It's a very nice addition that other developers simply don't have the resources to include.

I also think it is a great idea. It's nice to be able to show off what you have achieved seeing that people won't be able to see your stats in game unless it's 3 at a time! Seen a few people hating on this because they don't want people to see their builds or look like noobs etc, I don't care about these things though and welcome the great feature!

They are also providing an Item Database themselves, instead of having to rely on third party database sites like WoWHead, etc.... where much of the information is dependant on players providing details or comments and often unfinished.
Blizzard is going all out for D3, they've left nothing to chance.
This is awesome , because I kinda feel now when I spend over $5000 on gear / gems etc on RMAH that I can now show my awesomeness to all the world and they will drool before my greatness lol
And people can have a look at your achievements and see how you really acquired them
