NDA & Youtube videos, how does that work?

upper2bitsupper2bits Member Posts: 13

So it's still under the NDA right now right? Does that mean all of the videos on youtube are in violation? Their lifting it come this weekend so I'm guessing we'll see an influx of videos and reviews which will hopefully allow me to make up my mind.

All of the videos I've seen are from members of the press, who were allowed to divulge some or all of their experiences. They aren't bound by an NDA the same way we are.

WoodenPotatoes and TotalBiscuit offer decent beta videos if you want relatively fair depictions from what I can tell. PCGamer did a couple good ones recently as well.

If they're all press then it's hard to judge, the game looks amazong but my wallet is still in shock from Vanguard and Warhammer so I might wait this one out to see if it's worth my cash. :-)

ArenaNet decided that they were close enough to completion of GW2 that they were willing to let press test drive their game and give their impression of what they saw. Because the game is not complete, certain parts of the game were not ready for review. The NDA that the press is under forbids them from talking about parts of the game that ArenaNet felt were not finished and should not be reviewed in their unfinished state. These videos do not violate the NDA.

Other testers were under a more restrictive NDA, most likely to allow press a chance to release information first and also to prevent people from bashing the parts of the game that are not finished for being unfinished. It is still in beta after all.

This coming weekend, hundreds of thousands of people will have access to the still incomplete game but will not be under any kind of NDA. Everyone will be able to talk about what they encounter, including the unfinished parts.

No, it's not under NDA anymore.

The only other beta (afaik) that has an NDA would be the press beta, which had a specific exemption to when they lifted the NDA (basically stating you can't talk about the cash shop, until we release the information to the public).

So, as for this BWE. Post whatever the F@*K you want!

Not quite true. All beta phases up to present are still under NDA. That means you cannot divulge your experiences in those specific phases. Now, should you participate this weekend, this weekend is NOT under NDA< and that experience can be shared.

The BWE (what's happening this weekend) is NOT under NDA.

    The press beta IS.

Unless you're part of Anet's staff, there are no other betas going on right now.

EDIT: For further clarification, various members of the press beta have came out and stated that the NDA is lifted for them currently, but their certain exemptions which they cannot talk about (ie the cash shop). However, that doesn't mean they can't talk about other aspects of the game, and there are tons of videos which illustrate this already.

This is the message from the new launcher,

"We've excited that you're joining us for our first ever Beta Weekend Event.  As this is no longer a "closed" beta, you're not bound by a Non-Disclosure Agreement, so feel free to talk about your Guild Wars 2 experience with your friends, family, and total strangers.  We'll see you in-game!"

That's why I think I'll wait...when actual users get their hands on it a lot of questions might get raised. It's very tempting to pre-purchase to get in but at the same time I don't want to get burned again.

As long as there is any portion they aren't allowed to talk about, There's still an NDA. Call it what you will /shrug.

And yes for the record I understand what you mean, jsut saying, no one is the stress test last week, or any non-press players, can open up about their experiences. UNless I msised an annoucement.. And frankly I'd be more interested in what they have to say than the press. Too much of the gaming media are about selling the product; not enough about telling me if it's a product I actually might want.

I'm also assuming that they're pretty confident in the game if they're letting everyone test and report on it.

That seems resaonable. There is no reason for anyone to pre-purchase unless they want guaranteed beta access. There's no rush to order. They won't sell out. It's smart to take your time and decide whether or not the game is right for you.

I understand, $60 can be a huge investment to some people! If you have a younger sibling you can get a kidney in their sleep. It is justifiable for this game.

edit: I have to say this is a joke. I have learned this community is somewhat disturbed and I don't want to be part of an organ harvesting crime. ;(

Just wait until monday, then. The BWE that starts this friday will be NDA free, so we'll most likely be flooded by gameplay videos and impressions by then (not to mention that most likely 50% of the posts here will be about GW2, either on the "it rules" or "it sucks" categories).
