Totally false rumor, TERA did not flop in asia!

LordDevilLordDevil Member UncommonPosts: 253

Guys stop bringing wrong information about the game in here - if you haven't confirmed it yourself. I have a girlfriend from korea and the game didn't flop! They just had a tough start. The game was hyped a lot and had the best launch of a MMO with the most concurrent users ever (thus so many servers at the beginning). Since the game is pretty easy to go to max level (koreans are hardcore grinders), the politics system, hard mode inis etc. and most of the PvP rules were not implemented by that time (also they had several issues with hacks). So people got bored fast and returned back to Aion - as always the game was released a little too early, so lost a lot of initial customers.

However now a year after, they have a lot more content - politics, guild wars, nexus etc. ! And since we have this from start, the game will do alot better here in the western.

Oh and BTW 15 server there is still a lot, because TERA servers can hold a lot of people due to the very large world and the channels. Just look on one of our German PvP servers, we now have over 600 guilds registered ... the top most have over 200 members!

Just wanted to say this because its ridiculous how much wrong information about this rumor is going through the internet :)

So your only "reliable" source of information is your "korean girlfriend" which is neither living currently in korea and playing mmos hardcore apparently.

Your evidence for the state of the Asian market is a german pvp server filled with twinks and twinkguilds.

Either you have seriously zero clue about korean culture or you are just bad at making posts?

    I'm convinced...not.
In case you are not just trolling badly ...like real bad.

"Fail" can mean > not number one | > not maintained it's userbase | > whatever reading comprehension you lack.

Now go and enjoy TERA it's a good game!

Sorry but you don't need to get convinced... thats just some straight facts. My girlfriend is actually living in Seoul...  and she is playing there. So yeah I now a lot more about the situation than some people who try to tell that the game was a "fail" in Asia. Which it wasn't. Just because they had to merge servers because start was huge success, but subscription drop afterwards due to no real end game content, sounds pretty familiar to me... !

But yeah we all know what happens with facts if they get in the right mouth, aren't we? :)

No need to play Tera if someone doesn't like it, I can just say that the game is totally healthy and the population is currently growing - just through word of mouth... - so I am pretty impressed, because 2 month ago I didn't even know about Tera and I haven't played any good MMO the last years. So yeah it was even a big surprise for me too... - the good reviews and good sale numbers here in europe just approve this.

Surely we can't judge the future yet, but guild wars, politics and drama usually have much longer lasting effects than stupid battlegrounds with points and ranks...

a friend of my cousins husbands nephews oldest brother who happens to work for the developers of TERA said blah blah blah.... honestly who cares? you like the game good for you like all the people over at SWTOR who get all butthurt when people bash their game every single game ever made has haters and fanboys just the nature of video games people really need to get over it.

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If this guy calculation is correct : http://tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums/general-discussion/topics/Ho-many-copies-of-this-game-has-been-sold-so-far

Than I would say Tera is actually very successful.

but until eme release the official numbers, no one really knows, and we know from past experience that if a company don't release the numbers of copies sold after launch, than it most probably not really doing that well

yes tera did fail there, main complain grind, lack of content, several bugs and exploits being used, aion is still the main MMO there.

but like I said I give tera 1 year and half till it become F2P

The good thing is since tera wasnt really hyped (at least I didn't know about this game - just got recommended by a friend) .... so it could start small and is now steadily increasing... something that is much better publicity wise than the other way around ;)  Here in europe it is currently ranked #1 in last weeks sale statistics (taken from mediacontrol).

Tera is pretty good, but op take the fail talk with a pinch of salt, NcSoft employee's  bitching thats all it is.

    Playing: FFXIV
Future: wishing for SWG 2, World of Warcraft Classic
Played: Most current and extinct MMO's - 18 Years in....

    Interesting Fact - I own 27 Tarantula's

Tera will do fine until GW2 comes out. I know Im going to be swapping to GW2. Plus I dont think flop in Asia = flop in Western market. Aion is number1 over there, is it over here? Is our number1 game even in thier top10? Id say dont cross the markets thinking itll be the same, most likely wont.

Yeah NCSoft is more than angry at bluehole studios... they hurt their sales a lot! On the other hand it gives them some free publicity.

You know, you fail at basic trolling. You'd never heard of tera 2 months ago and now suddenly your girlfriend from seoul knows everything about tera up fgrom 2009? eh.

Yeah i just response for "teh lulz". Failtroll is fail.

  • LordDevilLordDevil Member UncommonPosts: 253

Lol who is the troll here !? Sorry but the last game I played with her together was Aion a long time ago.. and as I said... there wasn't any MMOs worth playing out there the last 2 years... ! And yeah Tera came totally suprising for me... it was a friend who told me and after that I contacted her again, because I wondered why it didn't do well in korea... - so she explained me her view - that's all, no more, no less.

But hey, no need to believe me, if that makes you happy, just believe the rumors... ;)

No reading comperison skill? The OP already addressed all those thing as LAUNCH issue which has long been fixed. What so if its not the number 1 most played its fail? That means every game beside WoW in the west is a fail including GW2, SWTOR, and every other game but none of them will top WoW in term of subs. Are they all fail to than?

Also seriously if you just like google game ranking in korea Tera is like 3-5th most played mmorpg in Korean.

Tera didn't fail in Asia but it certanly didn't live up to the hype. it was simply to easy to reach max level and there was nothing to do once you got there. the majority of Asians got to end level in the first month and then left because they got bored ( Tortanic anyone?). as content was added a lot of people came back to the game.

Tera did fail in Asia and there is proof.

The company did not release its numbers to brag about it.

The game was release almost 1 1/2 YEARS ago...Jan of 2011.

Where are the hype articles? Where are they braging about "enter ANY number" here playing the game?

You havent seen it because it FAILED. They used a WESTERN modle for an Asian game...Buy the game, pay a monthly fee. No chance at having an account like any of the Lineage games of weekend access or paying for hourly access...a one time, flat fee.

The company failed on a lot of fronts.

A pay to play sized world with a Free 2 play quality story and gameplay quality, you can even find the reviews for the game outside of Korea, like in Japan where they even call the story is generic and hard to understand.

A game with Asian style cartoon cutsie graphics with combat geared to more western style games.

Western style pay choice for the Asian release.

3rd most play mmorpg in Korea, so its fail coz its not number 1? Than every other game beside WoW is fail in the west.

TERA has over 140k concurrent users (users logging in at the same time) in Asian Markets.

One year after a game releases you want a "hype" article... you obviously don't know how hype works. When the next expansion is announced, you will again see hype articles.

Free 2 play quality? Go try Vindictus, Dragon's Nest and some other really popular F2P games with TERA's fighting style. Learn what a F2P game is, and then come back and say that TERA is like those games. Hub + Instance is NOT what TERA is about, and yet that is the staple of almost all F2P games.

Also, the game did horrible in Japan. It didn't cater to their style. Their number one game is FFXI, and that game is very gind-centric, and requires a party to complete anything. TERA is not like that at all, and the story is definately not TERA's strong point, yet most Japanese love a good well written narative. With that in mind, even WoW was unable to dethrone FFXI in Japan. It is as much as a result of PCs not being widely accepted in Japan, and their xenophobia of other programs.

Finally, Asian style (yes) Cutesey graphics (NO). While the game has SOME cute classes, the game itself as a whole is gory, has ample use of blood and even nudity. The story is also not "cutesy" at any extent. Last story I did, a close friend of my character got eaten alive by the creatures I was fighting. Get your facts straight. If you have an agenda that you want to push, say it straight, and don't try to hide behind a venear of trying to help people out.
