So Your Account Is Prepared... Or Not - It's Your Fault Says ArenaNet

KaiyeKaiye Member UncommonPosts: 31

So, I - like several other players currently trying to get into the Weekend Beta Event for Guild Wars 2 - have been getting this error labled, 9:4:5:1093:101.  The error basicly states that although your account is prepared for the beta event, you're not currently able to participate in one because, according to the error, there isn't one going right now.  Obviously, this isn't true.

So what gives?

I asked myself the same thing as well as numerous players over at the offical forums - well, when they're actually up and running due to the player-overload that is trying to access them.

On a brighter note, a customer over at the offical forums actually recieved a message from the ArenaNet staff and I figured I'd post it here.  Take a gander:

Hello,

Just to be clear, pre-order is not the same as pre-purchase. If you paid in full (pre-purchased) before April 10th, then you should get back in touch with your retailer so they can get you a Serial Code. That code is what grants all the benefits of an official Guild Wars 2 pre-purchase. If you only paid a small amount (pre-ordered) to reserve a copy when the game comes out, then you will definitely not receive the pre-purchase benefits unless you talk to your retailer about upgrading to an official pre-purchase. Only the authorized retailer from whom you placed your order can give you a pre-purchase serial code.

More info on pre-purchase can be found here: http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/game-faq/#pre-purchase

Thanks,

Nick

Well, that being said - ArenaNet is saying that it's our fault (as a customer) that we pre-ordered the game versus pre-purchasing the game.  Oddly enough, I - along with countless other customers - purchased my pre-order from Gamestop and wasn't told that there was a difference between access codes recieved in either a pre-order or pre-purchase, regardless - this may be an issue with Gamestop communcation so I won't complain so much on that end about ArenaNet.

So what's the problem then?  Well, ArenaNet is still inviting players to come and participate in the event by e-mail as was advertised by the pre-order.  So, players getting the invite, download the client, and attempt to login to get this problem.  ArenaNet, obviously realizing that they had a problem, noted that they planned to fix the issue but it would take a little bit - this was several hours ago.

On any case, reflecting back to the message from "Nick" of the Guild Wars support team, It's all but apparent that the company is saying it's a problem for YOU (the customer) that there was a break-down in commucation and that they arn't responsible.  I don't know about anyone else, but I had actually participated in the last weekend beta event for Tera and had pre-ordered it with all intentions on playing that as my primary MMORPG but not without giving Guild Wars 2 the opperunity to impress me with this weekend's event.  Now with Tera's head-start beginning tomorrow, my Guild Wars 2 pre-order will be cancelled and I won't even bother attempting a second shot at it just because of this cluster-f*ck.

Sorry, normally I'm not vocal about these things but I know numerous other players have been having this same problem and with the Guild Wars 2 staff saying it was a customer issue and not a staff issue dispite what is posted, I've never been more disrespected as a customer.  I wish everyone who intends on staying with ArenaNet the best of luck, but to the others who were put through the same sh*t - I'd just urge you to speak with your wallet and walk away from this company.

The way this has been handled is utterly, disgusting.

Pre-order is not organised by Anet, its by the retailers. They do not take responsibility of the actions of their retailers. Pre-purchase program is by Anet.  note the difference

It was made ABUNDANTLY clear by ANet that only pre-purchasing would guarentee access to beta.

It is your own damn fault.

ANET has ZERO to do with pre orders. They have only ever said PRE PURCHASE. If you were misled by whatever retailers you went to ((if it's gamestop, well, you should know better)), that is not anet's fault.

It is nice to know people care so much about this game, in any case, else there wouldn't be so much rage over what...5-10 dollars for a pre order? lol

So you expect to be given beta access even though you did not pay up front for the pre-purchase like all the others who did? It was your own fault you did not google for the difference between prepurchase and preorder. Hell, if some people could ask on Guru and other forums, why are you whining here about YOUR inability to search for information on the internet?

Not going to argue as you can't win in a online forum - this was posted for players who are going through this same situtation.

On any case, if I was to agree with you, I would note that there should never have been an e-mail that was sent out assuring Weekend Beta Event access for this weekend.  Again, argue all you want but ArenaNet is not without fault on this - plain and simple.

Just for people who were inquiring - this is the e-mail that was recieved by numerous players...

So your saying you have an email thanking you for your purchase, and giving you a code/key for the game?

No? It's just the regular one sent out to everyone telling them to PREPURCHASE the game?

    The Deep Web is sca-ry.

  • KaiyeKaiye Member UncommonPosts: 31

Because, I like others on MMORPG.com, didn't have any information in regards to the error code listed above.  Although I am ranting in the first post, it gives additional information as to the error code and what is to believed to be the cause - according to ArenaNet.

No? It's just the regular one sent out to everyone telling them to PREPURCHASE the game?" - Toxia

    Please read above.

Lol I know this is going to upset a lot of you fanboy's and girl's but damn it is Anets fault, especially if they sent out a key which it seems to be likely what the OP is talking about and it just turns out the its not a beta key so ya its ANET's Fault for not clarifying with the email.

I pre purchased paid in full for GW2 at gamestop today. I get home and after experiencing a problem due to an email being sent in german, I managed to download the client... I come home from work a half hour ago looking forward to log in and receive an awesome message stating that my account is fine (((but no beta event is running at this time)))) :(

So, looks like the wonderful employees at gamestop somehow mistakenly gave me the pre order code and not the pre purchase code.. Hopefully there won't be any confusion when i go there tomorrow to explain this to them because I won't leave there without the right god darn code!

Guess it's a good thing I cant play because it gives me an excuse to actually sleep tonight... Cuz once I start playing, I won't stop until I have to work on monday afternoon. :p

I wouldn't be mad at Arenanet,  but more so at Gamestop.

Its not the first time they've fumbled the ball with preorder/prepurchase things.  I'm quietly and patiently awaiting thier demise and eventual death in the retail universe.

I'd say go to the Gamestop to try to clear things up.   ....though I have a sneaking suspicion they'll just look at you and shrug thier shoulders,  saying theres nothing they can do on thier side to fix things.

"Serial codes?  Who?  Whats a Guild War?"   ..and you'll see that the actual Guild Wars 2 stand you picked up your game from was actually a crayon-colored posterboard with pictures from God of War 2 all over it.

They'll deny everything,  throw a bit of sand in your eyes,  then toss a smokebomb before diving out of the building.

This is the 'customer service' to expect from Gamestop.

Wau! Now it looks that Bioware was to fair, they let everyone with preorder to play tor, what i think was big mistake. Now are some of people deffending greedy ANet like Texans Alamo but i believe that worst things will  start to come one by one. If that was made by EA or Bioware all of this comunity would spit and cry all day long  but now is ok to do things like that. Leason  number one-never ever preorder or prepurchase games. Wait for reviews and let  this people beg you to come and play

    +1

People need to learn to read up on what they are buying, not blaming someone else when it was posted weeks ago that this was the case.

The only one to blame is you. Sorry your $5 transferable gamestop preorder did not live up to expectations.

  • KaiyeKaiye Member UncommonPosts: 31
Sorry you feel that way, as others have said, it doesn't excuse the email or the lack of response. Defend them as you wish but there is clearly an error on their end and the response is lackluster.

And I don't believe the statement abundantly clear is appropriate - the term pre order is generally understood as pre purchasing and vice versa, granted its not in this case but enough of the customer base understood it as so judging by the number of people going through this error. Regardless, the email should have never been dispatched if they had no intentions on pre orders not playing. Plain and simple.

Pay attention to what you read and do some research next time and you won't have to go thru this kind of confusion! They clearly announced on their site that if you want garanteed beta access then you must PRE-PURCHASE the game!

Pre-purchased = you buy the game in full in advance

Pre-order= you give the retailer small fee so that they will hold the copy of a game for you when it is released and you will still have to pay full price for the game when you pick it up. BIG difference!

If you were confused because you obviously did  not do enough reading and pre-ordered instead of prepurchase then YES it is your own fault!

Gamestop employees failed to provide you correct information then take it to them not Arenanet.

I prepurchased the game and I enter this weekend's beta without a problem!

Thanks Arenanet good job on the game! Loving it.

OP just stick to your comment earlier and don't argue with them.  As far as most people here are concerned.  Anet is GOD, and GW2 is the 2nd coming of Jesus. If I hadn't given my BWE account to a friend, I'd given it to you, just so you can try the game for yourself.  Personally I'm not a fan of Pre-purchasing.

    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Again, the pre order/pre purchase issue is aggravating but the real issue for players is the email invitation. It amazes me how people rush to the defense of ArenaNet but won't acknowledge that they are just as much at fault in this due to their email.

Roin, I appreciate the thought. I honestly did post this so that others with this error would have an idea of what was going on, yes there was a rant to it but rightfully so. On any case, stern defenders can argue the pre purchase vs pre order arguement all they like but regardless players should have never recieved the email invitation without some type of clarification afterwards be it via email or official post.

Sure, they should have sent out the invitations to everyone, some didn't get it. But to be frank was it not that hard to figure out how to download the client without the mail, I just don't see myself waiting even if I never got the mail or got it on friday as some did.

As I see it is the login server the real problem right now, and should be fixed ASAP.

No, it wasn't difficult to download the client outside of the e-mail.  The only problem was, by getting it 3rd party, players wern't certain if they were experiancing the error mentioned above due to having an out of date client (due to not getting it straight from the source).  There was never any mention of the problem until several hours AFTER the beta started - it was then that it was mentioned that the error code was possibly due to a pre-order/pre-purchase issue.  Again, it's not so much the purchase issue, it's the communication issue.

    What a bunch of crap...

I bought the game from the GW2 website and paid 55€ in advance. I received a mail inviting me to the beta weekend and guess what?

I get this "Your account is all prepared but there's no current beta event runnng".

AND I BOUGHT THE DAMN GAME ON THE OFFICIAL STORE

    There's no solution yet.

    No official response.

No one replies to the tickets I sent.

So go Fanboys keep saying it's MY FAULT.

I prepurchased the game. They don't OWE me access to a beta event. BETA's are a testing mechanic for people that have enough common sense to realize that if they are testing something, things can go wrong.  Anet's biggest failure was not making that apparent by some sort of skill testing question before they accepted payment.
