Will I like this game?

brandonbvisibrandonbvisi Member Posts: 5

Hi all,

I've been an MMORPG player since EQ.  But I'm finding alot of newer MMO's fairly uninteresting.  I'm currently subscribed to Rift, but I can't say its my favorite game.

I liked games like Everquest, Asheron's Call, Vanguard, but hated World of Warcraft (burning crusade era), and Age of Conan.

So the question being, is this a game for me?

1) I don't like instances much.  I prefer running through dungeons and seeing other players.

2) I like death penalties and corpse runs as it adds to the danger and is more exciting to me while playing.

3) I like a good first person view looking out of my characters eyeballs.  Does this game support first person view?

4) I like games which support cooperation between players rather than "If I don't get anything out of it, I'm outta here."

    1) There are open dungeons but the seriouss loots is in the istances.

    2) Death penality on tera is minimal, at least till you are high level, every time you die you risk to broke a crystal nothing more, at high levels cystals can be quite expensive tho.

    3) Yes there is a FPS view but is only for screenshot purpose, you can play with it but you'll be without UI.

    4) That's is up to the community i fear.

Son in the end i doubt it's the game for you, but you could try to find a buddy key and give it a try anyway.

Sounds like you should go back to EQ.

Instanced dungeons are the norm any more. Its been found that most people dont like to compete with others for bosses, etc. EQ would do you nicely tho. You can run thru lower Guk or just stand at the entrance and yell.."camp check please"

EQ would also do you well for corpse runs. I particularly enjoyed the ones after you disconnected when you had no idea where it was or try to get enough people together to retrieve your corpse from plane of hate.

as far as 1st person view, i couldnt say...i've only ever used that view in shooters

and lastly, co op play in any MMO is what you make it. Its definately in Tera, but then again, i've never played any MMO that didnt have it.

As much as I praise this game I don't think it is for you.

    1. Most dungeons are instanced, however the open world dungeons and BAMs(essentially boss monsters roaming around the world that take a group to kill).

    2. There isn't a bad death penalty in reality...nothing like EQ1 where you could possibly lose your gear if you couldn't make it back to your corpse.

    3. Like Kehdar said, first person isn't viable at all as a play style.

    4. I feel like a lot of cooperation between players is necessary though. You have to cooperate to down most BAMs (dont get me wrong some are solo-able). From experience open world PVP(not sure if you cared for that or not) is group based. Not to mention end game instances are all group oriented. I feel like with every class having individual weapons and the armor being broken into 3 tiers with 2-3 classes in each 5 players per party that gear wont be a crying issue. Probably have either 1 Heavy Armor 2 Light 2 Cloth, 2 Heavy 1 Light 2 Cloth, 1 Heavy 4 Leather 1 Cloth so on so on, and most parties I've been in only have 1 of a class not two.

Try it maybe with the head start buddy code? I gave my 3 away but i know there has to be a few left.

As stated before dungeon are instance based, it is the norm now because we have much more casual player playing mmorpgs so you can't have all loot that requires you to you know camp them for months because most of them don't have the time. There are good amount of open world dungeon and world monsters. And if you play on PvP server you been fighting over lot of those world monster because they do drop much need crystals.

    2) I like death penalties and corpse runs as it adds to the danger and is more exciting to me while playing.

Again many games now days won't have that due to increase of casual gamers. Most people aren't going to enjoy a harsh penty. That said if you die in Tera you have chance to loss a crystal which does cost a lot of money later on. Thats if you die to a monster or die while flagged in pvp server. Getting killed in GvG or been pked, you will only stamia and be sent back to down.

    3) I like a good first person view looking out of my characters eyeballs.  Does this game support first person view?

its more for screenshots and videos. When you press Ctrl+z you turn off teh UI, than again you go to first person w/o the UI. So its not really playable in that state.

    4) I like games which support cooperation between players rather than "If I don't get anything out of it, I'm outta here."

A lot because later dungeons are extremely challenging and require team work. Also BAM can be solo but much faster in parties. And honestly its the people you meet, so far i haven't meet any one that said that but these people are always out there.

From what look of it idk if the game is for you. Feel like your looking for something hardcore of the older games (like full loot, heavy group content, etc) which is very hard to find now days but idk if you want to give it a try i have buddy key for head start if you want to give it a shoot. Also if  you do try it, definnatly play PvP server  Baslikas Craigs =P

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

Someone was kind enough to PM a buddy key, so I'll just give it a shot this weekend and see if its my cup of tea or not.

I think that everyone who tries this game could easily fall in love with it. Based upon the games you said you liked, I would say you would like this game a lot. The only thing that may come as a shock to you, is the combat. The combat is intense and bests all other MMOs out there, but it is easy to adapt to. Tera is a great game, i'd definitely reccomend you try it.
