Personally I have prepurchased and is very excited for tomorrow's BWE.
With all the talks of HYPE, i find that its best to prepare those that only found this game recently and didn't do any sort of research from getting disappointed when they experience it.
1) Dynamic Events : Don't expect the chain to be different forever, even with 1 thousand variety you will see it all eventually.
2) There will not be a Healer, Tank roles, but there will still be people who mainly becomes a support role and those that goes in and heavy trying to tank and die, because for many its their first time playing, give them time to learn the new mechanics.
3) There are heart quests : You will talk with an NPC and there will be text. Don't be surprised to see text
4) Dodge is your friend : Don't expect to dodge continuously, there is a stamina bar
IF anyone else have other thing they would like to add, please do
Life is a Maze, so make sure you bring your GPS incase you get lost in it.

3) You do not need to talk to any NPCs to do the heart quests.. but you can if you want to, its completely optional. They work the same as dynamic events, except they are always there and you can only complete them once.
5) Don't expect a seamless world or huge zones. Running time from one portal to the next is probably 5-10min at most.
6) Most PvE will feel like easy-mode button mashing for experienced players.
7) Structured PvP will be imbalanced and lack basic competitive features like proper matchmaking
8) Low FPS and lag issues

I always recommend people try and lower their expectations as low as possible before logging in for the first time.
Safer.
Then again, I suck at following my own advice!
I really hope my PC can smoke this game, cause man I have put a lot of money and time into it!
Real positive post thanks for taking the time to drop in ....if even one statement from 5-8 was correct you at least would be trying
btw how many GB RAM are needed to get good performance?
Hype train -> Reality
This is killing my buzz.
I thought that dodging was necessary in PvE or you got destroyed. So it's mostly easy mode now? Please tell me it's not true. Or is the hard PvE content saved for story mode dungeons?
Good to know the game likes cpu more than gpu powah.
Meh, I'd say the only one he got wrong is 6). If you stand around and do rotations the way you do in other mmos you will get owned in PvE.
My theme song.
Everything here is a lie.

the zones are huge but travelling is made fast with teleports.
On the contrary, expect to die fairly often. There's a new mechanic to learn, and basically if you try and play like you're playing WoW you'll spend a lot of time learning the four downed skills. However, once you get the hang of it it's much better. Of course, multiple mobs will still drop you, so don't expect easy mode, at all.
They even stated a bit back that they've increased the difficulty in the game as well. Should be interesting.

You have to have visited a waypoint to unlock it to be able to teleport to it first though. So you have to walk the distance at least once, and the mobs would prefer you didn't.

don't listen to vowofsilence he is spreading misinformation. dodging is necessary if you dont move around in pve you will die fast.
Thank god. Gamers want challenge! One of the features I pre-purchased for was that cool looking dodge. It should be useful and necessary.
No matter how positive your experience, if you should return to the forums, be prepared to be greeted by all manner posters who will be making statements that are clearly not based in fact. Do not be surprised to see people claiming that they pre-purchased GW2 and that they played for 5 minutes and it was so bad their spleen exploded.
These people may be 1) bitter players who had a bad experience in a prior MMO and feel like this will translate directly to GW2; 2) people scared that GW2 will deliver on its promises and take players away from a game that they are currently playing; 3) people who believe that if you don't like what they like then there is something wrong with you; 4) bored, sad individuals who derive pleasure from seeing other people unhappy; 5) folks who are just plain angry or 6) some combination of all of these.
See you in WvWvW!

I don't think so actually.
I think dodge is important. Think about it, why not just let you dodge forever (remove the stamina bar) had it been unimportant? Only allowing you dodge a few times, is probably put in place to make it strategically important, just like the long CD on powerful spells. A big part of the game is popping the elite at the right time. I wonder if they took that philosophy from DOTA balancing. In that game you also have to pop the critical abillities at exactly the right time. Too late or too fast, it's over.
Guild Wars 1 also heavily relied on CPU power over GPU power. The game does not support SLI/Crossfire yet.
Whoa whoa wait... the game have areas like AoC and EQ? I dont have issue with that but most of my friends wouldnt like this...

No, it's not true at all. You get loading screen when "fast travel" from one waypoint to the next. You get a loading screen when you enter your "personal story". You get a loading screen when you enter an dungeon. You get a loading screen when you enter or leave a city. You get a loading screen when you travel from one zone to the next. Loading screens are generally 5-10 seconds. Zones feel extremely large and packed with events and renown hearts and skill points and explorable areas. The loading screens are annoying but ultimately prove to be a minor inconvenience. This issue has been debated extensively over the past several weeks. You will have to determine for yourself how bothersome it is.

sooo basically anyone who has anything bad to say about GW2 is automatically wrong. Thanks! Good to know, that's not biased at all.
Oh well... as long as i dont feel like i am separated from other zone and dont feel like im in a 'mountain cage' ill be fine with loading screens i guess. Hardly an annoyance
