Things got fixed on saturday so I got to play this weekend. And, the code actually did end up working. Hopefully the thousands of other people got things worked out as well..

Man that definately blows.. I hope it gets worked out for you and that you get re-imbursed in some fashion from GameStop. I would speak with their manager there and if they give you problems you can ask for a Regional Managers contact information.
That'd be best if they wanna act dumb in storre..
PM before you report at least or you could just block.
Sorry to hear what happened! How come you didn't pre-purchase the game through the website prior to this weekend? In any case on your gamestop receipt does it say over the code that was given to you.
"Your code to access the Guild Wars 2 Beta along with 3 Day Early Access and the Heros Band is: XXXX"?
I thought that had been happening from what I was hearing. Seems to make sense that retailers had been handing out the wrong keys. I'm only surprised that there were pre-order keys even available. I originally thought that only pre-purchase keys had been created.
Someone's hair is going to go white trying to figure this mess out.
I'm heading to the store in a few minutes to see what they can do for me.. It will probably be a waste of time, though.. But It may be somewhat hilarious If I went in there making a scene, lol.. I may just do that,,,,,,, now... Damn, I should bring a friend with me to record the show, lol.. I'm gonna say all I said to Brandon from Texas and see what they have to say.. I'm actually very curious to hear if they apologize before or after they give an excuse to cover their ass, lol.. I'll be back to give an update later tonight.....

here’s an update.. I just got back from gamestop.. The manager explained to me that my code should have worked as that was the only code gamestop gave out.. AND, I’m the 1st person who he heard of who had this issue.. He says I need to contact Arena Net… So now I’m at a loss as to what I should do..
He also told me by 5:00pm est last night they stopped giving codes for beta access.. So those who tried pre purchasing the game after that time did not receive a code for beta access. And If I tried adding the code after 5:00pm est, it wouldn’t accept it.. I said ok, well I got home at 2:00pm and entered the code. Then proceeded to download the client.. But I didn’t try logging in the first time until I got home from work late last night after midnight… He said that may have had something to do with why I couldn’t get in..
So, I dunno what to think anymore.. All I know is this was the most frustrating experience I’ve ever had, even more so than the nightmare I went through with Dark & Light so many years ago..

That's gamestop for you. Let's not forget how they handled Deus Ex. Can't trust their stores or their corporate policy. S'why I did digital download.
In regards to your update...sounds like bs or incompetence from the GameStop manager.
This is very poor customer service from both GameStop an arenanet. Especially if tue problem is as widespread as you say.
Pay-to-beta is and always has been questionable at best in my opinion. When they can't even provide the "garunteed" service they advertise it's even worse.
If there is such a deadline on getting the code, Arenanet needs to be clarifying those details better for sure.
Relax buddy. In a few months the game is out. No reason to go all Emo for not being in the Beta
I disagree. He pruchased sight unseen knowing he was getting beta access. He asked the salesman if he would get it, and was promised this. The company he bought from failed to provide a promised service. And it's a company often famous for mismanaging these things. While i love this game and will support it avidly, he has every right to complain! I doubt a lawsuit is a good idea really, but I'd jump all over Gamestop until they gave me A) my money back or a working code.
I have had almost the same thing happen at gamestop before. I no longer preorder anything from them.
It is wrong and thats a bummer for sure. Its up to you if you want to spend that much energy with a lawsuite and what not over a missed Beta weekend. If anything ask for a full refund and leave it at that IMO.
FYI exceprt from the official GW2 forms, dunno if it will help:
"However, those of you that have already registered your Pre-Order serial code and received an email invite from Arenanet to join the Beta Weekend Event, we will honor the invitation. Receiving the invitation was a mistake on our part and you will be able to log in shortly. Note that no further Pre-Order serial codes can be registered at this time.
If you paid in full and received a Pre-Order serial code by mistake, please contact your retailer to have this serial code converted to a Pre-Purchase serial code. If you did not pay for the game in full, you may contact your retailer to have your Pre-Order converted to a Pre-Purchase when you pay for the game in full.
Currently, GameStop still has Pre-Purchase serial codes available. If you purchased from GameStop and paid in full but received a Pre-Order serial code from them, please contact GameStop to have your Pre-Order converted to a Pre-Purchase. If you did not pay in full and you have a Pre-Order serial code, you can also contact GameStop to have your Pre-Order converted to a Pre-Purchase."
Seems to me the issue is caused from ANet's side. Gamestop probably doesn't have control of whether the code is actually for pre-order or pre-purchase.
But Gamestop should have given better Customer Service by pointing that out, AND offering to contact ANet on your behalf to sort this out for you.
