Ugh permadeath... say goodbye to PvP because this game will hardly have any. Gank-tastic.
Bye, no need to pop back to check on progress, enjoy your gaming.
Nah, folks should feel free to voice their opinions on stupid shit like this. A ladies fashion game with FFA PVP.....what isnt there to love? /sarcasm off
If there is one thing I have learned from reading your posts, in the TOR forum, is that it is considered good for a forum to have someone constantly nag about a product they have no interest in playing. With the mechanics being offered, the NGE talk should already be in motion. This game has epic fail written all over it.
FFA PVP alone will limit the appeal of this game. I cant see CCP not putting in "safe zones" ala EVE. Between FFA PVP, and making a womens fashion show online, there is going to be some epic reading going on in the WoD forums. Folks should be getting popcorn stocked up.
It is a shame though, cause a couple of great posters here are looking forward to this game. I hope for their sake it works out, but I dont see it.

only the incredible stupid and careless players will suffer permadeath. what is a good thing.
No, I didn't read any of the links, OP lacked any kind of summary and mentioned permadeath out of context. But atleast I got the right side of things in replies. Still didn't need to read the links tho.

What's to prevent this town Prince from simply calling the Blood Hunts on tons of people just to be a richard? Imagine if the Goons take over the game...

No summary I'll give you, but phrase " player elected leader with permadeath rights " out of context or not, is informative enough to make a conclusion that permadeath isn't most likely all over the place.

In the actual setting a prince is not actually the sole person in power, and really in many accounts can be seen as a figurehead for the council that advises the prince on matters. Also just based on the material of the game setting the prince can not call for blood hunts, except when certain critiera are meet, such as breaks in the masquerade, breaks in the traditions that function as ruless that govern some of the clans, and unprovoked attacks on kindred. Yet one of the biggest reasons for a prince to call for a blood hunt is for vampiric dsplays to humans, such as feeding on humans in open view of other human, using blood arts/disciplines infront of humans, and such breaks in the masquerade. If they make the game without any real governing rules that players can fallow, or rebel against, than it would not be VtM or any other WoD setting in truth. If they have these upper conclaves of vampires that actually oversee the princes, than you will have any prince that is misusing or causing issues de-throned by them, as well as possibly killed off for their actions anyways. Both the Camarillia as well as Sabbat have a defined higherarcy that controls most of their cities, and the prince is not the highest postiion in the group but merely the highest visable position in the groups.
For myself i think that which of the great factions in the VtM setting control a city determines how you can act in the city, suuch as how if you are in a Sabbat controled city the laws that keep the masquerade in place do not apply, but in a city that is controlled by the Camarilla will be far more controlled thru the traditions making it somewhat safer to play in compared to a Sabbat city, while areas like rural areas or smaller towns might be fully independent of both groups allowing for the players to play as they wish no matter what group they are in. So in a way the cities could be seen as protected zones that are largely free of conflict, while non-aligned cities or more rural areas are like the more pvp space in EvE.

he can free call for blood hunt, but there are consequences, besides only ppl without any point in humanity can lose their characters(permadeath), as in pnp version.
I think Blood Hunt Permadeath will be Okay *if* they require certain criteria be met before the Prince is able to click that "Blood Hunt" button. Otherwise, Princes might call Blood Hunts because he doesn't like your face, or because his girlfriend thinks you're cute.
my hope is that they have open FFA PvP, all the consequences for your character are handled in game. In other words, you can attack that human or Kindred for whatever reasons you want to, but it will have repercussions for your character. A previous poster said that this will be incredibly hard to implement, and it will, but if they get it right it will make all the difference for this game. I hope that all the princes start off as GM's, then as the community matures, players start taking over those positions. You also have to remember that the position of Prince will (should) have a lot of in game controls to what they can do. Even once a player Prince ousts on of the GM's, there should still be GM's on whatever council of elders advises the Prince, so if he/she starts to get out of hand abusing his power, they could step in and oust him with the support of other players. The council can also monitor the Prince to make sure he is fulfilling his responsibilities (i.e. supporting the masquerade, granting/not granting progeny rights to those who have/have not earned them). There are a multitude of ways that the devs can control gameplay and out of control players with too much power within the game, its just a matter of how creative they want/can get in implementing them.
Even without the controls I don't see player Princes getting as out of control in WoD as an equivalent player would get in WoW, but it will happen, in some cases enough that the player experience will suffer, so I see a lot of previous poster's points on that, but as long as there are good controls, most of that should be avoided.
I didn't play much PnP VtM, but I think the only way a prince can call a blood hunt would be on a vampire who diablerized another vampire. I think depending on circumstances, if one vampire kills (true death) another in combat, one may be called, but most other "offenses" are handled in other ways. Plus, in vampire society a prince may be final word in his city, but he still has to answer to his clan's justicar, other powerful kindred in the city (whose numbers could have GM's mixed in), not to mention other princes (especially those of the same clan), plus, all the members of the clan whose member he wants to call a blood hunt on.
If CCP follows the Vampire Masqurade rules perma-death will be difficult to pull off.
Vampires dont die easily in that game system. They go into a state called "Torpor" or however its spelled. Its a state of near death, they are healing, EXTREMELY slowly. Its like a coma.
If they add Werewolves aka Garou which I really hope they do, again perma-death will be difficult to pull off.
Most Garou are able to get away from any situation that could lead to them dieing if they are smart. And they are more than a match for any Vampire of like "age".
Then finally the balancing act of adding the third "race" would be either Mage: The accension, or Hunters (which are humans who are aware of supernaturals and hunt them.)
I think Blood Hunt Permadeath will be Okay *if* they require certain criteria be met before the Prince is able to click that "Blood Hunt" button. Otherwise, Princes might call Blood Hunts because he doesn't like your face, or because his girlfriend thinks you're cute.
Now on the other hand that is pretty much how it works in some citys in WoD... =P
But that being said, places like havens and Elysium will most likly be guarded or at least policed against PvP considering the rules set down in the PnP game. And outside of that i would guess it will work a bit like it did back in UO... pretty much if you did dumb shit anyone could attack you wihtout the risk of a reputation loss.
Same thing here.. Do dumb shit and you will loose your head.
As I understand it WoD is extremely ambitious & will have a PvE game right alongside it's PvP sandbox, this will enable typically PvE players to become enmeshed in the game especially those not familiar with the prior games & pnp/pc rpg's.
For me I think WoD may end up as my "perfect game" a meaty storied PvE "levelling" game with rich lore, with a sandbox PvE & politics endgame that can be dipped into as and when.
I could see myself gradually playing it more & more as a sandbox as time went on & the ingame politics & emergent gameplay develops.
It is a long way off though, but definitely on my long-term radar.
To be honest, as a former EVE online player, (not enough time anymore) the sole reason I cannot envision this being a success is mostly because the World of Darkness has almost slipped into a coma at this point like every other Non-D&D related relic of the 80s and 90s side of things. FATE systems recently have pretty much stolen the main audience of storyteller styyle tabletop RPGs,, and the LARP fee debacle from White wolf over half a decade ago caused almost an immediate 50% decline of populace on the LARP side of things of an already small market.
I really wonder if CCP is overestimating the interest thanks to the dunce that was Ryan Dancey

Well, you're right that the table-top RPG is having a wee bit of problems business-wise, from the little bit I've seen from it.
However, the Vampire MMO is not solely directed at ex-table-toppers. Vampires have always been popular; even if a Vampire MMO had no resemblance of The Masquerade, it'd still have a very good shot at being successful. I'd say the game is more directed at vampire and personal horror fans, rather than table-top RPG fans.
Vampire: the Masquerade doesn't have a monoply on vampires. Any company could make an MMO based on vampires, and make up their own systems completely.
I think using Vampire: the Masquerade is best, for a few reasons: 1. It will attract ex-table-toppers without repulsing non-table-toppers. 2. It's an exquisite system and history for vampire mythology, quite brilliantly incorporating nearly all elements of western vampire mythology in an interesting manner. 3. An MMO is an RPG, and Vampire: the Masquerade is a time-honored RPG, with experience they can dip into in order to understand how role-players will react to certain basic elements.

there should be no quests in the way of " go there kill 14 bats and give me a dogs egg" it should be stealth or persuasion or just kill 1 dude or dudett

add a cellphone app for ios and android wich works as ur game phone say u get sent a message from a player the u recive it on ur phoen instead if u have a phone app tied to ur account . can also be used to manage stocks and such while on the go

WoD will end the dreaded WoW era of boring kill X fetchquest themepark MMOs, together with Archeage
I agree totally
I plated PnP RPGs since AD&D, played Vampire The Masquerade / Werewolf, and a few others. I think a game (as long as it keeps the theme as the PnP version) like this is long overdue!

Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

I have high hopes for this game as it's last "adult" genre mmo around, and I think CCP is better then Failcom...
im not really suprised that this game ain't gonna be a wow close..
CCP has so many good thinkers in there company..
Altho i don't play eve.. i think eve is one of the most succesfull mmo's on the market..
This vampire game looks intresting aswell. not your standart fantasy theme..
What im worried about.. If i take eve as exemple.. is the combat in this game..
Hopefully they will find a different path then the tab target shit
