Sorc soloing BAM sample

holdenhamletholdenhamlet Member EpicPosts: 3,772

Here's a sample of me fighting a BAM.  I won the fight.  It took about 10 minutes so rather than put it all up I just put up a chunk to give people an idea of what it's like to solo as a sorc.  Definitely not your average mage type.  Watch in 720p.

Near the end he gets enraged which happens a few times during a BAM fight, at which point the only thing you can do is to try to avoid getting hit because he moves so fast.

Zomg oh noes animation locks. You stood in one place the whole time. You couldn't die, it's so easy.

    In all seriousness, well done.

Those are nasty BAMs. One good swipe of theirs and you'd be creamed Elin. image

    Keep the vids coming.

Thanks.  This was a successful fight.  I went and tried another right after, but my concentration was down and I was 2 shot pretty early on.

Ranger/Sorc are trivial. Do that as a Warrior for a much more rewarding experience, or slayer, or even berserker.

I honestly think you're cheating yourself out of most of the experience if you go ranged in this game.

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

When you talk about animation locks you mean the monster is in the animation lock right not the player  because if you move from where the monster is going to attack the BAM will do the animation in the place you were while you manage to run off. Isn't that what the complaint is ?

I've almost regretted not making an Elin, but I like castanics so much :)

That particular BAM is a real pain to solo as ranged, since he tends to rush in unpredictable patterns.

I was actually looking forward to watching this video. But, when I saw the little girl, I quit watching. I have no idea why any developer would make that race when they know it is an "M" rated game. I can see making this race in a childrens game, but not an M rated game.

The majority of Korean/ Japan players prefer to play Elin over any other race. The majority of Western players prefer to play Castanic/ Humans/ Amani. Anthropomorphic and lolicon races are made because a certain big market prefers to play them. It has nothing to do with the rating.

Yea kudos for the solo kill on that BAM, that one in particular is probably one of the most mobile ones and very difficult to avoid.

What would you say to this lady then? She poured her heart out, conflicted, because she's more worried what people will say to her.

I am a 50+  year old housewife and I want to play that Elin race and I was reading the boards here and not very happy with the character assassination of people who play them. I find them cute seriously and want to play them but am hesitant because obviously there is a lot of prejudices against people who play them. I do not share these views and just find them really adorable. I am also a mother and have children who are grown up already who share some of my interests. My husband was also teasing me when I wanted to play one so I am thinking it may be a common thought.

I am also a huge anime, manga and manhwa fan so I have a big liking for this type of art. In your opinion should I just play the race and hopefully no one in game judges me and refuses to group or should I play it safe and not roll one for fear of not being invited to groups and guilds. Also since they are so small for PvP they would be ideal I do like to PvP but am not very good at it but I would like to do PvP too and this tiny race seems ideal since there is no auto or tab targetting.

Great job on the solo.   The BAMs you fight later on will make this guy look like a walk in the park though, so be ready!

I don't know I tried soloing a ballisk on my 20 zerker and it wasn't nearly as fast paced.  Everything just depended on if my blocks worked or not.

On my sorc, if I get hit or knocked down I'm basically done for.  On my zerker it wasn't like that at all (although I was unsuccessful), so I think you're more penalized for making mistakes on sorc than the classes you mentioned, which makes it more intense.

The damage you see me taking in the video isn't from any of it's attacks, it's just from it walking on me.  The times I actually get hit by one of its attacks (especially that one where he pounces 3 times in an unpredictable pattern) on my sorc by a BAM basically take half my health, and knock me down then I'm dead the next hit.

So, it just feels way more intense and dangerous on my sorc, which is fun.  Each one feels like a boss in an action game and they're available to do anytime I want.  Really nice alternative to doing quests for getting xp and one of my favorite parts of the game so far.

Yeah, Elin's are causing a lot of controversy over here in the west.  I generally try to play a race that's most unlike myself in fantasy games, so Elin was the perfect choice.  Plus they're just adorable (no not in that way), and I've never had a chance to play a character like them in an mmorpg.

There's a 96 page thread on the official forums discussing the controversy on the official forums here:

    http://tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums/races/topics/Three-reasons-why-complaints-about-Elins-are-kneejerk-responses-Sidepoint-about-Armor-Design

If you're unaware, the Elin's were censored for the NA version of the game.  In the Korean version, you can always see their panties.  Enmasse made little short shorts for Elins and covered their tummies in our game.

I for one am glad their censored that much because it's already borderline pervy to play one, but it's still lots of fun because it's so unlike real life for me.  There's a whole movement of players trying to remove the censorship.

As for one of the comments saying it shouldn't have a M rating if you can play children, well, there's plenty of adult races to choose from too.  The M rating is mostly for the blood and probably super cleavage and thongs on adult women races.

like pretty much all MMO's complex AI is pretty much non existent on almost everything expect on some instanced bosses.. in these action based ones its more noticable though compared to games like wow.

Once it locks into an attack animation, it goes through with it.  If it didn't, there would be no way any classes could solo them.  There's normally some indication that it's about to begin an attack, and that's when you evade.  If you don't, then you're toast (at least as a sorcerer, as another class you're gonna get hurt).  It's really your only chance to get any hits in.  It's not bad AI.  In fact, mob AI in TERA is the best I've seen in any MMO I've played.

At one point in the video I evaded an attack by a split second.  If that woudl've hit, I would've been knocked down and then destroyed.
