i'll judge it when i get to try it like i do every other game, no point in getting worked up over anything till you actually get to play it.
but i love the elder scroll universe so i'm hoping it will be fun, i really don't care if it does the same things as other mmo's i just want it to be fun and not tedious

You know I remember back during the height of the Interplay vs Bethesda lawsuit, that one of the claims being presented in that case were that Zenimax were making and i quote "a world of warcraft style mmo". Looks like those lawyers were being more truthful than we had thought!
I'm not going to condemn the game outright, I don't have enough information yet. I'm admittedly a big fan of the series since Arena and always felt it worked perfectly well as a single-player experience. Alot of the charm, going anywhere and doing almost anything you want, seems like it would be lost if you suddenly have to share a world with other players. But really these concerns won't be valid so long as they continue to make single-player games in the Elder Scrolls universe. And my acceptance of the game will probably depend on that.
Also Imperials are my favorite race and they aren't playable, and that kind of bums me out.
So it seems as if the patrons of this site have found something other than Guild Wars 2 to piss and moan about.Seems as the cycle is starting earlier and earlier as well as the game has hardly even been revealed.
they better not make one other tab targeting, linear, quest hub driven WoW clone or i'll be so effing pissed.......
Why should you care? You have Tera, Guild Wars 2, The Secret World, Neverwinter Nights, Mechwarrior Online and Planetside 2 which are being made for your spaz monkey demographic. There are a lot of us who would like modern representations of our preferred play styles too, such as tab targeting, clickable hot bars and yes, even over used fantasy settings. TES appears to be the only one in the offering for us for the next few years, everything else that has recently released or will be in the next couple of years are all about action combat, so stop whining.
P.S. My only real concern about the game is that whether it ends up being an open world or not, they will still manage to funnel people through very narrow paths of progression. The fact that they are including raids makes me really worry about that. Most companies feel that in order to make raiding viable, it has to be the ultimate progression path and I really, really dislike that mentality.
You know, actually, I know this isn't at all what you're intending but you've now renamed the comment community here for me. The haters are so rampant. I think I'm renaming the chronics of MMORPG.com "World of Trollcraft."
Third person view with hotbar/cooldown combat and a class system means this is DOA and certainly NOT a true Elder Scrolls MMO. What a complete waste of a perfectly good opportunity. Rename it something else so it doesn't tarnish the Elder Scrolls brand.
Some friends and I were talking about this also. We've decided on "World of Tamriel". *grin*
Eh, read an article on it and quite honestly it sounds like every other MMO. Well cept the whole voting an emperor from the playerbase thing. Hope it fullfills the desires of some but I'm thinking I may have to pass. But who knows. Still seems some time off.
As for the one who asked release year it was said 2013.
Vote xxxDarthLordLegolas01xxx 2013
JK... awesome sandbox mechanic
Yay 99.9 perceont of people who play the game will never experience this mechanic. So lets waste millions of dollars in development for something that 200 people will only enjoy.
Don't play MMO's as single player games?
Personally, if I were to play it, I would be very active in that aspect of things. It is called interacting with the community. Should try it sometime.
There's a few things that have come out that make you wonder about this game. And then there's features like that which are a very good thing. Of course, the question remains: what are the perks of being Emperor?

Couldnt agree more, cartoony graphics rather than real and gritty?! Cmon can the development house not do basic market research? Elder scrolls should be dark, have a ton of atmosphere and a sense of history That is what makes elder scrolls what it is. Hero engine, dear god they are going to release something 15 years out of date by the time it is released. yuo can almost hear the same conversation that the 'marketing team' in bioware had - omg, lets make a game as successful as WOW - but in Elder scrolls world. Gutted, I love Beth games.
To be perfectly honest, let me pose an honest question. Seriously, it is honest, not trolling.
Who the hell played Elder Scrolls games for the combat mechanics? Really, the combat system isn't that good. And you've been able to use a hotbar before in Elder Scrolls games. Most of us who play on the PC don't act like we play on a console. When one thinks of Elder Scrolls, they don't think of the awesome uber first person combat system.
You think of the freedom that is offered in the game to really do just about anything you want. One thinks of the incredibly rich and deep world offered in each outing. Considering you haven't seen the world yet, you really don't know if the game will or won't "Have a sense of atmosphere" based off of a few maybe screenshots in a magazine.
I have my own serious concerns about this game, but we really can't say much about a game we learned about formally 36 hours ago, and we haven't seen any actual gameplay footage on. As far as that goes, consider me cautiously pessimistic.
I play TES games despite the fps/action-controls bcs its one of the very last open world rpgs.
Regarding ESO i wonder what it will be. If its Daoc2 will Daoc-players ever realize and acknowledge? What is with the TES players that will be disapointed that it is not about the things making TES the series it is?
"Torquemada... do not implore him for compassion. Torquemada... do not beg him for forgiveness. Torquemada... do not ask him for mercy. Let's face it, you can't Torquemada anything!"
You know what's really going to suck? We'll probably never get another single player Elderscolls game now...Never. At least they went out with a bang with Skyrim.
Not nececssarily.
Bethesda has already stated they were in the early stages of planning out the next Elder Scrolls game.
Wanna know why they will continue to make SRPG's in the Elder Scrolls universe? Much as it pains me to say it.... consoles. Skyrim sold over 13 million copies and it hasn't been out a year. You simply aren't going to get that kind of market on the PC alone.
They should have just made this Dark age of Camelot 2 because it looks more like that than elder scrolls. Not saying I won't consider playing this but its more then likely I will pass it up for something better. I am curious after reading the article about elder scrolls online what the game developers were thinking. I guess they started development 5 years ago when wow was still at the top of its game and the staff is mainly made up of people that have zero experience making sandbox games or action combat games so they would have been like this. "Well guys we don't know diddly jack about sandbox games or how to make it so you need to aim in combat,so we will make a combat auto attack with a hotbar game with a class level sytem like we have done before. We will make a few tweaks so people will not notice that its not anything remotely like oblivion or morrowind but,we can copy the things we see wow do or that we did when working on past mmos and put it in a world with elder scrolls lore. The fans will surely understand right?."
I bet thats what they said to themselves but the way elderscroll fans are reacting does not bode well for the game.

I see a few deluded fanbois and a few deluded trolls who already had their minds made up, and no amount of evidence or facts would change their opinion.
Then I see a lot of people who say it could be good, it could be bad, lets wait and see.
Meanwhile, I see all the sites going "OMFG, ELDER SCROLLZ ONLINE!!!!ELEVEN!!!!! MUST WRITE ARTICLE.
Meanwhile, Zenimax says "look at all the free traffic and marketing we just generated."
Then the suits at Bethesda say "Wait, you mean there are people who exist that haven't played Skyrim. Not for long after this free marketing blitz our IP just got!"
So honestly, this doesn't sound that different or surprising than what I expected.
The lore isn't what makes TES games good, the gameplay is. Why in the world would they strip the good and keep the meh. Granted, they've got some deep lore and it's well written, but deep lore a good game does not make.
So they're taking a football, giving it to people who love basketball, and telling them to dribble it. Sure, it's still a ball of some sort, but it just doesn't work for what it is supposed to be.
If this game is another themepark as rumored with restrictive classes, guided leveling and the rest of what goes in a themepark, then this game is toast before it is even started. Unimaginative developers should never be rewarded.
Using a well known IP to foist trash on the playing public is the ultimate sin.
It's being made by a different set of devs than the Skyrim team, so it's not a replacement for the single player games, those will still be made along side this. The game mechanics look solid and some of their ideas could be innovative if they are used properly, It's hard to say for sure without a lot more detail about the game.
The one screenshot I saw looked good for an mmo, anyone expecting Skyrim graphics for an mmo is just unrealistic. Any good mmo needs a graphic system that looks good but is still usable by a majority of pc owners without killing their framerates and latency. I'm confident the game will look good, but i do hope furture screens reveal an art direction that has a variety of moods and tones.
At this point a lot is still wait and see what we get, i'm sure E3 this year will be big for announcements and details. I'm fine with a hotbar as long as it is limited, I like the idea of open dungeons for some areas, the pvp looks good, and the breaking down of the agro system to make personal playstyles more available than just having to have certain job roles, could be fantastic if done correctly. Combine the mmo and the stand alone games, and it's going to be a big fanbase for Bethesda and Zenimax online.
No it's not, maybe with old engines, but not with the new engines now on the scene. Planetside 2 and Everquest Next are doing just that. High single palyer gfx in a MMO without the performance hits you'd get from old outdated engines from the last decade.

Neither of which have been proven to handle typical MMO loads. Looks good on paper, but in practice....... we've all seen this kind of thing before. They said the exact same thing before WAR released. You could have hundreds of people in an area and not have issues. What a load of crap that turned out to be.
I don't think the graphics were anything to sneeze about in Skyrim. I wish they made the graphics better, but I know not everyone has a gaming machine and they have to cater to everyone. Plus they seemd to target the console gamers with skyrim and it showed in the gameplay and graphics. I actually wish I would have bought it for my PS3 instead of the PC, seemed like I would have enjoyed it more. They will probably come out with another game in the series which will cater to the console gamers since they sold so much more in that market, so not sure I will purchase anymore of them for the PC.
The combat was pretty boring, not much to say about it. Went with sword and shield and just plowed through everything. Used the bow a few times and it was fun trying to arc the arrows into things but I like melee more. The exploring was fun, but after you run into a town or city 2 time almost everything you hear from npc's is just repeated again and again. I also crafted up to the daedric armor, sword and shield, which then nothing could even hurt me and I was just way to powerful. I know some of you play to try and max out everything but thats not fun for me. Almost all of the quests were the exact same as mmo hub style quests, go get X many eye balls, kill X hidden in Y cave, craft me X many of these, etc. Yes the mobs leveled around you and you were free to go anywhere from the start, but you are still fighting the same spider or bandit that you did at level 1 you do at level 30, kinda got repetitive after awhile.
Not sure why some people are saying sandbox, skyrim is not like a sandbox game, it was a easy 1 player theme park mmo style rpg. Sandbox games just do not work and glad they didn't go that route with TESO.
Not sure why alot of you are up in arms about Skyrim being so great, I liked it for awhile but it still fell short in alot of areas for me and could not hold me past 100 hours. There were also sooo many bugs and glitches but it was to be expected in a game that huge.
None of the mmo's out in past 5 years have been able to hold me longer then, at the most 6 months (rift), and I doubt any of these new one's will either. I started playing mmo's with EQ and had a great time playing that for awhile, can't remember my exact time line. Then DAoC came out and I fell in love with the 3 faction pvp they threw at us, which was great for awhile then moved on like many others on here to WoW for a few years. Maybe TESO will be able to give me what all these others haven't lately, but I will have to wait and see. If not, oh well the next best thing will always a few months away so I would move on to the next. For now I'll remain optimistic and keep and eye on it for more information to come out. As of right now I will most likely purchase it and try it out for myself.
This is just my opinion and decided to throw it out there after reading nothing but negative posts the last few days. I think there is only room for improvment with each new game that comes out. Yes I get dissappointed with the new games when they fall short of what I expected, but thats also with alot of things in life.
Perhaps you should capitolize on the supposed claim that you got SKyrim for the PC and get some mods or play with the editor, you'll understand why people talk about sandboxes and Skyrim.
As for yer other comments, try a different difficulty, there are alot of quests that don't play to the generic 'Kill ten rats' method (I dare say those types of quests are in the minority unless you are trylu anal about going to a select few NPCs that are capable of offering you them ad-nauseum), the mobs were certainly finite, but there were tiers that changed over time, like more bandit leaders, trolls, etc instead of spiders and bandit scouts.
Point of this comment being check the facts before you wanna form an opinion upon them.
My other remark for this is that while the console certainly garners the most sales, it's a definite thing to say that PC players stick with each game in the series for a lot longer on average. Back in early February PC players had an average of 75 hours spent in game, and it's only grown from there.
You wanna make a game that is built on the premise of longevity you need to cater to the market that is actually likely to play it that long. A Skyrim MMO is likely going to be a PC game. Guess how many Elder Scrolls players on the PC are going to want to play a game that plays very little like the last three titles that are all still actively played on the PC?

How is this anything like Elder Scrolls?
WoW-like hotbar combat? Been there and done that... 10 times.
