The elder dragons on the beginners Isle will give you quests for adventuring as well as crafting. Once you leave your little island go to chiconis and dralk, there the big old dragons will lend you a claw and give you more missions. As to adventuring, some bipeds also give missions to dragons, so it pays to speak to all biped npcs who are not trainers. As a youngster, Lesser Aradoth (the isle with the towns Sslanis and Kion) will be your starting point to battle some new mobs. On these isle the mobs are lvl 1-20 so take care, hatchling. Go speak to a trophy hunter or a town marshall and they will reward you for your adventures.
As for buying a house -- what does a dragon want with a house? You would have to rely on bipeds to build the structures on the plot... wait a little, pretty soon regular dragon lairs will be on the market. And these you can furnish yourself, because there will be dragon trainers who teach you the skill of laircrafting. To get such a lair, you will need money. And you can get money by fulfilling quests, looting mobs or selling stuff you find. So get going, hatchling!

While I agree with you that a dragon should have a lair, not a house -- i must object to the reference of a house as 'stinking'! Sure, the biped houses available are less than perfect from the gnomish point of view -- no whirring gears or steampipes - but they definitely do NOT stink!
