This chart will give you a rough idea of which mobile GPUs will provide the best performance for GW2:

The chart may not include the very latest mobile GPUs, so you may need to compare some benchmarks for other games to get an idea of relative performance.

    My laptop specs(hp):

    i5 2.3 Ghz

    HD 6770m 2GB

    4gb ddr3 ram

I tried playing the beta on it and I was getting like 40-45 fps on med-high settings while questing. The laptop costed me 650€ 6 months ago or so.

you cant rlly tell anything yet becuz gw2 uses cpu only atm..but i use i7 2.2 ghz (3.6 with turboboost on) (its like avarage of 3.2 if i play games), 8 gb ram and an GT555M ...i played on 1920*1080, EVERYTHING up max. , im EU andi was playing on an US server and i was in wvwvw and never came below 25 fps.. and i surely had major amount of particle effects during major wvw rampages :P

since fps can only get better from now on im happy  :D

but untill gw2 optimalises things..noone can tell the requirements for sure

You are right, but atleast it should be better and better for each beta weekend. So if one of the laptops i mentioned up there works, and runs it fine, then it should be running better and better. Hopefully :-)

overall i find going with the 15" screen and the 540m will save you almost $1000. for laptops, it's so expensive to get the higher level hardware.

  • goouiegoouie Member Posts: 44

I am not sure if you mentioned how much your wanting to spend on your laptop, you can go with the 520,525 or 540m cards and it will play the game but if you spend a little more money and go up to the gtx series you will be able to run the game at higher settings. Its all personal preference. The game looks great even at low settings, so if you dont care about all the detail in the game and want high FPS performance then buy a laptop for around 600 - 850 bucks. My wife has an Asus G74 with the 560GTX and the game looked great in the Beta and it was CPU capped and wasnt even using everyones video cards .

Im doing Middle gaphics  steady with Nvidia GT555. Sometimes I can up to high but FPS drops so it feels  a litle bit laggy. Anyways I do not find the graphics look much better between high and low.

Remember to buy a gaming laptop. I bought mine as an entertainment. Had temperatures in the laptop for up to 88 degrees playing gw2. Broke after a month.... I wont have it fixxed until 23 May. FML

Not buying anything yet. At the moments these are in the price range i can afford

How are they compaired to each other and GW 2. Remember i have a desktop i play on at home. This is only if i need to go to a friend and play, or if there's something on tv while i play, and travel to work. Are they ok for GW 2? which one is best, and would i be able to run with medium graphic with an ok framerate? :-)

Why not check this site which has all the possible CPU and GPU benchmarks for laptop? http://www.notebookcheck.net/

Also, have in mind that in general, "regular" laptops are more prone to overheating than "gaming" laptops, especially if they are equipped with higher performance components. Overheating=significant drop in performance.

number 2 has about my stats..which means you can run gw2 with everything on max as long as keep antialiasing low, join wvwvw...and still have above 30 fps (surely more once its optimised)...at least...thats what i get..when playing on a gw2 server made for western US while living in EU...and it only can get better..i hope :D

even without the optimising that needs to be done i had 30 fps while recording questing with fraps while at 1920*1080

number 1 is still good, but ofc. itll perform less then number 2 at gw2

p.s. never believe benchmarks..benchmarks told me i couldnt even play crysis 2 on max without lag...i downloaded and no lag at all..there benchmark people!! eat that!

I would consider also Lenovo Y470. It has Nvidia Geforce GT 555M, only 14" and 4.9 pounds. It is relatively light, still moreless mobile and very good gaming potential in its price range (I have never seen better price for the laptop with this graphic card ).

    Just my 2 cents.

    You need to research.

Even some gaming laptops are crap. Many manufactureres have low quality gaming laptops. overheating / dust / battery deefficency / noise /  other problems.. there is a lot to take in.

you want to get something with a warranty. 15% of all laptops sold have a failure rate within two years of their purchase, even those that costs over 2 grand.

Asus, Sony, and Apple are the three most stable brands I personally know. Samsung, Lenovo and HP also offer high end models of good quality, but they also offer a lot of low quality models that just suck.

I can't speak on Clevo, Toshiba, LG, Dell, and so on... But all of them have faults, and no matter which brand you pick there is no certainty. Each manufac has crappy models.

So nVidia GeForce GT 630M should be a good card?

Yes it will prob be good enough for GW2

As long as you dont get a laptop with a HD resolution screen.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Because HD resolution screen will tax your hardware more than 1600x900 screen. 30% more pixels?

If it has to be between those two then the Asus hands down.  The fact both those systems are retailing for a similar price is a joke in and of itself.  Number 1 will be the better on the go laptop (mean unplugged) but as a primary gaming laptop (these are  usually plugged in anyways as gaming kills battery life) the Asus will smoke the HP in just about all categories.  That said IF you are looking for something around that price range and you decide the Asus will meet your needs I would suggest you look at their gaming laptop line, the "G series" (G53, G73, G74 or the new G75).  These will offer a better bang for your buck and as was previously mentioned, fall into the gaming laptop line which generally means the case it better suited for the heat levels they will produce.  Just a thought.

I personally own the G73JH (Best Buy version) which I picked up for $1200 when it was released a number of years ago and it still plays all modern games at near max settings with decent framerates (30-60FPS).  This is of course due in part to the mobile GPU, Radeon HD5870 Mobility.  That card is nearly equal to the desktop HD5770, while not a top of the line card by desktop standards, it's ability to play modern games is undeniable.  Now imagine that or better (with the G74 or G75 series) with current laptops and you get the idea.

This one is very expensive. Worth it? Its double the price. Can't get a G serie. Cous i'm buying in a special shop where i pay every month

Just talked with the shop. He said it was made for all the newest games, and has a special cooling system in it, so you can basicly play 24/7 without getting hot. Even tho it's not a G serie, he said it was made for gaming only. Hmm

Just stopped in to say I'm verry happy with my Clevo. The thing with Clevo is doing your research into which model you want and then finding the retailer you want to use. Clevo are mainly a customized gaming laptop.  I cant speak as to how they hold up longterm yet but with a good warrenty you will be fine. With my laptop if it was going to overheat it would have by now. I have run games on it for 15hrs at a time and not had a single heat issue. That was with gtx560m's in SLI. Granted the fans are somewhat loud when at full speed but only more taxing games like crysis2 ever made me turn the fans up to max.

Take what I am saying with a grain of salt to. My laptop is an 18in. beast that weighs 12lbs (its a desktop replacement basically) with many, many fans. I can not speak to smaller clevo's on quality.
