So like everyone else on this section of the forums, I have tested Diablo 3. I was highly dissapointed when i realized there would be no trait points, or skill tree's. Combat was fun, bosses were challenging, but theres two key components that I just cant seem to locate. Customization- People will tell me the runes I put in my skills will set myself apart, or my gear but thats not really anything new. Not alot of people were running the same builds in a given group in diablo 2 ,and now that they have even narrowed it down to 4 people cap with linear character progression what will happen.... I had someone tell me diablo 3 is going to be a pvp based game, but it wont even include pvp at launch. But when it does come what then? It will be like who can spam the quickest. Blizzard is asking me to drop 60 bucks for a hack n slash with linear character paths and no replay value besides rerolling characters or possibly hardcore mode, for the people that are buying this game what do you see in it as far as customization/replay that I don't. I've tried really hard to look forward to this game because of my fantastic experience in diablo 2 but as of now im still left with a bad taste when thinking about D3.

I want to know what other people think. Hence the thread, made for discussion.

Why?
Because you like hack and slash, procedurally generated, progression based loot games.
If you don't like those, then you shouldn't buy it.
I think your over complicating it.
If you can answer the following questions then that will help you decide:
Is it fun to play YES/NO
Did you enjoy your beta (demo) YES/NO
If you answered YES or NO then congratualtions, your on your way to making a decision.
{I answered YES btw to both so I pre purchased}
I just made 4 monk builds. I could probably also do like a holy damage or a fire damage build as well. And probably other stuff I'm not even thinking of.

The scaling of the game works dif then in diablo 2. Its based mostly off of weapon. Making more builds viable in theory.
In diablo 2 you had only a few builds that work, just like in most Tree based games. I like how I can try out lots of dif builds without having to reroll every time. That and a lot feel the customization is better then the second game cause of the scaling and rune choices. Its like Guilds Wars 2 in a way. You have access to all the skills, yet you can't use them all at the same time. You must pick and choose what skills you use and how you moded them with runes. This should give a good amount of variety.
A lot of people were not happy about the new system from diablo 1 to diablo 2. Funny how people forget about the drama once they get over it. I for one don't want a diablo 2.5. I want a new game just likey they did from 1 to 2. It might not be all we hoped for. Yet still I feel change is healthy.
I like how people are always clammoring for innovation around here. Then when someone does it (and Blizzard nonetheless) they scream and cry that it's not like the old way.

D2 really only provided the illusion of choice. The fact of the matter is, you pretty much HAD to distribute your points in a certain way to be viable for Hell difficulty.
Here is a great post which sums it up far better than I ever could. It's a bit long, but covers pretty much all your concerns: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/3811455085
If that doesn't convince you that D3's system is far deeper and more flexible than D2's could ever hope to be, then I don't know what will.
From what you've written, I would say go play something else. You even said it yourself, you were very disappointed with the game.
I heard that those indie games Torchlight 2 and Path of Exile are the best thing since sliced bread. So go play that okay?

It would be so damn boring if it was the same game with just better graphics. Most leading games right now are trying to work past the tree system. Its outdated imo.
Having to reroll your character a month down the line because you realize you wasted points should not be considered replayability. If that's your idea of fun, how about you give me the $60 bucks and I'll bash your head with a hammer and we'll call it even.
I'm playing PoE and it's pretty retarded knowing perfectly well that I'm going to regret several point decisions I'm making - Mainly because I'm new to the game and have no idea what I'm doing.
Haha awesome.
Or if you like, just everytime you accidentally assign the wrong skill to your hotbar, delete your character and reroll.

I think alot of you were looking at what I said in a very negative way. Im all for innovation, and change, but when your making a series, and you DO change something it could be for the better or worse. I felt like no skill tree's would kill the game, but Im starting to see the customization present through all the skill rune builds and such.

Well it came off fairly negative
I too was on the fence at hearing the various trolls going on about lack of customization. It's bad enough you have to pick a preset character to disallow customization with your playstyle. However, after reading through for myself (read not taking some bitter douche's word for it) it seems like there's still quite a bit to differentiate with. I'm a Diablo 1 vet and I welcome most of these changes. If you're a Diablo fan, I can't see why you wouldn't enjoy the game.
I also find it funny how people who only played the first few lvls of the game and have not really seen much can say such things. Take any MMO. If you only level to like lvl 10 or something. You have not seen anything. You have no customization cause your just way too damn low of a level.
At the same time I played Tera and didn't get past lvl 10, cause how the game felt. I just didn't like the game. If you don't like how the game feels then ok not for you. If you are worried about customization or other high end game stuff. You can't say one way or another tell after you have goten there really.
For me the game feels like diablo 3. It playes a lot like the first two. The game systems are new and I'm not 100% on how I feel about those yet. That being said, the game feels right and I'm willing to give the new systems a try. Again like I said before. Without the new systems. It would feel like I'm playing diablo 2 with new graphics and that would be super boring.
That was not the case for PvP builds. There were huge debates over stat distribution for a large number of builds. For people who wanted to get the most out of their character in PvP you had to really think about your stats and skills. Often there wasn't one right choice. I am not dissing D3's system but saying that D2's system allowed for only one choice is completely untrue.
Of course, a lot of the times people would just drop everything into vitality. But there were a lot of builds where you had to consider the right ratio of dex/str/energy to vitality.

I think this build would be fun

there is absolutely no reason, zero, none whatsoever to buy D3 in my opinion. the upcoming DOTA2 and GW2 contain the best of both pvp and pve, and have better talents behind development. both dota2 and gw2 can be played atm, so buying d3 "till the others are out" is not a valid argument.
it doesnt offend me that many will choose to buy it, to each their own. but i cant help asking "why would you?"
in games where you can faceroll and win, the build giving the most dps is always the most viable. especially in coop.
Why would I buy D3?
