This game...wait for it...is gonna be...wait for it...EPIC! Don't believe the haters, TOR/WOW/FPS fanboys,[mod edit]. It truly is a breath of fresh air!
Agree. I've been waiting for this type of game world for years. I'm really tired of all this high fantasy with elves, wizards, pointy hats and such. SWTOR had all the potential to come out of that pattern but as their goal was to copy WoW as much as possible to be safe they failed. TOR was a filler anyway for me while waiting for TSW so no biggie

yes it is absolutely thrilling to see a non fantasy setting game that is both fresh and unique.
Cant wait for this and im not usually one to go for themepark games as you can probally see from other psots on here..
The world setting for TSW hooked me at an early stage, plus i have really enjoyed Funcoms other games so I know this will be just as good if not better than the others..
I think the real wrold setting will be a breath of fresh air for the themepark MMO for me and might jsut be able to keep me playing long term...
I'm excited to meet the niche community of TSW. After we wade through all the pay2troll people.
Kind of hoped that GW2 would have come out sooner to get rid of GW2 trolls in very forum imaginable. Sigh, still months until it's launch so we'll have plenty of GW2 fanbois spitting poison in every direction. Until after GW2 launch of course when ANet spell wears off and fanbois target their former puppet master

I have some doubts about the game's overall execution, but I hope it enjoys some popularity. If it struggles there will inevitably be a perceived taint to the setting as a viable MMO setting -- "They tried that with the TSW and it failed" -- regardless of the game's actual problems.
Well, Iam big fan of fantasy settings but it is nice to finally have mmo that is different in style and setting. All those regular fantasy characters are becoming a little bit bored (thats why Arenanet is mixing with GW2) and SWTOR was a big let down, even it did have different races and classes (who didn want to play with jedi or sith). Anyway, best of to TSW, I will definitely give it a try.
lol last time i checked there were a few titles that were not elves galore ect?
Yeah, i thought the same thing, apparently the OP missed most of them.
I'm hoping that TSW brings to the table more originality than what races we do/do not get to play.
Well, looks like we'll soon find out.

Unfortunately for TSW fans you get an earlier release than the game should have had and are going to get an unfinished and inferior product that will leave the fudgecom fanbois crying as loud as swtor fanbois if not worse..
Its funcom combined with EA so it is gauranteed to be incomplete and shallow at mid game and beyond..
I know exactly what i am getting with GW2 and it doesnt require a monthly fee to boot and neither will the secret world when it goes f2p sometime in 2014..
And yet the animation is pretty bad, feels like plaing some old PS2 games.
A breath of fresh air? People said the same about SWTOR and look how that ended up as.
Game will be epic huh? Based off a glimps of a beta? Why does this sond so familiar... ohhh yes the same was said about SWTOR also.
I'll take the elves, dwarves, and trolls anyday since that actually brough divirsity amougst playable races than everyone being the exact same.
Classical pointless hype thread.
Animations were placeholders. In this vid you can see that they added more caster animations, instead of the 'hand clapping' for all spells they had before, which looks a lot better in my opinion:

Seems a bit odd that a game with no body type or racial variety has the least developed animations, thinking back to WoW at launch with Tauren, forsaken, gnome, throll, human, dwarf...
Keeping my hopes in check for this, but I admit the modern setting is what has me interested. Less traditional combat + less traditional setting almost guarantees I'll at least enjoy my time in the beta. Will it be enjoyable enough buy? That I dunno, yet.

Tho we still have to wait and see.
There might be tights and there is always trolls but definately no elves.

The concept of the setting is fabulous IMO.

Elves, Trolls, Dragons, etc. are mythological creatures. We already saw a dragon-like creature in one of their videos.

Having re watched that video; indeed the animations are better which only means good things for the game.

I don't know... I'm looking forward to the game, and those animations still looked pretty uninspired to me.

Don't measure a game by it's setting/location. It's the stories that make a world and the gameplay that makes a game.
