SE strikes again

DakeruDakeru Member EpicPosts: 3,803

So I decided to give FF14 another go since the free trial has been activated some hours ago.

I like some of the changes - you can't mix skills as much anymore. Earth and Wind spells are Conjury exclusive for example while Fire and Ice belong to Thaumaturgy.

However there is one thing that makes no sense at all. They dumped my char on the Aegis server while all of my friends are playing on Ragnarok.

Why would I buy another subscription when I have just been isolated from my team?

This is the same shit as as swtor. Whether its EA or SE - how can companies be so stupid not to see the most obvious things?

I think during the merges if you had an active account you could select a server, it takes tech they don’t have to keep friends together automatically.

My problem is the graphics engine, it still hates my PCs card, crashes on higher settings and in towns, so I have to exit and stick setting on low to collect leaves etc, or I get the "directx not found" crash. It is no different from launch, I am very disappointed. Sooner they get that new engine in at 2.0 the better.

Also though the UI is a little better the combat mechanics are still counter intuitive for keyboard/mouse.

But you can use Fire from THM on a CON. :)
Anyway, the transfer thing really turned bad. Be glad you didn't _pay_ in the last month.

Anyone who did not pay and activated during the announced "Transfer" time did not get his character moved at all, but the server shut down anyway. So you have been stuck with a not working character.

You could activate (pay) and fill in a support ticket and still wait 2 weeks for the transfer to happen. But they managed to move ever character now.

The Merges have been convinient for SE not for the players. They could fill up their remaining servers nicely. Things like this make me wonder if 2.0 really works out even a bit, it's not like Server tranfser and merges an entirely new concept. Maybe the implementation is something new for the FFXIV team but the concept is well etablished, yet SE managed to do something whole different and stupid.

FFXIV is a social game, what exactly did they expect by introducing an EU server and random moving remaining currently inactive accounts on jp servers?

    "DERP".

The only solution is right now, make a new character (if your old isn't advanced enough) or wait for 2.0 when everything get's mixed (you can even redo your appearance).

Yes, ffxiv windower is still a requirement for anyone who does not likes window mode and plays with a full screen (or fake) setting. During fullscreen mode you are not allowed to alt+tab to desktop or anything else -> Directx not found. It's not a crash, it's sadly a "feature".

Yes, the current interface stays till 2.0 and hates mouse and keyboard still. You can't map the keys to switch action bars, and once you are past lvl30 on one job 10 quickslots are not enough, for a mouse / keyboard user that means you need to still use arrow keys to switch through the action bars (skillbars). It works great with a controller, but forces a typical pc user to move his hand to an absurd place.

Using macros for 11 - 30 slots is an option to map alt keys but you won't see the cooldown which makes it awkward to use.

Yes and my friends did that and they all went to Ragnarok together.

The question is why should I pay in advance to get to the same server as them?

Why would I pay again now that we got separated?

Your gfx card problem is a pity. It's working for me but I can hear the fan of the card which I normally can't. The game is still quite hard on the machine, but yeah I guess optimizing won't make sense now, when they are working on a whole new client.

If you are on Aegis that means you were on either on Melmond or Figaro, and during the merge you were moved to Aegis by default. Ragnarok was an open server which could only be accessed by choice, not default, meaning your friends chose to move there.

    That is not SE's fault.

Yes my friends stayed on the game and paid and moved to Ragnarok.

This welcome back campaign is to lure people like me back but people like me will definately not resubscribe simply because SE doesn't give us the option to follow our friends.

That is a very simple logic but yes I know certain people prefer to blame the players instead of the company.

Aside of this epic fail I tested the game on my own. I was looking all over towns for new quests - especially sets of quest with a nice storyline but there was nothing. About 3 new quests in each town which were finished within 5 minutes each.

Really now? I left the game 8 months ago - what have the been doing within that time?

New are the job quests but they are all about killing NMs which I did so often in my active time.

New are  the achievements with tasks such as "earn 100 million gil from leve rewards" and "earn 100 million gil from killing monsters". I'm aware that's an achievement meant to take years to complete but this is madness.

The last point is the new Garuda fight. Guess what? They separated me from my friends and now I'm stuck on a purely Japanese speaking server and the JP won't even think about using auto translation in their shouts.

No matter what you say but it is SE's fault for not giving me the option to follow my friends and they missed out on subscriptions this way. Unless you want to tell me I'm the only one with this problem (yeah totally likely).

Lastly I can't post on Lodestone either since my account still counts as inactive.

Yoshi is a dedicated Dev but the management of the game fails badly.

    What Free trial?

I played before it required a sub, but see no option for a free trial.

Nevermind, found it on the Lodestone.

    Patching now :D

Nah, that's still all you. You had the chance to move, or even have one of your friends move you. Now if they put you on some random server and all that, I'd agree. But they gave advanced warning for everyone that wanted to move for people to plan.

Oh yeah, Grand Companies are where a lot of quests come from, also depending on your level is how many side quests pop up.

I have 3 level 50 jobs and did ALL quests and ALL grand company quests already.

There is nothing left to do and they didn't add anything new in the last 8 months.

And yeah as said before answers such as "You should have paid to move to another server some months ago" is nothing else but fanboyism.

SE is the one that wants me back as customer so they have to offer me a fair service.

So if you did everything in the game, this free week wasn't directed at you. Obviously it to the newbies that quit at launch or early in the games life. 2.0 is more directed at you, feel free to wait until then.

And they did. You forgot about the over a year of no subs? Then a discounted price when they started charging? Now the discounted price forever if you sub for 90 days total? Totally not fair. So you're saying they should have made it a free week or month or whatever for those that wanted to move? Coulda' been an option. All I'm saying is they did offer a fair service. Even if you subbed for that one month to move with your friends, it would have been nothing compared to all the free months before. Just have to wait until they do free server transfers at 2.0, which is what I would guess they're going to do.

A very casual MMO player here :) I have bought FFXIV when it came out, played it for 2 months, liked the game because of its unique features, got tired of bugs, cancelled the subscription.

So now after the  "Welcome Back" e-mail has arrived in my inbox, I though I would give the game another try. So I login into my account. There is a trial "FFXIV 2.0" subscription, that is nice. But my old character is "Cancelled", to re-activate it I need to give them my credit card details.

You know what? I cannot be bothered. Bye-bye Square Enix.

The UI in this game makes the whole experience so terrible.  The game could be fun imo... if the ui and clunky feeling didn't ruin the experience.  The key mapping is atrocious and you spend more time trying to get the ui to do what you want then actually playing.

  • MuruganMurugan Member Posts: 1,494

    Your "friends" intentionally ditched you.

    Sorry buddy.

Ragnorak was a new server made for EU players lol.  THEY HAD TO CHOOSE TO GO THERE, had they like you stayed on their server they would have ended up on Aegis like you.

Your ranting is hillarious though in how you blame SE for this when it was actually your friends who ditched you knowing that you, and all of your other inactive friends would not transfer with them.

Sucks to be you, next time get some real friends.

    Here's how it went down:

You didn't have to pay anything, your "friends" just needed to take you into consideration which they obviously did not.

Half of my friends, those that still played the game, paid that month and moved to Ragnarok.

The other half abandoned the game and ended on Aegis now - a junk server used to dump surrendered accounts.

    They split us in half.

The lack of a server choice turns any welcome back event into a farce. Not to mention that I'm shocked how little content has been added in those 8 months since I left.

If there's something hilarious here it's a fanboy defending any shit SE pulls off.

So you didn't read the link I gave you?

Your friends OPTED for a transfer to a completely new server, which is also the least populous server now.

You didn't get dumped anywhere, most people chose to remain on their servers which were merged, but some people like your friends opted to go to a new server just for EU players (which only a small minority of EU players opted to move to).

What a joke, you can't seriously think that system of doing server merges was bad in anyway.  All they had to do was merge by default and they would have merged with everyone else on the server, including you.

THEY applied for a world transfer.  How can you possibly blame SE for that?

  • DragonantisDragonantis Member UncommonPosts: 974

I enjoyed my return to FFXIV, but I an sticking to my decision of waiting until 2.0 is released.

But I take my hat off to them for doing evrything they can to fix the game.

There were plenty of emails sent to active and inactive account holders about the merge.  You have nobody to blame but yourself.  Coming here to complain about it, is rather immature.

No he didn't have to do anything.  Everyone paying or not got merged with the rest of their server, the only people who were seperated are those who chose to go to a completely different server and in the process get away from people like the OP.

Confirmed. I had my characters moved without doing anything, and without an active subscription.

SE can do whatever they want, but if they want players back the request of the OP is not without merit.

Fair enough to a point but don't forget its still his/her own idiocy their in this position. After reading some of the OP post's, i don't blame the other half of the OP friends for ditching him/her.
