could be a big hit however what I am hearing about the game Click and move doesn't make me actually want to play the game. I never really played Diablo much at least not that I can remember seems like I might have played it once but it was Diablo 1 and many years ago if I did.
The problem is that I believe the U.S needs to educate more game designers and people who actually know how to create MMO's and games that people want and listen to its customers. Even some game company's in the U.S like Gamers First have been doing a very bad Job at listen to its customers and that is one thing that I feel that if I was in control of such a company I could change and improve a lot customer service and changes that players actually like.
For example Fury Online not sure if it was made in the U.S however this game could have been a great MMORPG still today it could have been like a MOBA however it lacked development or something because I never saw any big changes after buying and playing it and then they went out of business which was pretty sad.
The problem with MMO's today is that most actual MMO's that are designed and come out are not designed in the USA they are either from Korea, or Japan or some other country I have noticed this over the years of playing, and what games are run in the U.S for example are APB, WOW, and Fallen Earth, SWTOR I believe they were designed in the U.S can't be sure but they all fail badly and never can compete with a Korean based MMORPG with customization.
I also have noticed that if I look in any of my common day electronics I see a sticker that says Made in China, not that I am saying any other country is bad or even the USA in any way however I am wondering why I don't see more Made IN USA, or such.
Korean Games like RF Online, and other games I have played can't remember the names right off have a reputation for killing their games and long grind fests such as Lineage 2 it was a great game, but NC Soft at least the U.S hosted version is doing very bad at customer support your account gets ripped off you get absolutely no support.
So if you ask me to answer some questions and opinions about it the U.S needs to get a bit more educated on its game design industry, and management of games/services hosted and run in the U.S that is why I believe such gamers are having a very hard time running and manage of games made in the U.S. I was watching a show on TV not too long ago and it was called STUPID in America talking about DropOuts and the education in the U.S is on big decline therefore explaining a lot of problems in game management since I would say the year of 2005+ I have noticed the decline in gaming industry big times not just MMO's but games coming to market today games that I beleive in my opinion would have done great having a Part 2 but canceled for some reason.
Oh yes the one downside to Korean MMO titles is the fact you have to pay Money to customize or change your characters quite often or Skills I believe they are the first ones to start Micro Transactions, and one reason I don't play games like Forsaken World, or PWI/Nexon Games such as vindictus.
I don't mean to show my disrespects to the U.S or other cuntries but this is just the way I see things, I don't know maybe it is because of the Economy being bad right now.
I think it largely depends on how many millions buy the game.
If 3 million, no. If a mere 1 million, then maybe. If 3 million+, you are completely horrible for asking the question.
I'm not sure how clueless you really are -- but the question has nothing to do with SALES. More about their ability to still make great games. try to understand that for a second or two.

if you think this would be Blizzards first bad game, then you never played StarCraft II.
Yeah, I didn't really dig SC2, and I loved and still played SC1....I dislike the getting rid of the lan play, the online gave me troubles playing with my wife, she would get wierd lag playing online with me, where we should of been able to play lan and have no problems....Could of been a early problem, but it was just irritating, and I wasn't to crazy about a lot of the design...
WoW just got worse and worse, and Diablo 3 is a big heap of crap compared to Diablo 2, which saddens me. Hopefully Blizzard will realize this before making any other games.

I don't mean to show my disrespects to the U.S or other cuntries but this is just the way I see things, I don't know maybe it is because of the Economy being bad right now.
if you think this would be Blizzards first bad game, then you never played StarCraft II.
I'm not sure how clueless you really are -- but the question has nothing to do with SALES. More about their ability to still make great games. try to understand that for a second or two.
I didn't hate it, but it was a disappointment.
WoW just got worse and worse, and Diablo 3 is a big heap of crap compared to Diablo 2, which saddens me. Hopefully Blizzard will realize this before making any other games.
