I never understood why people speak so highly of DAoC PvP.

Ultimately, it's still just PvP in a dedicated area. I yearn for something much more. I want meaning for PvP within the ENTIRE GAME.

This is the best game ever...the best pvp ever...the only game that delivered pvp FOR ME for more then 3 years....the game where ive played FFA PVP....the game that brought real wars between guilds on Mordred (FFA Server)...the game that made me park alts in keep to defend easily while my main char was in another place...the game with players that were calling you during the nite: "Wake up, we are under attack"....the game where after a major fight your body was shacking.

Imagine being able with full group of skilled pvpers to farm a guild of 20 people that were getting ready to farm some open world dragon.

This is by far my 1st game for me and the best game who tought me that "Everyone is KOS" is really fun.

God Bless you DAOC Team, God Bless the ones that work on DAOC 2 :)

And this is the 1st post ive made since 2004..for the only game worth mentioned atm :)

    See EVE.

For what it offers, DAOC was a remarkable experience (still is I suppose).

I preferred to play on the FFA (red) servers however I was part of a minority unfortunately.

MmoDad: Daoc had 2 Free for all servers, Mordred and Andred where you could PvP all over the game. The entire game was a FFA area where you could kill any1 but your guildies...and that was awesome :)

Kyleran, who were you on Mordred/Andred and with what guild have you played ?

  • GreeferGreefer Member UncommonPosts: 66

DAoC PVP was watered down .. except on Mordred.

The pvp there was some of the best I have ever had in a long line of PVP titles.

Yes I didnt fully loot people, but getting gold drops and realm points was pretty fun and made it worth while.

Never played the normal pvp rules DAoC servers mainly because I dont like battle grounds and the idea of not being able to chat with people of other factions seemed HORRIBLE to me.

I"ll be the first person to say Im not a huge fan of pvp, however, DAoC was some really fun pvp in my eyes. It was very delightful and just a fun experience for me and it opened me up to pvp in games after that.  Plus it was always fun to see in the chat box.....

"PlayerOne was just killed by Priest".. then you had to watch your back for PlayerOne to come back and try to kill you specifically to make them feel better hehe. (yes, my name was Priest *smile*.)

This is exciting, I'll def be watching this tonight. Some of the comments above get the old nostalgia bug going , Andred /Mordred were so rage inducing sometimes but victory was so sweet. Plus you'd frequently fight the same people over and over for months so rivalrys could really flourish.

  • HefaistossHefaistoss Member UncommonPosts: 5

No other game will ever have this ammount of races/classes combo. :)

Well, see, this is where you don't understand the concept of (normal) DAoC:

The idea is community, not free for all.

I mean, why would you fight with your buddy? For the fun of it? Fine... it's called duelling and yes, is in DAoC within the realms.

But the actual enemy is sitting out in the battlegrounds! They are the guys you want to beat to pulp. And thanks to DAoC's system getting out of the battlegrounds and into the other realms was pretty much not happening, so, one more reason why all over the place PvP wasn't needed.

Might be that I'm looking at this from a more civilized time of MMOs though... *shrug*

Please try to see if someone has the courage to discuss the Origin server and why something so basic could not be given to the remaining loyal community.

    Thank you.

First and apparently last (unless Elder Scrolls Online pulls it off) mmorpg to have dedicated realms that each had their own end game without any cheap forced quest crossovers from other factions.  Each faction was unto itself, unless that player specifically chose to explore the persistant pvp areas where castles contained relics that affected the abilities of every player in the game.

Realm pride for defending one's realm and her castles was unique to the Dark Age experience.  All other pvp games are either free for all (this is to you Mordred folks as well :)), or 2 factions. In today's pvp games, you are lucky if anyone says hello.  No one cares about anyone, and as in instanced pvp, why even bother to know someone's name when chance are you'll never see them again?

People play games with simple ladder rankings, are forced to fight mirror images of their races and classes, and experience relatively small worlds or worlds that are nearly barren until you reach "end game."  Dark Age involves an entire community of players in a constant struggle for territorial domination in a persistant non-instanced environment.

There are 44 classes and 24 (27?) races, spread across three factions.  Many classes have similarities but they all have their strength and weaknesses because pvp in DAoC is a team effort (though some folks try very hard to solo everyone else lol).

Anyway - nothing of this quality and depth has ever been done.  There's one reason why folks see this as they do (at least those who experienced it fully).

what was the event, after all, please?

Never argue with an idiot, he'll drag you down to his level and then beat you up with experience.

  • deathangelldeathangell Member CommonPosts: 85

yea watered down on most servers but andred and mordred it was pvp everywhere except for major cities so if u really wanted to know the feel of pvp everywhere the fear of death at every corner then DAOC is and forever will be the first of its kind.
