Does anyone have any more information on how crafting will (or may) work?
[rant]
I like crafting and have been a crafter in various games but the tedium usually gets to me. Who wants to build 1000 iron rods and then move onto 1000 steel bars? It's just stupid. Yes, perhaps in Real Life you have to apprentice for years before you can be good, but it's not the way I want to spend my afternoon....

Anyway, does anyone know how crafting will work in HJ? The paragraph I read talked about being fun and less tedium, sounds like a good start to me.

Most of us share the same thoughts you do regarding the tedium of crafting in most games. Making 1000 iron rods, which are used to make 500 five-irons +1 gets a bit old. Especially because there is nothing special about your new five-iron. The HJ crafting system will allow you to take your items and craft them through an ability system. You won't be cranking out items every day, but those items you take the time to enhance and tailor to your desires, will actually mean something to both you and your character. Some have used the Honzo swords from the Kill Bill series, as an example. There weren't many, but you knew who made them.
Hope that explains it more for you,

D'oh.. posted a reply to this earlier, but I'm guessing I didn't actually "post" it.. sigh..
So what I was saying, in the post that wasn't, was that what you say makes sense, but what I'd like to understand more about is how the abilities actually work. How do you gain in ability? Is there an ability tree? Is it related to questing? Will building / tailoring a single sword take hours to do? What aspects will be time consuming? Will it be possible to craft all day if someone wants to?
I'm sure I have more questions on it, but it's just so vague right now!
Variation.
For me, crafting in pretty much every MMO I've played has sucked, because when I create a sword of impending death, it's exactly the same as the other guy's sword of impending death.
There is zero variation.
And from what I have read, and what was said above, it seems the focus will be on varied, personalised crafting.
How frickin cool would that be.. oh yes oh yes.
One more reason that HJ is pretty much my sole shiney star of hope for the Fantasy genre MMO.
Simply cannot wait

Oh. My. God.
1. Interesting (variation.. what do I get now..)
2. Potentially rewarding (even if the swords aren't what I want, maybe someone else does... profit!)
3. Success rush (when you actually make one you get the "high" of success
