Games need to break the mold when it comes to playable land mass. I am so sick of playing games that have predefined lvl regions. go to region A lvl from 1-10 move to region B lvl from 11-20 go to region C for lvls 21-30 ect.
Why do developers stick with such an outdated world deveopment theme? Why not creat a open unrestricted world worth exploring. Distance in a game world should have meaning, more so if PvP is involved.
The only game I know of that has done this is Fallen earth. This game has the largest game world by far hands down than any other MMO ever created. Dark fall came close, at least it had an open unrestricted world.
A world like this would be far more intersting and fun to explore than the spoonfed crap that has always been developed before and continues to be devloped presently.
Why aren't more game developers doing this?
Players do not need to be spoon fed ...they'll figure it out...eventually.

I think what you're missing is that themepark games will ha have designated sections for specific levels. Hence the term themepark, you're supposed to work you way around the game enjoying the ride.
What you desire is characteristic of a sandbox game. We could get into why aren't developers making more sandbox games, but you can find several threads discussing that here

Theme park events and such would work just fine in a "sandbox" world.
Latly more an more games have been reverting to 90s tech with all the zones that require "loading" new zone whenever you move about the "game world"
Zone loading is the number one emersion killer of all time.
I find it very disapointing that GW2 has them in any capacity.

I've grown bored of all themepark games now - restricted levelling zones being one of the many many reasons. Alas, there isn't any good sandbox games out though but that's because nobody (in terms of big developer/publishing companies) is brave enough to take the risk.
The only way we will see an amazing MMO in the future, is if it doesn't follow suit with ANY themepark games (there are a few good aspects that can be kept but these are usually found in single player RPG's too such as inventory layouts and other basic things).
In regards to Guild Wars 2 and its zones with the level requirements in brackets on the world map, I didn't really expect anything less. This will most likely be the last themepark MMO I shall play and hopefully it will take me a fair way into the future until I get bored and maybe a good sandbox will be on the horizon with a massive world and complete freedom of what you can do like setting up a kingdom and making your own laws of the land you acquire or maybe just becoming a hermit and going to live alone in the mountains somewhere. My hopes are with Embers of Caerus by Forsaken Studios. Their vision is perfect and hopefully they can deliver...
Dark&Light were bigger.
Fallen Earth total map size is roughly 83 km by 83 km (the exact numbers would be 83.89 x 83.89), or roughly 7000+ square kilometers.
Dark&Light had 15 000-square-mile of land (not including seas).

I'll played Fallen Earth but not Dark&Light. How is it? Besides the open map, why else do you recommend the game.
