Legend of Korra MMOPRG

I've been extremely into The Legend of Korra recently, and I started thinking.... How cool would it be if they came out with an MMORPG of the show?

Think about it! Exploring a bending world, being able to be any type of bender, learn the skills it takes to be a master bender, and whatnot! I don't know about you guys but I would love that.

I too am a fan of the Avatar:Last Airbender / Legend of Korra series.  I really did LOL at the site of Pagoda style "Sato-Mobiles".  And I cried when I realized Katara was the last original character left.  I am impressed with the art style, and the realism of the animation.  The sophistication of the dialog and the stories.  It is truly a quality product.

The Steampunk setting of LoK would be cool.  As always with character driven IP, I would be worried every one would want to be the Avatar.  An MMO based in the Last Airbender Universe would suffer the same expectations as SWG  that benders should be limited and people should be forced to play non-bender classes first.  What I would suggest is tying unlocking of the bender class to that of a non-bender class.  So to unlock a bender class you must level a non-bender class of the same nation to 50% or 60% of max level.  And the max level of the bender class will be set by the max level of the non-bender class.  SO if you stop leveling your non-bender class at 62%, that becomes the level cap of your bender.

I would like to see crafting because there are so many costumes and gear sets seen in the series.  But I would be worried if Stats were tied to items, it would hamper the dress-up that is part of the series.  I think I would go with Stat-less gear, that has slots for stat token insertion and removal, sorta like pockets.  Each item would have a min and max number of slots available.  Better yet Stat tokens aren't tied to gear.  The character sheet has a tab for appearance from gear, and one for Stats from tokens.  So that appearance can be changed without worrying about stats.

Anyways, lets hope there is some effort to make a quality Last Airbender Universe MMO.

The dreams of being an awesome Elementalbender will be crushed by the fact that it will be built more like WoW rather than it's own thing.

    This is not a game.

Isn't this just a cartoon for teens? I downloaded the first episode to see what all the hoopla was about and I didn't see anything there aimed at adults.

Were The Adventures of Tom Sawyer or Lord of the Flies only for teens?  The Last Airbender series may have been intended for a teen audience, but adults can appreciate the quality of the story and animation.

I take it from the hints in here that the book (or whatever) was better than the lamentable film?

I still haven't seen the film, but that is not because I don't want to.  The Avatar : Last Airbender is based on a cartoon.  They just reran the entire series Two weeks ago.  And have started a second series The Legend of Korra.

I'm interested in how classes would work. As we've seen, non-benders can be incredibly potent fighters. From the Kyoshi Warriors and their fan/weapon thingies, to Ty Lee and her chi-blocking ability (also seen with Amon's henchmen). The latter could even be a sort of resource or energy denial class.

And they could have branching ability trees maybe, too. Earthbenders can either get stronger earth bending, metal, or sandbending.

Firebender's - Lightning or stronger firebending via Sunwarriors or something...

Waterbender's could get bloodbending as CC skills or, like... sweatbending... image lol

Chi Blocker's could even learn some mild forms of energy bending.

And-- oh god, the potential for animal companions would be crazy.

The film is detestable in comparison to the actual series.  The series of Avatar: The Last Airbender, was amazing,  every season was as good as the last which isn't common.

The film missed the mark on so many parts of the series,  they kept the names of the characters but purposely mispronounced them...  ?  What is up with that?  Bending didn't work the same either,  and the flim was just terrible overall.

Welcome back MMOExposed, glad to see you got your account reinstated.  I understand that Rift does have somewhat elemental rifts.  But it is not even similar to Avatar : The Last Airbender's universe.

I haven't seen the movie yet.  But the mispronunciation you are referring to is actually proper asian pronunciation of the names.  Like Ang is supposed to be said as Ahn ( On ).  Well that is what I was told.

To those who don't want to read this whole thread, here is a breakdown:

You start to play, you chose your name, nation (Air, Water, Earth, Fire [That's the actual Avatar Cycle.] ), and your other stuff.

Then you enter the game, starting at Republic City, and start to level up your non-bender character. At 50% / 60% level, you are allowed to turn into a bender of either fire, earth, water, or air, depending on your nation.

There are skill slots for skill tokens in clothes. The # of slots depends on the clothing. Skill tokens enhance your clothing to boost your stats if you have skill tokens in.

    Now, for my ideas:

There could be encounters with the Equalists inside the city. You will have to fight or run away. If you win the fight, you get loot. If you get chi-blocked mid battle, a timer will appear and while the timer is active, you will not be able to use bending of any kind untill the timer runs out. If you are perminatly chi-blocked, you die, but that only efects benders. If you die, you respawn in either your house or the town square. The Equilists will only attack benders.

For both non-benders and benders, the street gangs will be attacking you. Same deal, fight or flight. These guys can't chi-block but they have more members than the Equalists. Gang wars could also take place and the players, ALL players, can try to support a gang or try to end the fight.

And finally, there can be the Pro Bending Tournament for benders. You can start your own three player team or join an existing team. Same rules as in the tournament from the show.

That's all my ideas.image Don't flag me for spam, I just have a lot of ideas.

Only thing is people are born as benders, so it wouldn't really make since if you level up someone as a non bender to turn them into a bender.

Given the premise is martial arts, this would be a hard game to pull off without some sort of awesome martial arts physics-based combat system.  If any of you think this is a plausible thing, let me know, cause then this MMO idea would be serious talk.

My blog is a continuing story of what MMO's should be like.

not entirely accurate - you are born a bender - but have to learn how to bend (in a agme = lvling...)

    Just my 2 cents...

That'd be awesome. It'd be cool if firebenders could progress to lightningbending, earthbenders to metalbending, waterbenders to bloodbending, etc. And then you could have combos, like in GW2, for example: firebending + earthbending = lavabending, which normally just the avatar could accomplish. You could also have non-bending characters, focusing on chi blocking and anti-bender weapon mastery.

I suspect this is not so.  The Equilists are the new enemy of the Avatar, equal to the Fire Lord Ozai or Long Feng (Master of the Dai Li).  They plan to remove all benders, then attack non-benders next.  Because Avatar Aang took Fire Lord Ozai's Firebending away from him, I suspect that Amon is his descendant threw Princess Azula.  Since Chi Blocking was Ty Lee's thing Amon may also be related to her or simply learned from her as a child.  I don't think Amon can remove bending like the Avatar can.  He can only block it for a while.

Actually all we see is Amon remove the power of two or three individuals during the Equalist assembly called The Revelation that lasts for minutes, maybe an hour.  If in episode 4, we see those same people without bending for days, weeks, and months then we are more certain that he can remove bending at least for the time observed in the series.  My point was that "Chi blocking" is a temporary paralysis, that maybe the writers will apply to bending powers in a later reveal.  So we learn that Amon's "Power" over bending is just an illusion.

We could learn that his power is real, and Amon has a power that takes the link of the Avatar to the Spirit realm to learn, and the Raw Power of the Avatar to wield, as seen in the final episode of the original series.

And that may be the next clue.  In order to learn to use a power of a Avatar, Amon may be the true Avatar.  Korra has only mastered three of the four basic bendings.  And has not established a link or rapport to the Spirit Realm.  She may be a exceptional bender capable of learning two additional classes of bending, something unheard of.  But is unable to master the remain two traits of the avatar, because she is not the Avatar.

I admit this is only speculation, and therefore only written on the clouds.  The writers may looks at such posts and say, well this is what we won't do.  I go by the Avatar Wiki for all my Avatar info.
