I am still one of the old fashioned players who enjoys hanging out in the world more than in dungeons. I think that the paragraph on the WoW pizza might be a little misconstrued because it is clear that a lot of MoP material is of course the new areas.

It does seem though that a lot of the newer features are based around instances, and though it can be fun to have lots of minigames, it is sad that Blizzard does not concentrate even more on what made WoW originally great in many peoples' eyes: the world itself. After all, it is World of Warcraft....

Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.

Challenge Mode is the single best addition to WoW coming in MoP, in my opinion. It will not cater to majority of players. To do good here you will need a perfect 5man setup. However that's not a huge issue since you can start doing challenges with your quest gear, there is no need to gear up. I see myself running challenge modes with a hardcore group of 5, most likely playing on another character than my main, just so we can have the very best setup. Really looking forward to this one.

And this is different how? They are just doing it in a different way.

The author simply doesn't understand that other MMOs (before WoW) had a LARGE amount of things to do.  Not all of which were there for everyone.  Challenge mode dungeons are not only an additional activity added to the game.  They server 2 other major purposes for the MoP expansion.  1) They bring together the server community.  Challenge Mode dungeons will be for groups made on the server (or Bnet friend's lists).  These are not for the LFD tool (at least in the beginning).  These dungeons are there to fill the gaping hole left when the LFD tool was added.

and 2) Because of the nature of the "removal" of gear being a factor with these dungeons, Blizzard has finally found a way to keep dungeon's relevant throughout the entirety of an expansion cycle.  In Classic they did this with resistance gear and reputation requirements.  In TBC we saw similar ideals with the addition of heroic badges.  In Wrath and Cata we saw a removal of a large portion of the gear grind with the addition of second and third tier dungeons designed to quickly elevate player gear levels to the level of new raids.  Combine this with the much quicker and streamlined design of dungeons that appeared in both late Wrath and late Cataclysm, you end up with people having no desire to participate in this content.  By removing the gear grind and making it about skill and knowledge they have created "challenging" content that will continue to be challenging through the entire lifespan of the expansion.
