Release date leaked by gamestop

http://www.gamepur.com/news/8078-guild-wars-2-release-date-leaked-gamestop.html

Apparently gamepur.com noticed or got tipped off about gamestops listing of the release date. Obviously this doesn't mean that is the release date but it's a possibility and it's interesting non the less.

Gamestores always put "estimated" release dates on games. I wouldn't trust any release date that doesn't come from the developers website.

  • CelciusCelcius Member RarePosts: 1,878

Thats just a bad new site looking for some press. I would not think much of it. That release date has been on there for a couple of months now. The reason it is the 26th is because that is the last week in NC Soft's sales quarter I believe. (Q2)

Don't take the dates that game stores set seriously. They won't know until ANet officially sets a date.

More than likely just a placeholder date. Retailers do it all the time with preorders.

Never ever consider a GameStop release date to be an official release date. :)

TSW's release date is nearly a month away and people are freaking out over the state of the game as seen in this weekend's beta test.  Unless Anet puts some major work into their game, fans better hope GW2 isn't released a mere 10 days later.  The last beta weekend was an epic mess, and I hope to see some major improvement on Monday's stress test and the May beta weekend.

I can predict lots of people disagreeing with you soon.. :)

Apart from few hours I could not login everything worked smooth as pie for me. And the build they are using for todays stress test is same used for first BWE.

What the heck are you talking about? BWE1 was better than most beta events that occur a few weeks before release! We don't know how much more they have to work on behind the scenes and in areas that were not part of the beta event, but IF what we saw was indicitive of the overall state of the game, we could definitely see a late June or Early July release.

It will be very funny if GW2 in fact releases on the 26 Jun.

    Proven wrong how?

Yes, there were some login issues on the friday, but once they were sorted out, it was fairly smooth for the rest of the BWE.

Far from the epic mess you claim it to have been.

Do they have things that need to be fixed or worked on, of course they do, but all MMOs are the same, even ones that have been released.

Again, that does not make it the epic mess that you claim it to have been.

Actually, I would go so far as to say having played GW2 during the BWE, and playing TSW during its BWE, GW2 is closer to a releaseable state than TSW is.

I guess the "too" would refer to gamestop than? Because the closest anyone should come to claiming I made anything up is to say I made to big a deal out of a article I read that I thought might be interesting to people on these boards.

I don't care about anyone's personal experiences.  I did not experience any login issues on Friday, likewise, I guess you didn't experience a crippling framerate, massive lag, or broken instance loading.  Login issues of a different sort even pervaded all throughout the beta.  God help you if you logged out in the Mists as you're gonna have to spam the login button about 25 times to finally get in.  Fact of the matter is even if you or I didn't experience all of these specific issues, it doesn't mean they didn't occur in any capacity.  The huge propensity of threads made about the subject during the beta weekend is evidence enough of that.

Couple all these issues with the massive AoE spam during dynamic events and the broken melee combat, and issues with the overflow server, I'd say Guild Wars 2 needs far more time in the oven than TSW.  Everyone keeps going on about how bad the animations and optimization are in TSW, but the animations in GW2 were never the greatest and at least TSW actually realizes I have a video card installed in my machine.  GW2 is more poorly optimized than Vanguard was at release, and that alone will absolutely kill the game unless they make massive changes between now and release.

Well we've seen these gaming sites & retail companies throw around release dates for 2 years now. Still remember when GW2 had a release date for 11 November 2010. image

Once you've been here that long, well... you get the picture.

Most of the things you mentioned, with the exception of the AOE madness, happened to a small minority of players. The FPS issues were on a case by case basis..and were due to the fact that the engine hadn't gone through its final pre-release optimization that most developers do before a big release. I played on my GTX 460 2GB and i5 and had absolutely no fps drops....until i went to lions arch. That city is a beast! Logging out in the mists was no problem for me. I could log out and back in with no issues. In fact I only had connection issues twice during the whole event. Once on friday when i tried to log in and again when i got DC'd randomly...later finding out that the servers were taken down for emergency updates.

So the poster above was correct when he said that MANY will disagree with you. And you can try all you like to prove us wrong...but we've got plenty of evidence. Just because a few odd things happened to you doesnt mean the BWE was an epic mess... Just means you had a bit of rotten luck. Or maybe you should update your graphics drivers :P I know that fixed issues for a few people.

If everything was as horrible as you say, why are there so many happy people eager to play the game? ArenaNet has already addressed most if not all issues you mentioned in various forum posts. I played vanguard at release and I have absolutely now idea how you can compare THAT to GW2. On unrelated note, cant wait for Vanguard F2P, it had some great ideas :)

It's also enough to prove that you were, quite possibly, in a small minority.

It's frustating I know, hope you work it out.

    I'm sorry, but no heartless.

While I would say GW2 is fairly polished, it is definitely not ready to release yet. The most obvious is the fact that we are still missing 2 race's full of zones. It's also still unclear as to how many of the higher end zones are complete (I know some are, but I'm sure they are all being tweaked still).

Even that aside, there's still a good amount of features that need tweaking / fleshed out, and bugs that need to be fixed. I enjoyed the game, but neither GW2 or TSW are ready to be released for at least another 2 months.

I guess the thing with the internet is there is always some new 5 year old to believe everything he sees, thus we still get threads like this. There. Is. NO. Release. Date.
