What contest, TSW and Tera+GW2 are in a completely different league. im not saying that TSW is so amazing it outshines the other games, what im saying is that they are too different to compare. GW2 and Tera will be in competition, TSW wont be fighting for subscriptions with them though. ill show you why really quick.
TSW GW2+Tera
Modern Fantasy
Tab Target Action
No Class Class
No Levels Levels for Tera and a short leveling burst for GW2
Investigation Misisons Mostly Combat and Fetch in terms of the quests but has dynamic events.
Combat Missions
(and one more i forgot about)
in the end the games are too different to compare, There wont be a contest between them. Also add in the fact that TSW isn't shooting for WoW numbers, Funcom knows a game can be successful without Millions of people playing.
You might be right, but both Tera and GW2 seems to be a lot more ready for release than TSW as well. It might be a bit unfair since Tera have been out for 1 1/2 years in Korea but FunComs problems have always been the coding. Both AoC and AO are fine game but they both had more bugs than the temple of doom.
In my case I will wait a year or so before getting TSW, it seems really fun but I rather not suffer through all the bugs one more time. AO is still famous for the worst launch in MMO history.
It is not impossible that some players will do GW2 + TSW or Tera + TSW since the gamestyles and settings are different.
Planetside 2 might just make it before the end of the year also
Yea can't count out Planetside 2. I'm waiting on this gem.. I see Diablo 3 isn't here in the discussion and if SWTOR has a place. I know Diablo 3 deserves one also..
2012 will be a show and prove year.. SWTOR set the example of bad.. Who will set the example of good for the year..
Alot of good choices for possible contenders.. Ofc there's a second and third place as well..
One game can't rule them all..
PM before you report at least or you could just block.
Yes, the race for second place will be between GW2, TSW and Tera.
Mists of Pandaria will claim first place without any problem at all, none will come even close to the amount WoW sells.
Blizzard will most likely pull another stunt to sell MoP just like they did with D3. Funny how everyone makes fun of SWTOR for giving people a free month's play, as a sign of their troubles, when wow gives you f2p to lvl 20. I wonder how long till wow is f2p to lvl 60 or even just f2p entirely; they do already have a cash shop. There's no doubt that wow is bleeding concurrent active players, though I don't see their subs numbers going down drastically anytime soon due to the anual pass scheme to buy D3. The fact that they had to entice players with "free" D3 for a year's worth of wow play says something. Can't stop the bleeding, but you can see them trying to slow it down.
No doubt MoP will sell well, as in several million copies; I mean, wow still has at least 10 million subs (can't speak for concurrent active players). However, I believe MoP will be the worse selling expansion of wow. Don't be surprised if you see Blizzard giving away freebies just to get people to buy MoP.
There's still life in wow and most likely Blizzard will damn wow to an excruciating slow death over the course of the next couple years. I guess MoP and time will tell.
I don't think it really comes down to those 3 games.
GW2 has given us a great game to play. Without the worry of endgame being stale.
TSW I watched for a long time until they made the big PvP revamp last year. I lost interest pretty much in how the game evolved.
Tera I played the first CBT and I knew it wasn't the game for me or any different than any other Themepark MMO. Without PvP at launch it will have issues staying at the top for long.
Archeage will be the game to challenge GW2 I think. But we have to wait to get more information in the game but it looks great!
When you activate a skill while pointing at a mob, it is selected automatically as the target for the skill. You don't have to hit Tab at all. Took me the better part of a day during the BWE to figure it out.
Not a race at all.. you got fooled to buy GW2, bye bye.. you lost you money.
lol.. have to agree here.. theres no race at all.. and i bet people who bought gw2 will be regreting it soon.
How did you get to thise conclusion? Everyone in the beta loved it and that's talking about an extremely early beta on a game with no release date. So its rough as hell.
There are polls going around these very forums. One asks how many people will cancel their preorders after the beta for example. 5%. 5% of the population after over a thousand votes said they would cancel their pre-order.
Every hands-on, Every review, and Every professional opinion is nothing short of glowing for the game. Better yet why don't you guys wait to actually try the game?
I can tell none of you have tried it because you need a pre-purchase to get in. If 95% of the community loved the beta (as represented by the poll) there's a 95% chance you will to.
There's an even higher chance, by that logic, you will enjoy the finished product. I'd say about 3 or 4% of that 5% used the beta as some sort of demo rather than knowing what it was and cancelled because of balancing issues or performance issues. Those things are being ironed out right now, hence the beta.
So what are you going to do when the game releases? Are you guys going to sit in here by yourselves pouting? The rest of us won't be here so you just going to cry to yourself? Or are you actually going to get in there and figure 95% of the community, the MMORPG community no less (the most negative forum regarding GW2 on the planet) enjoys the game for a reason?
In terms of financial success, GW2 already won this race if there even was one. Honestly I never even thought of it this way, TSW vs Tera makes sense though. GW2 is in a whole nother league of its own. The game just needs to sell the box in order to be successful. People always buy stuff from cash shops as well, so that will help. I would compare TSW / Tera to SWOTR maybe, if anything.

HAHAHAHAHA
Financial success?? HAHAHA.. you know any official numbers??? even if you know, you realize Blizzard is probable making all GW2 sales in a MONTH??

Wow, thanks Unlight! I played the whole BWE without realizing that! lol
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

I'm sorry where was Blizzard in this race? I thought it was between TSW, GW2, and Tera?
Well I know that the game sold out of pre-purchases. All normal copies, delux editions and collectors editions ($150 mechas of information and collectables) in the first two months. My local gamestop has backorders on copies. The gamestop in fife (ultimately the one I had to go to) only had three more. Best buy was out. Walmart was out. Fred meyer was out (I checked all of these places).
Now they did have less copies than they would have liked because the beta access had to be limited so every store had limited supply of codes/sales they could peddle. Still, when I have to go to fife to pre-purchase a game. I think you can tell its doing alright.

Asian grinder, Tera? I stress grinder.
GW2 with no sub fee and a good open beta?
GW2 will be the clear winner. The good news is that there are several mmo options.

GW2 *could*, but I think it's unlikely. A million to a million and a half is more likely.
This is the only MMO possibly coming out 2012 of any concern.

no one is going to beat Age of Wushu, already most anticipated mmo in China and u know how many of them play mmo over there.

So didn't Tera win since they finished their game first? It said race right?
My theme song.
Feel free to provide a date since even with the bugs and server issues, most people were ecstatic to be playing over the weekend.
Keep wishing upon that star, kiddo. It'll take a miracle for your little dream to come true.
completely agree, alot more people like it than you think you know, its just they are clever enough to avoid these forums lol
Wow, thanks Unlight! I played the whole BWE without realizing that! lol
