I just experienced the best public PvE experience I never had in my life.
On the next beta event, if you want to see the true potential of this game's dynamic event system, try to do this meta event : Assault on Svanir Dome. It's located top north of Wayfarer foothills ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wayfarer_Foothills ).
I suggest to play it from the very start to the very end, in order to feel the real adrenaline of the ramping up "local war".
It starts with another event where you have to destroy banners in a Svanir headquarters. Then this is triggered : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Assault_on_Svanir's_Dome
I experienced it yesterday, and holy cow this was a truly amazing experience. Really, top tier raid quality level, we were all (I was alone at the start, we ended to be 30 in the final part) cheering like pussies about how the whole player invasion was awesome.
The meta event is complicated, and require more and more cooperation. But where it really showed the potential of the game, is that next to this event zone, there is a village, which contains the hero NPCs who are starting the invasion with you (step 2 or 3 of the meta event). Thing is, while I was finishing the earlier steps of the event and activating the NPC departure to the dome, the village itself got invaded by the dome's Svanir themselves. The people who had to be invaded just invaded the village first ! So to continue the dome invasion, I had to go back to the village, destroy every svanir in it, rez all the guards and hero NPCs, and then return to the dome with them.
But I was too far away, as I was alone in the dome to slay Svanir and destroy their buildings. So I wrote a call in the chat to free the village in order to invade Svanir HQ. 5 Minutes later, I started to head towards the village, seeing noone answering, and at the entrance of the dome, what I saw : an army of 20 players penetrating the HQ, headed by a village's Hero woman NPC in armor, cheering people up to destroy the Svanirs. This sole image was absolutely fantastic. We started to destroy everything around us. It took some time, because basically we had a bar saying "Svanir morale", going down a bit for each Svanir we slayed, but we were all completely sacking the HQ recklessly, even if the mobs were 3 levels higher. There were deathes of course, but it seems that I had the chance to be part of a skilled player group.
Funny sidenote : some enemies were dropping this weapon, at 2 rare occasions : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lightning_Hammer_(environmental_weapon)
I had the chance to pick up one, and lol it felt so powerful to slam Svanirs with a rain of thunder ... Every strike I gave came with a SKRASH*BOOM effect, stomping the Svanirs one by one.
Anyway, Svanir morale was going down slowly, until it was zero. Corpses everywhere, we just destroyed maybe 80 Svanirs in 20 minutes.
Then, a shaman appeared, and this fight went on (with far more people than that, we were 30) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcg11KBVXfY
During the fight we started to organize ourselves as the boss has a ton of HP and hits like a truck. For example we had people who were in charge to rez the Hero NPCs for them to take aggro, every time they died. When the boss was down, the local chat was crowded with "holy shit this was awesome".
And believe me, the whole way of how everything happened and intricated in itself was fracking epic.
Cherry on the cake : as the Heroes had taken the Svanir HQ, the village was no longer invaded.

Little forum boys with their polished cyber toys: whine whine, boo-hoo, talk talk.
You're welcome, I'll really try to fraps great stuff like this next time.
Also, to tell how varied the ambiences are : the next zone after this one was hilarious and refreshing, Diessa Pleateau : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Diessa_Plateau
As soon as I arrived (after completing my personal story involving a fight inside an arena), I reached a town that was celebrating the "Charr's Barbecue day", and what they called the "Barbecuethon" The events here consisted in brawling, smacking people with 1H meat pieces (lol I swear) and protecting fireworks installation from a disgruntled separatists camp nearby.
The contrast between this Svanir epic invasion and the Barbecue festitivies was really refreshing.

My experience with that meta event was incredibly different :P There weren't really many people around, so I just started soloing that stuff. The smaller boss at the left tower was pretty hard, took some tries. Got a little help and took him down. East was taken down by another couple of players. So we fought the end boss with like 4 players. Didn't really know what he did yet though, so we got killed. After that 2 of them ran off, so we were with only 2 left.
By now I knew what the boss did though, so I just pulled him again and started kiting. Once the other player saw that I was doing just fine she joined the fight too. After a lil while a couple more players joined. It actually got a lil harder now because it was harder to predict which direction he'd charge in. But we beat him anyways, with a group of 4. Was pretty awesome.
Like an hour later I went to the same place again (due to personal story). This time the end boss was already there, but there were no other players around. So I started soloing again. Killed like 30% of him before help finally showed up.
If you want a truly difficult boss, try and find a ranged one. There was one in a lvl 15-25 zone, in the water. I couldn't beat her as there was nobody around (got killed in like 5 seconds)
"I'll lead, you follow."
I'm always searching for a challenge Do you remember the name of the zone by chance ?
(btw Assault on Svanir Dome was indeed glorious to me because of the scale it took over time)

This is not a game.
Sounds fun
In the barbecue village, you could pick up a piece of meat, it had 2 skill slots : Swing, Eat. xD
(eating it would give you health regen and a stackable speed buff)

i killed that boss with arround 30+ other people.... the fight took like 5 minutes or something ...
and tbf, it was boring as hell. Capturing the towers was fun tho
I'll definitely head up towards the north of Wayfarer Hills next time.
My journey through the zone was a backwards experience because I zoned in from Lion's Arch's shortcut portal. I was absolutely clueless as to where I was supposed to go, so I started heading straight towards skill point locations to do them. More than once I ended up having to solo content because the rest of the players were probably playing in the dungeons at this time. The difficulty of the events all were very fair given the circumstances. I did not feel it was too difficult to get through the zone. I played as a great sword/mace and torch guardian. I had a blast going through that zone.
My lesson learned was never to run straight towards point B without looking at what you've aggro'd along the way because a few times I had way too much to deal with alone. I could take a small mob by opening up with a blind and some high damage skills, but I ended up flat on my back a few times from trying to deal with too much at once or pulling another fight into the crowd. I did learn to keep a few things barely alive just so I could get out of my downed state when in trouble. That allowed me to kill more enemies than I had originally throught possible. The game has plenty of fun ways to take advantage of combat.
It is important to note that I was around lv 24 when I hopped into Wayfarer Hills, so most of the content was not going to one-shot me when I decided to try it out. It could still give me a hard time if I did not play smart.
