Anyone play the beta over a 3G connection?

styles74styles74 Member Posts: 222

I was going to post this on the official D3 forums, but I don't have a WoW toon that's level 10 WoW (anymore)... (need to grind a toon to level 10 - for the VERY LAST TIME.)

Just wondering if anyone played D3 over a cell phone 3G connection (with the phone acting as a WiFi connection).

I'm going to be travelling a week after D3 comes out, and I don't want to miss a single friggin day.

There is 4G in some areas of where i'm going... so for sure I can play there.

Not sure if 3G is gonna be enough though... Anyone have an idea?

Won't be the biggest help, but I did play on the worst DSL connection I could imagine and there were 0 hiccups or lag issues.  This was non coop solo.  It seems to run on some pretty slow connections for the solo play.

The difference in your case, is the fact that it's a solid DSL line, meaning it's supposedly "solid data transfer" where as the 3G connections in general suffer from packetloss, thus usually "cutting" the connection pretty much constantly, doesn't really bother internet browsing or downloading, but games which require constant connection (MMORPG's, Online FPS etc.) 3G connections are generally really really bad!

ps. this is personal experience as 3G connections (3G-usb sticks) tend to be given as an "extra" ontop when you get a DSL connection, for the laptop and whatnot.

They suffice for basic surfing, emailing and youtube, but any online-game, they're generally really bad with tons of lag related freezes etc.

http://neocron-game.com/ - now totally F2P no cash-shops or micro transactions at all.

So basically I'm in store for a really kick @ss experience.

It's not even a 3G-USB stick either.. it's a 3G phone acting in WiFi mode to a laptop.  This isn't looking to promising.

I play SWTOR on my 3G and get pretty good results. Pretty sure this won't be any different.

Cool... Thanks for the input on your experience FF.  I'm still holding on to hope that I might be able to borrow a 4G Verizon USB Stick from work....

Traveling I had problems as I lost 3g a lot of the time or it was weak signal, but as long as your signal is decent and you aren't moving, you'll be good.

I had to use my phone for a bit, because of a powerfailure on my room (don't ask). When my connection was stable (I don't have the best reception at home) I could play pretty much without lag. Not much data is being sent/recieved it appears. Playing with two friends went also pretty good.

I use a 3G usb stick that connects with HSPA+ and no problems with Online gaming...

Using a Mobile Phone the best connection you will get is HSDPA/ WCDMA which is very crap for online gaming...

Best bet is to take a USB stick with ya... Plus if you use your Mobile and someone phones you, you get disconnected...

Thanks Meta... I'm trying to get a Verizon 4G USB stick for the week I'm on vacation, and if not supposedly i can pay $ 50.00 for the week to have access to wireless (in the condo - which I'm sure should do the job).
