WOW servers suck

dorvandorvan Member Posts: 1

The WOW servers suck. I have broadband and I have no connection problems or lag whatsoever on guild wars. But on WoW, my latency is 3000+ms!!! OMFG. Every time i type a message it appears 3 seconds late that alone friggin pisses me off. And please don't ask me to visit the WoW tech forums, coz I have the latest drivers and have done everything that could be done to tweak my network settings. And with that lag, I prolly can't even kill a lvl 5 boar at lvl 18. I wonder what machines they use for thier servers, 486 ? or 386? u may even find the obsolete machine u threw out 2 years ago there.

That's the main reason I quit WoW. The game was still fun for me, but the servers ruined it. Blizzard is not equipped to handle the success of their own games.

It depends what server you are on, and even then, I dont think all of the high pop have horrible lag. You should try creating a character on Frostwolf (not sure if FW is still horrible after the server transfer) or on Frostmane where I currently am. It seems almost every other day you cant log in during prime time hours becuase the log in doesnt let you past authentication.

Blizzard really f'd up the server transfer. Take a look at the Frostmane forum. Instead of players blaming Blizzard, they are turning on eachother telling Frostwolf players its their fault. How wonderful Blizzard must feel that they dont take any blame at all.

It sounds like u r having problems with a router, firewall or your ISP.
Its funny how people quickly blame anything or anyone. Its like this guy who complained about his watch and when CSR asked him whats was the problem he said watch stopped working after he bathed in it. CST told him he was not supposed to do it becuase it wasnt waterproof. To that the guy answered
"What are you saying? I could bathe with my previous watch without a problem!"

3k ping is way way out of the ordinary. You gotta play around network, firewall or router settings. Are you downloading anything while you play? Do you have the same ping on other WoW servers? Do you use any mods? Do you eat vanilla ice cream before you sit to play WoW?

    Peace

What type of PC do you have? and are you using a hardware router? or software router? Having lag that bad is very rare for me and I play on a high pop server. Most of the players that have serious latency issues with wow normally are downloading, BAD LUCK, Anti Virus software running in the background, or using low end PC's. Granted, yes sometimes you can get 3k in WoW but I have a guild with over 70 members and none of us lag that bad at all, even in MC raids or UBRS raids. I have to agree with the previous poster, it might be your ISP or you could be downloading more porn than your connection can handle.

    <-- Never over 200ms latency.

Change server. You might be on a server that is too far away from where you live. Like I mean, if you live in Eastern North America, DON'T JOIN A WESTERN SERVER!

Oh and BTW, I play on Earthen Ring... never over 200ms, we used to be a Medium pop server, now we're a FULL SERVER!!! Yes, with even Queue line-ups on peak hours... still never over 200ms latency. Oh... cause I'm on an Eastern North America server!

Periodically I have some lag, I don't think I've seen 3k pings since early after release.  And I have a crappy ISP, I commonly see 300 ms pings to my first hop at the ISP, wow still plays great for me.

I haven't had any real lag issues in a few months. Occasionally I lag a little in IF, but otherwise the game runs smooth. I play on Azgalor (High PvP Server) and Draenor (Medium PvE Server).

    What are you specs?

Just like every other game, stuff happens.  The servers are fine, you are just having a bit of bad luck, and in most cases it's not the server, but your firewall/router/connection/ISP 99.9% of the time.  Also there are different server hubs, US server hubs are placed in 3 different time zones, so if you're playing on an east coast server from Cali or the west coast, then yes, you may have more issues than trying to play on a west coast server.

I have read alot about the server problems of WOW (have yet to play it). As I like to solo I assume my best bet is to find an unpopulated server. Is there going to be any disadvantage to my gameplay if I do this?

Yeah I also have very little lag...the highest lag I ever get is like 400 Ms but usually it's around 100 ms which doesn't really effect me.

its not the wow servers its YOU! do you really think everyone has 3k ping?? lol my ping on average is about 40-60, why is yours 3k??? i dont know but its not blizzards fault. just like a previous poster or 2 said you are prolly behind a firewall or router or something...

I have never had any real lag on WoW servers. The servers are very good. It is most likely your computer that is the issue. You have a low frame rate, which is similar to the effects of lag, but basicly your computer can't handle the game, and yes it will influence your latency(ping).

The only problem with the WOW servers is that there are too many of them. And they keep making more of them creating smaller and smaller realm populations.

The only bad thing I can see with unpoped servers are

    - sometimes its hard to find an instance group (especialy on horde side)

    - economy is not very friendly to new players, prices are usualy high. Which is good if u sell items or gathered resources. But if you are item dependant person, like a rogue or a paladin, then you will pay a lot of cash for some crappy item you could of bought half price on other server

I play on Burning Blade and Burning Legion (both High Population PVP servers) and my ping in IF is hardly 100ms.  If you haven't already, I would suggest running Spybot on your PC to remove any unwanted programs that may be using bandwidth.

Actually the servers for WoW are not fine. Over the past 2 weeks on my server, its almost every other day that you cannot log on during prime time. The log-in doesnt go past the authentication screen. Also fairly frequently latency goes way up, talking about 2000+, when I average around 50. The servers for WoW really arent fine. I have tried 3 different servers, all in my time zone, and all 3 have had these problems. In WoW, 99.9% of the time its not the gamers equipment. That sounds just like Blizzard, who cant admit when they have a problem, but just say its gamers hardware.

Well if only you or only very few people have these problems, that realy means that the problem is with YOU, not servers.

High latencies is a indication of problems with you connection/ISP. Server lag is noticed by combat locking up, slow loot, slow mailbox while the latencies stay normal. I haven't had many problems with my server. There have been some periods where it has been really overloaded.

Other games like Eq2 never have the same amount of people in a zone like Wow has. If a zone get's more than a certain number of people Eq2 will create a second zone. If there are 500 players in IF there will be 500 people, while in other games the 500 will be split over IF 1, IF 2 and so on. Something that kills the immersion, but prevents some of the lag. And remember the other games have never been under the same load as Wow has been. I wonder how their servers would behave with 4 million subscribers.

Yes WOW has lagged since start up and always will. Blizzard is more concerned with profit than providing you a lag free game experience.  them Medium and low population servers have less lag in general.

this topic has been run dry. yes, we know there are some problems on some of the servers. all the ones i have been on, my max ping ever was like 250. so, get a better graphics card or internet connection instead of coming to the message boards to cry. ::::16::
