Hear me out on this. Not trying to strike any fan's emotions here with this post. This is just MY opinion
I really like the concept behind TSW, but I believe Funcom and EA failed on the delivery of it. Doesn't seem worth 15 dollars a month requirement to play.
Both of the should simply drop the sub fee, and refund life time subs, and go Free to Play model, and sell tons of boxes and shop stuff. I believe this game would have more success that way, and that would lead to further development of the game.
Looking at GW2 forum over the past few months after I deleted my account, made me realize that people are simply, and trutthfullly, more forgiving of a MMO when it doesn't have a sub, and isn't as P2W as a eastern MMO is.
I hate this browser for this site, but I will try to explain some issues I, as in ME, had issues with , that will simply turn me away from Subing to this game.
1) the game is buggy and sloppy. (yeah most MMO now days seem this way, even a year after release, but this is still a turn off.
2) the animations are a major turn off. In everything done, the animations are hard to ignore. I can ignore the graphics, but the animations I can not. WoW had poor graphics during vanilla, but had better animations than this..l that says a lot...feel worst than Warhammer... Wow this is AoC engine?
3) the game isn't true seamless world. It's cut into many closed off zones that you have to zone in. Please forgive this if it's only a beta thing, or I simply havnt discovered the seamless world if there is any. But perhaps Funcom should scrap the early zones and such, because they give a bad first impression. Right now it's feels like what Guild Wars would have been if it was a MMO. If you can understand that. Comparing to GW, it feel like its between GW1 and GW2. Maybe that's a better understanding of how the game world feels. Not quite GW1, but also not quite GW2.
4)the Cut Scenes are a major turn off. I hated this in SWTOR's beta, and I hate it here. They feel worst. Feel like its there just be there. It makes the game feel very "Single Player Console RPG" like but with multiplayer added on top. I can understand a few cool cut scenes from time to time, like Wrathgate in WoW, but this is pushing it too far, and they are not really interesting.
5) it still doing the traditional quest grind. Well to be fair, I actually was excited that a developer for a THEMEPARK MMO finally scrapped the stupid leveling concept, but when I visioned what it would be like, TSW wasn't it. Yeah it still has the level grind, but I figured that with the artificial levels removed that perhaps we could also move away from the on rails quest grind all the time. Maybe some new popular elements of gameplay such as Dynamic Events everywhere would spice things up. Honestly, tired of the quest grind. Earning skill points can be ok, if the PvE was more fun to do. Feels very, "been there done that".
6) yeah the UI is terrible, but that can be fixed with add ons or something.
Well what's your opinion of TSW? Do you agree iftar should go F2P using box sells and item shop instead of sub and shop? Did I offend you in anyway with this thread?

On one hand, I'm glad because MMOexposed is over here trolling some other game. On the other...I actually agree with him on something. So if you hear screaming, that's me lighting myself en fuego and leaping off the nearest tall thing.
3) I don't however recall FC ever saying it would be seamless. I wasn't a fan of the load times, though.
I acutally agree with the topic though. B2p with a cash shop, like GW2, might be more likely to attract people.
Mind you, I have a sneaking suspicion a LOT of AAA MMO devs are sitting there going "OK, we start with subscriptions for a year or two, suck in as much money as we can, then go fps and make the REAL money off a cash shop". It seems to work pretty well.
any other opinions?

It should just have the box and sub and do away with the "pay to not play my game" mechanic otherwise known as the cash shop.

Can we please realise this is a Beta test more of a stress test,it is not optomised still runs well on my rig though, and if u check the forums there is an extensive list of what they need to address,so at least wait till at least the third test as with GW2 there should be significant improvement as Funcom are throwing everything behind this game and tbh i do not see a rushed product as it stands.
Honestly I agree with alot of your points and I doubt it will really change all that much in 1 months time. The story has been pretty compelling but for me that is all, besides the fact that it isnt high fantasy.
I would be willing to pay a box price for it but not a sub sorry.
I don't think it could make it as free to DL, F2P + Cash shop.
This game is absolute garbage. And it really pains me to say that. I have been following it, I pre-ordered it, I was hyped for it. Complete let-down. I was talking with another poster the other day about how this game reminded me of Horizons. Now all we need is for the ghost of DB to come around and toute the virtues of the "Forthcoming Miracle Patch".
I dont know what it is that i find so irritating that people constantly suggest that p2p go f2p so they can play it without spending money.
Im finding more and more that i just cant stand the community that follows f2p games that it overrides and fun im having in my secluded guild community. I know that this game will eventually be the funcom hybrid business model. F2P for 90% of the content, gimmicky cash shop with xp crap and deco things...then p2p for the highest tier endgame and expansion maps....hopefully not for a long time though.
Its just...i can understand wanting a game with one server and stuggling to open the flood gates...games like warhammer perhaps...but to suggest that a game would be better before launch as f2p, based on opinion...irritates me for some reason.
Ive never heard anyone suggest that the simple fact that the game is free will make it better, ive only heard and experienced the opposite.
Then theres the poster above me who...for some reason...preorderd the game...as validation for hating it? and he thinks its going to shut down already...where do these people come from? The same was said for anarchy online (running since 2001 mind you) and AoC which is still ticking. I mean zergs, i followed your threads on the GW2 beta forums, they were informative but you clearly were pumped and preorderd GW2...here your threads seem to have highlighted a bias in your seeimgly neuteral polls. I believe in the ability to play multiple games so i wont hammer in any questions about why you preorderd another game when so fully pumped for GW2. Since you find this game as absolute trash that wont make it im assuming you wont be spam posting here and go back to the GW2 forums then?
Anyway back to rationalizing the "i didnt find it to be perfect therefore it should be free" arguments.
Can you point out the bugs and which bits are sloppy....not found them myself yet and would like to keep an eye open so I can report them. I have played...5 hours I guess and so far nothing bugged and everything else works well.....huh.
Anyone who actually WANTS an item shop in a game is a true MMO heretic. And look, here come the villagers!
Hedonismbot: Your latest performance was as delectable as dipping my bottom over and over into a bath of the silkiest oils and creams.
There is a cash shop, its basic and for deco items and xp potions (not a fan of but dont really care if other use those)
You still need to buy the box and sub. Most people who like the p2p model dislike the f2p communities that flood in when a game goes free..or when venturing into a free game between games.
I actually witnessed aion making the transition and what happend to the community, despite it only went partial f2p to full.
Its like, i dont want to have to pay extra so that people im not interesting in gaming with can play for free. Im selfish like that with my gaming dollars. There are PLENTY of free games out there where you dont need to suggest that every p2p game needs to be free so you can play without having to pay (you isnt refering t quoted person but used as a reference to people with this mindset)
You want a box price and a free game go play GW2.
Can broke children stop asking for f2p games when its not a f2p game. If it goes f2p itll be ala AoC youll be gimped and mocked if you dont sub.
lol, nice tosee u trolling someone else. Once again u have it all wrong and u probably will until someone makes the massive multiplayer simluation game u want ::cough cough eve 2::.
You can knock a ton about secret workd, but you cant say it has similar quests. THeir questing system is actually innovative with its riddle quests. it just fails at the basic combat. Real sad. I'd almost wish they take combat out or only rely on it for big bosses. Like skyrim, combat is the weakest component of this game and u don't have a game if u can't stomach the combat.
I am not broke nor a kid but I would not pay a monthly sub for a story, which I can get from any one time box price single player rpg ,nor will I just for a modern day setting.
I have played f2p games with better animations, graphics and combat mechanics.
MMOExposed I like your threads you post, and I agree with you.
This why i dont play MMO's anymore unless they have free previews or trials. Most of the new mmo's are like playing single player rpgs, they are a waste of time, and a waste of money.
Skyrim, and Fallout to me have more to offer then any of these games and they are single player rpgs.
I think P2P MMO's will be going out if they don't start providing more in terms of content in these P2P MMO's. You can play APB for free and even that has more content then Tera Online. Even Elder Scrolls Online is going to be free 2 play after awhile.
the game is horrible just horrible
it looks sooo outdated
it better go b2p or f2crap
still waiting true mmorpg
archeage-world of darkness
kill x zombies kill x golems
just few mysterious quests wont save the game none the minorty fans of this game
Funcom could throw a army against this game and not fix 50% of the issues in 30 days this game has. It's a shame really as the game has brillance shinning around the edges but it has serious issues that can't all be fixed before launch unless they postpone it which they won't.
A few of the issues I have right now.
Character creation options are horrible. Why is this industry going backwards at Character creation especially in a game where creating a unique avatar should be so important because gear is not tied to appearance.
Appearance items are VERY limited. 4 different types of pants each with a bunch of difference colors? Maybe it gets better later but it seems to me like just more reskining of existing items. Again this is a huge issue for a game set in the modern world. Walk though a department store and look at all the options for what you can wear than look at what TSW has to offer. I've seem more options for clothing in a truck stop.
Combat sucks. I was thinking tonight this games combat is worse than AOC, again going backwards seems odd. I love the skill system and playing around with different builds/abilities is fun but once you press that attack key it goes downhill very fast. Build combo points to a finisher move and get out of the way when the mob telegraphs a attack is really the best this game can do? You can't even jump, dodge or block either you have to slowly walk out of the way.
The game is horribly optimized. Much more so than a game 30 days from launch should be and I don't buy the "It's beta and will get better" excuse. There is only time for 2-3 code/test/deploy cycles at this point and that isn't near enough to fix the game engines optimization.
While some of the quests are interesting and requiring thinking/exploring to solve most are just fetch/kill.
Oh the pages I could write on the animations.
For all the issues I see I will admit there is glimmers of a great game in here. Even the combat system if it was made just slightly more interactive would improve it a lot. But, the game needs a lot more work to realize that promise and I know Funcom has no interest in leaving it in development the time it would take to fix so it's going to release basicly as we are playing it today. What a shame.
