One of the best mmos I have ever played! But I can't play it long term....

I loved every moment that I spent with Rift from my climb level 1-20. The classes were original, the Rift concept was exciting and dynamic braking the monotonous quest game play that plagues so many other mmos. The community was very kind and helpful as well.
I had a wonderful time playing Rift...but I just cannot play this game long term because I absolutely HATE the art style they went with.
For me, this is one of the ugliest mmos I have ever played. The character creator showcases what looks to be the most deformed human and elf type characters I have ever seen.
Additionally, the armor sets, even the end game armors look lackluster, and just plain boring and uninspring. There is nothing "Cool" for me to strive for in terms of aesthetics.
This is the first time in my many years of mmo gaming that visual style became a deciding factor in a game that I absolutely had a great time with. The actual gameplay is outstanding, and I would recommend it to anyone hands down.
I just wish the games art style didn't want to make me loose my lunch at every turn.
Such a shame.
It is actually emotionally painful for me to say I won't be playing Rift because I genuinely loved the community and the game itself. But I just cannot get past the horrendous art style.
God I wish I could, but I just cannot.

Ugliest MMOs?

Personally I think Rift is STILL one of the best looking MMO's out there.
I love the look of rift, love the art style. I love the armor too, far more than any of these other recent mmorpgs with over the top armor styles and 3 foot tall shoulders. To each their own.
You should try RIFT and see for yourself.
You're right, the armour & art style of pretty much everything is crap IMO. That's probably the number one reason I left. That and it just felt like a hueg WoW clone, with added "Rifts" which are just glorified spawns.
I moved to TERA. Has MUCH better looking endgame armour. Trust me.
I totally understand where you are coming from. There is something about the art and style of rift that has always put me off. Don't get me wrong the game is beautifully rendered, and some of the landscapes are very nice. But something about the character models specifically that I just don't dig.
After leveling to 50 and spending a few months doing the lower level raids and warfronts I found myself altogether burned out on it. I think the art and style had some play in that.
Once you get passed the free trial The armor in this game is pretty bad ass. I do not agree with the OP.

RIFT is the best looking MMO out there IMO.
The art style is amazing and very, hmmm fantasy kind in a good way.
If you want to see some great game play from many zones and armor and weapons, mounts, then follow this LP.
Some of the artwork and architecture inside Hammerknell is some of the best looking I have ever seen in a computer game. It's just amazing in places.
The low level armor in the game looks horrible, just like almost every other MMO. As for the end game armor? Please..
