After experiencing both, I have to say...I prefer Rift's events to GW2's. I like the scale, the objectives, the sudden pvp, the multiple boss fights, the sounds, the style in which they appear the rewards and most of all, the communities and social hubs they foster.
I know, I know, its blasphemy. But its just my preference. Go RIFT!!
Agreed on the PVP that happened during the Rift events. Taking away any threat of PVP while doing PVE makes the PVE much more boring.

Not wrong, it's all down to personal preference in my book
To each their own. In Rift I found myself avoiding DE's while I ran quests.
I did the same thing in GW2. I avoided Events to do the quest and PvP. PvP was very slow compared to the PvE, but I prefer the PvP to the Events. Quest where alot more fun than events IMO. done well, and better than Rift's quest.

Right? Wrong? I'm sure you know that these terms don't really apply too well to subjective preferences like this...
Anyhow, on topic, I quite liked Rift's dynamic events when Rift released, but GW2's impressed me a lot more. After 6-8 weeks play in Rift, the zone events felt quite repetitive....I'll have to see how things work out in GW2.
One of the big pluses that GW2 has is the level-scaling thing whereby a high-level character will get autolevelled down in a lowbie zone, meaning that the event can be a challenge for them too, though rewards could be an issue for some.
In Rift, it also felt like one was competing against others for one's tier (& rewards) in a DE, but in GW2, getting gold level feels easier, so GW2 may lead to more genuinely cooperative play...so I'm wonderin if GW2's setup might actually lead to more community-building.
I'm looking forward to GW2, having enjoyed the beta (I played GW1 for about 2 years or so).......but I only managed 6-8 weeks in Rift....it just never really grabbed me (though chloromancer was fun).

Yeah that is one thing I don't like about Rifts. You get low level zone invasions where high level players have no interest in the rewards. And even when I would like to help out, it usually isnt welcome because you end up steamrolling and trivializing the event. Often times, you kill the final boss so fast that the lowbie players that could actually benefit dont have time to get there and reap any rewards.
