I disagree with everyone who is saying its just a tutorial. The main reason diablo 3 is a big dissapointment to alot of people is because 1. No skill tree's, 2. No trait selection and 3. No customization. Your not going to find skill tree's traits or customization even after the open beta.
I didn't like the hand-holding the new trait system seemed to shove down my throat, then I got to remembering running on my old characters. There were only a few builds which were either end game possible, or pvp capable. What we lost was the ilusion of choice ... I still miss it, but I understand this new system offers more choice IF all the skills/runes are viable.
I think perhaps the reason I enjoyed the beta so much is I didn't follow the game at all. No hype ... no disappointments. Which is why I am trying to avoid the Gw2 forums and information.
I've seen this argument before about many games. Gamers often think that time duration and money determines the quality.
Games go through iteration, design changes. Diablo 3 was basically restarted from scratch. Who knows how long they spent on the current design? They might have scrapped many or several game systems you have never even seen or heard about. Who knows how much effort it has taken to get the randomization technology going in 3D? Maybe not much, but maybe a lot. Main case, is that we don't know.
I think the pacing is great. The game is incredible solid. The combat is viceral. Why does other games not have such good pacing? This game is instantly gratifying. No dumb tutorials. And an outragous amount of drops. I have lots of reservations though. The story was beyond ugh... Skeleton King? The writing and voice acting is horrible. It's overly clicheed.
But so what - the combat is really fun. the enemies are really varried. More varied than in many MMOs. I love the exploding big guys with snakes in them. a big mob turns into an AOE bomb turns into a bunch of smaller mobs. all in one mobs. Most MMOs Mobs dont have that many facets. Then you have the randomization.
I've been playing this all day listening to podcasts and music. I find playing this game stimulating. relaxing. I can play it with one hand. I ate dinner with the other. It's not Skyrim. It's not some immersive all absorbing im-in-this-world-game. But so what!? It's an isometric hack and slash. this game is fun.
Lets hope the campaign is very long. I really liked the Templar companion. I wish he was his own class.
I wonder why those called "fans" complain about the game not leting you customice your character wen in D2 everybody was using the same pvp/pve builds posted in the webs, because if you didnt use them, well, you couldnt play.
I like this new skill sistem because it tries to make every skill functional, much like GW1 did.
I may be kicking a dead horse here, but the one thing that REALLY annoyed me in D3 was when I felt like playing solo... but still had to wait in a server queue.
@ OP - What did you do in 2hours? As if you actually wondered around everywhere like i did it wouldnt have been very much so dont understand you quote of "2hrs then its over". I assume thats the same as saying "Skyrim: All finished in 10hours". Yes you could do that if you want but you dont. Dont understand this need to hate games - just say "Played the demo/beta wasnt for me"
I played the demo and thought - brilliant, this is what i want.......Diablo 2 with better graphics. Really liked the combat system with lots of variations for your character and looks like you can build on your play style.
Of course there is no innovation. No huge titles by famous companies add any huge changes to their game. Anything really new about SW:TOR? No. GW2? Nah. Aion? Nope. SC2? Nope. What do you expect? If you want innovation, turn to indie games. They're the breeding pool of new ideas.
The larger companies simply check what is curerntly desired and give people just that. And most people want a D3 that is very close to D2.
I'm really humored by how people think the demo's a tutorial. Heh. It's actually not a tutorial .
...but with all the tips, linear paths, and inability to continue pass points without starting or finishing a quest first whodathunk it's not a tutorial? xD
Why Diablo 3 is attempting to look like Diablo2 I unno... shoulda made something like god of war but in the diablo universe + online multiplayer + all the loot whoring and what not. That'd be cool c:. By "like god of war" i mean like your modern kinda action rpg.

You know, it's kind of funny you mention that, because in some ways the game does feel like a stripped down God of War (but isometric). However, without all the badass cutscenes & finisher sequences, it's just not that cool.
Ya don't worry though, it should be fun... ROFL. If you were a true d2 player, you know this game is a joke, and the only reason people will buy is because of its name.
I disagree with everyone who is saying its just a tutorial. The main reason diablo 3 is a big dissapointment to alot of people is because 1. No skill tree's, 2. No trait selection and 3. No customization. Your not going to find skill tree's traits or customization even after the open beta.
The customization is which skills you select to use. As I said in another thread the wizard has 25 skills with 5 runes each that change the skill. That's 125 skills total. With 6 slots to use those skills its something like 4,690,625,500 combinations. That isn't even including the 3 passive slots and 15 passive skills giving 455 combinations.
There is plenty of customization, people just don't like that it isn't a skill tree or stat point. I mean seriously did these people play the same Diablo 2 that I did? There was not nearly as much variety in builds as people try to make it out as. Sure you had a skill tree and 110 points...but it cost you 20 points to make most skills good, that's 5 good skills and a bunch of not very useful ones. Skill trees actually limit the number of builds because you need to take certain skills to get to others.

You just proved my point. A handful of builds per class and you're saying that D2 had superior customization. Go use the D3 character builder and you can make dozens of builds per class. Clearly it is you that doesn't understand how the two compare. Also there will be PvP in D3, it just isn't going to be in for launch. PvP wasn't the selling point either and it sure as heck wasn't very good in D2. I think you've got rose colored glasses or a bad case of hating change regardless if it's good or bad.
People need to stop telling us that this was just a tutorial and just a widdle beta.
This is what we were shown and this is what we will fracking go on. This is the demo we were given to decide if we wanted to buy and it was a bad demo. The End.

How was it bad? i played it with every class and was quite fun so please explain me how this is a bad game without refering to the D2 or D1 because that would be a biased opinion.

Why would any of us not talk about D1 or D2 when discussing D3. Those games are part of the series and the experience people had in them does factor into this game as well.

Because ALL the people who say the game is bad its because its not like D2 or D1, thats not a valid reason, its like saying warcraft 3 is a bad game because its not like warcraft 1.
Games change and evolve over time if people wanted to play the same thing over and over we would still be playing pong, it doesnt matter if the game is or not like its predecesors, what matters is whether the game is fun or not.

Or you could actually research the game a bit more and learn. You have more to go on than just the beta.. the demo is the starter edition, make your informed judgement then. Its free.
I have researched it and experienced what I was given. My decision is made. There are countless threads on this board that go into great detail as to why the game does not live up to the hype or development time that it has endured. This is an MMO board first and foremost and to put it blunt and short.. Most people are looking for feature rich and relatively complex game.
With the time that has passed between installments I find this title to be less innovative than the two that came before it. I also find it less innovative when compared to similar games that have already came down the pipe or are about to be released.

I cant really tell having played only 2 hours, the only thing that comes to my mind is the new skill sistem wich makes all skills usefull and opens a way to a lot of builds.
Yes i know D2 had a "deeper" sistem with a lot of choices but in the end everybody used the same 3 or 4 builds and skills like the first necromancer skill (that blue fliying balls) got forever forgotten.
The point is that judgin a game for what you expected it to be rather than for what it really is, is kind of absurd.

Dialo 3 is in a class different from mmo's. The beta this weekend was just a brief preview of the game.
I enjoyed it and look forward to playing the game, just as I'm going to look forward to playing GW2.
Two completely different games, both will be enjoyable to play
