In-depth look into classes

PinkSparrowPinkSparrow Member UncommonPosts: 33

Hey all,

So i recently purchased Rift and just finished installing and patching. Now before i dive into creating a character i want to know more about the callings, perhaps some pretty pictures of what my skills will look like, ha. I personally am not one to reroll numerous times to find a character that suits me, just too much time to go through that, unless of course you get a feel of the character early and fast, which i doubt is the case, so here's me asking if anyone could point me into a direction....

look for the soul tree calculator on ZAM

Warriors = tank or melee dps, all use a 3 point combo system (think WoW rogue) that heavily factors nto their game play

Rogues = melee dps, ranged dps, or support (bard).  all use a 5 point combo system.  GCD cooldown is faster than warriors, this is the clickiest class

Mages = ranged dps (caster obviously), healer, or support.

Clerics = everything.  Tank, Melee DPS, Ranged DPS, Heals.  But most expect you to heal (Ive gotten yelled at for not having a heal spec among my melee, ranged, tank and PvP builds).

Thanks for the response, i found what i was looking for, and i tried out most of the classes, the game is quite informative of what classes are like and what their main stuff is. I still have yet to really get into it, i wanted to roll a Pyromancer but i heard they're a PVP class, i tried looking at classes that solo well, or amazingly, i found the odd one or two, but the threads i was looking at dated back to 2011, so, here i am again, asking if anyone knows what classes solo.

One of the best soloing builds is the 'Duracell' cleric build.   Takes a bit to get going, but you can take on multiple mobs at once with ease and come out full health and full mana.  There should be guides out there for it, even guides how to level with t.

Worth pointing out that the Warrior's combo system builds points up that travel with the Warrior, but the Rogue system builds points up that travel with the target. That means Warriors can switch targets easier and have less 'build-up' time than Rogues.

The best soloing classes are going to be...

    1) Warrior. Anything with at least 44 in Riftblade. This is one of the best soloing options (even though you can't get it until very high level) because it combines massive self-heals with pure DPS. Since other solo builds tend to shy away from DPS in favor of more defense, this means the Warrior can tear through trash much quicker while still staying healed.

    2) Cleric. The duracell build, using Justicar and some other combination.

    3) Mage. Warlock and Chloromancer are your friends here.

    4) Rogue. No idea, they actually have the hardest time as a solo class, though they are more versatile than Warriors and have the option to play as Support.

Thanks guys. I asked somewhere else and got the same about Clerics, although I was told by someone else that Rouges are better than Mages and Warriors, and Mages being least favorable. I have such an OCD picking classes in MMO’s.

I am planning on leveling up both a Rouge and a Mage of some sort, so far I’ve been told about a Rouge build revolving Assassin, RiftStalker, and BladeDancer, and a Mage build revolving either Elementist and Stormcaller or Warlock, Necromancer, and Chloromancer. These are the builds, any more info from anyone would be appreicated.

In order as i mentioned them above.

Warlock / Necromancer / Chlormancer is great for leveling.  The Warlock tree gives you DoT's and some nice straight dmg spells, the Necromancer tree gives you a pet and some additional straight dmg spells, and Chloromancer gives you healing and dmg spells that will also heal your pet.

That was my favorite char for leveling.   Cleric's are a lot of fun too especially if you intend to do some leveling in warfronts.

Rogues can tank too with Riftstalker soul.Riftstalker/Assassin combination is good for solo due the durabliity Riftstalker provides and the self healing poison Assassin has.If you want to tank end game contents with rogue you need to go full 51 Riftstalker at the end tho.

Clerics are slow at first but good after some levels.Druid is a good melee dps soul now after tha last patches.

A Reaver/Paladin is good for solo leveling a Warrior too.Somewhat slow but solid combination.Full Riftblade is great for fast leveling as metioned above but a bit fragile.

For mages yes Chloro/Warlock or Warlock/Necro are two god mode combinations.

You can experiment with callings and souls combinations to find which suits you the best tho.

That is what the skill system in Rift is all about.Experiment.
