Gee I miss SWG

WWITWWIT Member Posts: 63

After playing WOW since my disgust of what SOE did with the CU....well Im bored to tears. I enjoy WOW but I find it no where near as addictive as I did SWG and I got to thinking how much I missed this game.

I grew up with StarWars and as flawed as the game was, it still amazed me. I got pulled in by everything, the sounds, sights, creatures, the other players and so forth. One of the things I miss most is the exploration of the different planets. In WOW you cant randomly explore areas unless your leveled high enough to venture around so your stuck grinding in areas untill your fit enough to compete with the mobs. With SWG If I got bored with the grind, I would amuse myself by getting location badges.

So I was one of the haters that left at the CU and bitched loudly about being forced to group. I got a copy of WOW and started my solo trek. Only problem? When you finally hit @ lvl30 the grind to 60 becomes almost unbearable without grouping. The amount of immature players in WOW is crazy compared to SWG. RP'ing is almost non-excistant in WOW. The PVP'ing is ok in WOW but I have never gotten that "my guts are twisted in knots" feeling from PVP like I did in SWG. PVP in SWG was truely memorable...in WOW its forgetable. Im finding it impossible to lacate a decent guild and since playing WOW for almost 12 weeks now, I still do not have 1 single game friend. In SWG I had tons of friends to chat with or hunt with or whatever.

So Im asking myself, why dont I go pick up a new copy of the SWG TE, forget about how it used to be and treat it as a new game? Give it a month and see how it goes. The only thing Im not sure on is if I should reactivate one of my 2 toons on Ahzazi or start fresh?  When I quit my 2 main toons still had @1 million credits each, but I gave away most of thier belongings.

So thats my story of the day...Imperials Rule!

1 million credits isn't that much anymore, depending on which server you decide to play on.

i would say if you don't have much stuff...then start over, go through the new player tutorial and get a feel for what's been added to the game.  you know, get a real fresh start.

    I often wonder about this...

I have some acquaintances and friends who got involved in some really ugly relationships. The hatred truly flowed between the 'partners', and each was sorry they EVER got involved with that person.

Greatful to be out of those relationships, they would rebel and go find many new and interesting people to date, and become involved with.

EVENTUALLY, every one of them, during the quiet times after a movie or just spilling their guts to their friend, would comment that..."I miss her."

I'm always the slap-in-the-face of reality, and that's when they get hit with the TRUTH.

They don't miss her. They miss what they THOUGHT was her. They miss what they HOPED was her. But now they are forgetting the 99% of the negative aspects of her, and need that slap in the face to snap out of it.

If you're concerned about credits starting off, just sell the BARC speeder you'll get with TE. Depending on the server you should get between 2 - 5 million credits. By no means are vast amounts of credits hard to come by in SWG.

    Good luck with the game!

this is a very strange thread.  mostly thanks to Wepps dropping that dark abyss into the middle of it.

it's actually funny how no one has commented on it, but i'm willing to bet it made everyone stop and think, lol

Thats not very responsible to just tell him to sell of the single best speeder in the game that is worth alot of money but not telling him atleast how much he should try to get for it. Not too mention he may be kicking himself for selling it later when he don't have it and realizes how cool the thing is.

Naw they just want to get some action! And what better way than to go back to an ex where you know what you are getting and it's a comfortable relationship. Especially if she has a new make over and a boob job and has been excersizing and in smokin shape! image

Well I too spent a bunch of time away from the game dabbling in other MMOs when I finally decided to come back to SWG and check it out last month. I also urge to try and start completely fresh. Do all the newbie quests and get a "feel" for what has changed in the time you have been gone.

I quit WoW for the same reasons you did mostly, I actually ran a guild of over 160 people, so I did make friends. Just kind of got bored with the game and lack of high lvl content. It also became too arduous of a trip to constantly handle squabbles and BS from the 15 year olds on mommy's pc that comprise so much of the game. Our guild is decently active, but there was always just something missing.

So I joined up on Naritus and checked out Erillion's guild and fell in love again. NO SWG is not like that ex g/f that you have those delusional memories about. But it feels damn good to be back off the wagon baby!

    GOOD CALL WHEEZAL!

You win the guy with no life award :)

It's Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. At least, that's the name of the actress.

She played Mystique in X-men. The blue chick that changes into everybody else...

Ok threadjacking at its best, but its time for a little ME TIME right now...lolimageimage

ATM I have reactivated one of my old chars, but I cant get JTL or RoTW to work. I didnt get any barc speeder either. I did activate and im my dashboard it says all are active, but they aint happening.

Also Ahzazi is a ghost town. There are an amazing amount of player houses and harvesters everywhere on Naboo, Tat, and Corelia, but hardly any players. I swung into my old town to see if any of the old guildies were still there and it had grown to easliy 5 times in the number of building that were there when I left, but again no players to be seen.

So Im guessing that to get any points, grouping is the only way. Most stiff I messed with only gave 1 point xp. When I took on equall mobs I got my butt kicked even 1 at a time, they healed up fast and I didnt...but Im also doing this without food/drinks/armor or buffs.

Looks like I may have to find another server unless things pick up.....I didnt even see enough players together to form a group and more Jedi than non-Jedi hanging around in the cities.

Welcome back, only place you might see people is dantooine hunting bols, other than that, what you see is pretty much how it is nowadays.

    Welcome back,

actually its quite a trend. I have been in a great guild since summer 2003 and you see most of the people that leave coming back after some time , 1 month, 6 months, one year. They play other games, have problems paying for the game , lose internet connection .. but when they come back we are still there to greet them and have fun. And I now know who multi-game guilds start. It simply becomes natural as you meet your friends in other games too.

Ahazi and Bria have been hit hard ... highly populated servers, but always too extreme in my opinion.

If you want to check out a normal server with a healthy population and quite some activity you are welcome to join us on Naritus. Several of the forum readers here have started a toon there. You can reach me as Novarider or Delos there, but Marguul or Noobia will welcome you too as a mmorpg fellow poster. Of course you can get a free starter package from me - no strings attached. And keep your BARC :-) ... you will kick yourself later if you sell it :-)

    Have fun

Actually I did create a new toon on Naritus last night. Im still doing some of the newb zone stuff. It would appear that I can probably level for a while at the camp over run by the ever spawning tuscan zealots. Just standing in onbe spot and plicking away, I think I could master marksman in about an hour....lol 1 thing I did see alot of was vet players trying to con newbs out of thier barc speeders.

My avatat on Ahzazi  and Naritus is Jahj

I did mess with 1 of my old chars...he still has a house and @20 swoops from when my other char was crafting and @1 million credits. I mainly just traveled around just to see whats new and get a feel for what type of food, drink, armor and buffs worked these days for combat. I still dont know.

Im having a issue with my ET not giving me JTL or RoTW. I also didnt get the barc speeder.  So far a swg forum csr only advice was try /claim for the barc, but offered no advice on why my registered copy dosent work???? It shows that my expansions are enabled but Im not finding Kashyyk or any of the JTL starter ships. Any advice would be appriciated.

Did you buy The Total Experience? Or just the expansions individually?

If you bought them individually you're out of luck with the speeder.

To get your free ship you need to talk to a recruiter and then to the squadron trainer of one of the 9 squadrons you have chosen :

    >>>>>

The pilot profession is composed of three different factions, each of which has three available squadrons to join:

    1. Rebel: Recruiter Location: J'pai Brek (-5072, -2343) Tyrena, Corellia
      • Akron's Havok Squad: Captain Kreezo, Tyrena, Corellia (-5177, -2281)
      • Vortex Squadron: V3-FX {droid} (right across the bridge) Moenia, Naboo
      • Crimson Phoenix Squadron: Commander Da'la Socuna (back room of the cantina) Mos Espa Tatooine
    2. Imperial: Recruiter Location: Commander Landau (-5516,4403) Theed, Naboo
      • Inquisition: Lt. Barn Sinkko, Kadaara, Naboo (5204, 6728)
      • Storm Squadron: Lt. Akal Colzet, Bestine, Tatooine (1110, -3514)
Note: this is widely considered the hardest pilot squad in the game.
      • Black Epsilon: Hakasha Sireen, Imp Outpost, Talus (-2183, 2259)
    3. Freelancer: Recruiter Location: Gil Burtin (-1174, -3647) Bestine, Tatooine
      • Smuggler Alliance: Dravis, Mos Eisley, Tatooine, Back room of cantina (3429,-4788)
Note: this squad is lightly Rebel-aligned. Your final mission will be against an Imperial Corvette.
      • RSF Squadron: Captain Dinge, Theed Naboo (-5497,4575)
Note: this squad is heavily Imperial-aligned. RSF pilots can't hurt Imperial ships and your final mission will be against a Rebel Corvette.
      • Corsec Squadron: Sergeant Rhea, Coronet Corellia (-275,4730)
Note: this squad is true neutral. On your final mission, you may choose to destroy either a Rebel or Imperial Corvette.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

To get to Kashyyk, launch into space with your ship ... press H for hyperspace .. choose Kashyyk .. hyperspace there ... press N for nav map, choosen Kashyyyk Space Station, autopilot there .. and pray that none of the Gotal pirates takes an interest in you.

You CANNOT reach Kashyyyk with the travel option alone.

If you see someone from the guild YCS trying to con newbs out of their BARC speeder please let me know (but I doubt it). If these people are in another guild, you might as well known which guilds you might NOT want to be part of in the future. BARCs on Naritus go for anything between 2 and 5 million.

If you got RotW by digital download, you can claim a varactyl pet. From the TTE box you get the BARC speeder.

If you need some backup for the themepark, let me ( Novarider or Delos ) know ( I play at European times).

    Have fun

Ok I got the Kashyyk thing figured out, along with the JTL thing. I did purchase the  TE version of the game. With my char on naritus, I did eventually get the barc also. But not on my char on ahazi??

This the barc a 1 server only item?

And while Im asking questions, when grouped with higher level players I was only getting 1xp per kill on mobs that were giving up 266 when im not grouped. I thought that this was the whole idea behind grouping? I did see the group modifier, but when I checked my actual weapons XP , I was just receiving 1xp...so Im confused?? How close do you need to be with the group? I was within @200m of them, but waqs that too far?

    Thanks

  • grapevinegrapevine Member UncommonPosts: 1,927

The BARC is a one per account item, I think.

Regarding the XP.  If grouped you need to kill something that is within the level range of the highest leveled person you are grouped with.  If you kill something below their range you get 1XP, which is what you are seeing.
