First, I find it odd that you would complain that the game is unrealistic because they put real world things into the game. Wouldn't that make the game too realistic?

Second, Warcraft gets criticized for copying other games, so I am glad that, even to this day, you can find things in World of Warcraft that you won't find in other games.

That isn't the worst of it though, there is even MORE unrealistic "features" than just Pandas.

Then I made an Orc, because I thought maybe that would be better...but if you run up the canyon to Orgrimmar, you see "Catscratch" and then "Fever"...yeah...two NPCs named that. More real world influences put into the game.

Then there are Tauren. Whoever heard of cows being able to walk on two legs? They are even more unrealistic than pandas, but I guess they fit the WoW lore? It would be better if they were more like Minotaurs or something.

That is just from first impressions of WoW...so many unrealistic things, even worse than Pandas which are hilarious as it it is.

I don't understand why no one said how unrealistic WoW already is...I could live with Pandas that everyone complains about, but putting CSI into the game? Catscratch fever? That is even worse.

Definitely not a very realistic game, and not like Warcraft at all.

Normally, I think trolls are like people who laugh hysterically at their own jokes.  This one, however, made me smile.  10/10 my friend.  You apparently hooked quite a few posters, too.

Sometimes after release of WoW, Warcraft turned from a semi-serious franchise to one of constant comical, goofiness.

I also understood the OP. To me its all about immersion. I want to be in first person always. If I am wearing a helm I want my field of view obstructed a little. If I get hit in the arm with a sword I want it to be harder to swing my sword until I bandage that area. I dont want to see NPCs with celebrity names. I want to get hungry and thirsty and die lest I find food to eat. I dont want to insta-port into dungeons. I dont want an in-game map unless I buy one that I or another player created in-game, and I definately dont want a quest location showing on them. I want to move slower if Im climbing a hill. I dont want a cash shop that gives me items that came from somewhere my character didnt even know existed. I dont want general chat channels, just say and yell because its unrealistic.

I could go on and on.

EDIT: I am not anti-wow. It certainly has its fans. I just wish more developers would concentrate on the above ideas. I wish well and continued fun to all people who enjoy wow. Its not me to bash a game. I am just stating what I like seeing in an MMO.

You make very good points, I think that is why there is so many different games out there. I like the easter eggs and the odd humor or WoW but that doesn't mean everyone will.

I would love to see more well made sandbox games just to counter act the Theme Park games and give me the choice of what to play. When I play WoW I want Wow, but that doesn't mean I want everygame to be WoW, When I try other games I want them to be different.

I love Skyrim and it's more realist approach, give me that in an MMO. (and I will also go back now and then and enjoy the offbeat humor of WoW as well, there is room for both)

WoW takes more Intelligence to play & enjoy than most MMO's because they add these real world references, they simply wash over most players.  True story.

I feel bad for everyone here, so let me lay down some enlightenment, like some sort of internet diety, a Forum Buddha if you will.  I'll try to use simple, comfortable words in my explanation, much like our nation's newspapers.

The OP thinks that it is absurd for people to complain about the upcoming expansion for WoW being unrealistic, silly, immersion-breaking, etc. due to its inclusion of a panda race.  This is because WoW has had a plethora...er...I should say "a whole bunch" of unrealistic, silly, and immersion-breaking content from day one, and that has never changed.

The entire original post was made tongue-in-cheek to highlight this.

There, I've done my good deed for the day.

Ofc dude. Not realistic compared to our real life status ,but compared to casual lore of rpg's that placed some quality standards.

Anwy the op is finding the taurens unfitting in medieval fantasy game but there are way more ridiculous things in wow. I shall also agree with the Op about pandas as playble toons it may win the most ridiculous character award in mmorpg genre.

WoW went from realistic or at least immerse to unrealistic or at least unimmerse with the LFD's and fast leveling all so Blizzard can rush you to BUY EXPANSIONS !!!!

It's all about expansions not end game....It's only a trick

  • CatbertzCatbertz Member Posts: 23

I actually completely agree with the OP....

You know what really got me about WoW though?.... When I recieved a dragon in my mailbox.... that was the final straw.

Tell me about the realisitic mmorpgs u played before?

  • TridianTridian Member UncommonPosts: 273

I was kind of hoping that the post was all satire. It was funny, but it didnt stop and the way it ended made me wonder. Srsly?

I'm wondering if this is an understated sarcasm post...possibly mocking something. Perhaps realism in games?

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Of course it is.  We've got 4 pages of replies from people who are taking the OP seriously.  Hell, we even had one guy agreeing with him and taking up the fight for him.  It's hilarious.

I think there has been a total of maybe 3 or 4 people on this thread who figured out the OP wasn't serious.  The rest of you...LOL.

    LOL.....mmorgp....game.....World of Warcraft...orcs, tauren....unrealistic!!??     Who'da thunk??

  • DragonantisDragonantis Member UncommonPosts: 974

I dont think realisim came to mind when they created WoW tbh...

Its a game with talking cows, space goats, scruffy Orcs, and little gnomes with pink hair.

I dunno why you were looking for realism in a fantasy MMORPG.

Might wanna try an MMO based closer to our world for realism.

lol wonder what he would of done on April fools day in Area 51 looking for molder and scully so you could get the non existant tin foil hat plans for engineering

Seems to me that either the OP is a Poe, or they're miscommunicating their point, mistaking "realism" with the fantasy going too over the top for their taste.

I could certainly see WoW being the latter for some people, but a more "realistic" game like LotRO is still far from real.  I don't think you can fit 12 peices of armor into a side pouch.  Or fling enough arrows into the air in a few seconds to hit everyone in a 20 meter radius.

But yeah, there's elements of WoW that go beyond traditional fantasy:  Steampunk elements being the first thing that comes to mind.

If you want reality walk outside.  Because games are not reality.  Sorry to break it to you, friend.

I'm not a fan of WoW but really?  You are playing a game with orcs, elves, and magic and complaining about realism.  I hope that you are not serious with this post.

Well....I actually have not seen it myself.  But I read it on facebook and it's trending on twitter so yeah...it must be true.

This is exactly what the OP meant (I think)... however the terms realistic/unrealistic were misused (or misinterpreted).

When I want realism I play Pac-Man, you know, the game where that... thing... eats ghosts and  white dots. Based on true events. Pac-man is real image

If written tongue-in-cheek, this is a pretty good post. However, if serious, OP is as stupid as they come. For the sake of balance, I will divulge that I don't even play WoW and I blame it for many of the current woes of MMORPG's in general.

As an aside, my wife wouldn't play WoW because of the cartoonish graphics. They bothered me at first, but I actually came to enjoy them and miss them somewhat since I quit.

Trammies need to stop polluting the MMORPG landscape. They already have enough games in which to emote hugs and sell garbage by the banks.

I dunno, I kinda doubt it's real. You can't believe everything you hear on the internet, and when something is trending so hard, it's usually a meme.

But I took the time to compile a list of realistic MMO's:

    end.
