I liked the guardian best... it's hard to break the tank habit after so many years.
My wife was all keen on the elementalist, and then on day two I made her make a mesmer and she fell in love big time (and when I took her mesmer and bought a greatsword, I fell in love bigtime too).
I'll also play a necro and probably a warrior and ranger.
Like others its hard to find a main class, I came to the beta with Engineer in mind however I really, really enjoyed the thief. I tried Necro which seemed like a good PvP class but it just wasn't for me. I'm thinking to try elementalist for the next beta.

Yeah Mesmer with a Greatsword had me hooked. Also the Guardian makes for one great support class, well from what I seen when I played one with a sceptar and torch.
I will have a Thief, Guardian, Mesmer, and Engineer for sure. At first thief felt a little under powered. But when I hit level 14 and got out of the starter area I started to figure out how to play it properly. The class I didn't really have any interest in was the Engineer. But after playing it and trying out the flame thrower and Medic kits the class won me over.
Mesmer for sure for my "main" but not sure why everyone thinks GS had insane dmg, 1hsword and offhand melts faces and I found much more enjoyable and different. Greatsword and staff were nice for large WvW where getting into the thick of things is probably a bad idea...
I'm surprised so few picked Ele. I didn't get a chance to try it since I was too fixated on my ranger, but next beta weekend I defenetely will since it was one of my initial choices.
I'm surprised as well, as I saw so many Elementalists running around over the weekend that I wondered if the profession might wind up being too popular.
Right now I'm torn between Elementalist and Guardian. Being an (ahem!) older gamer with less than lightning fast reflexes, I might have a better shot with a character who can keep some distance -- which favors the Elementalist -- but I did really enjoy both....

Im between necro and thief. I like daggers. Though yeah, I chose against elementalist because I figured everyone would go for it. I like daggers, so if I played Id prolly only play with daggers on ele.
In world PVP you have to be ranged because it's just two ranged zergs and if you leave the zerg you get picked apart from the zerg instantly.
Very false statement. Success in zerg battles can be achieved easily with melee. The only place were melee was at a disatvantage was agaisnt gates. For that they have to switch to ranged weapons.
I only managed to play my thief to level 6, so i plan on focusing on him until I reach at least level 20 before trying any other class. I've always been a rogue at heart and usually end up playing one as my main in most MMO's.. Then I end up rolling a healer class because the need for them are always great and for some particular reason, I have this weird gift at playing Healers really well..
So Thief for now, then healer later....

Guardian and Mesmer are my top 2 for sure, so much fun and versatility...
But I'm going to have to give the edge to the Guardian.
Heavy armor, great options for melee and range, single and multi target, really like the pale blue fire kind of effects, hands down my fav.
Mesmer is my class. I'm getting an itch to try guardian.
I'm surprised about:
Thief - 9.2%
Elementalist - 7.2%
Wouldn't thieves be rolled massively for PvP? Can I conclude that the majority of the almost 200 voters are primarily PvErs?
What about elementalists? Too many skills to manage? Surprised that it's lagging behind or maybe all the ele voters haven't seen this thread yet.

My initial thoughts were to roll thief or mesmer. After the beta I think I will be rolling an Ele. Loved it....

Balance is actuall quite good.
