Learning skills info

CopelandCopeland Member Posts: 1,955

This was a post i ran across on my corp forum. I thought i'd pass it along here..

In the interest of being fair, I'm going to use the attributes of my alt character, who has all the basic learning skills to level 5 and a full set of +3 basic implants. (Rather than using my rather unbalanced attribs and +4 implants.)

Intelligence: (10+5+3)*1.1 = 19.8
Perception: (7+5+3)*1.1 = 16.5
Charisma: (8+5+3)*1.1 = 17.6
Willpower: (6+5+3)*1.1 = 15.4
Memory: (8+5+3)*1.1 = 17.6

The question to answer is "How long does it take to pay off training all 5 advanced learning skills from level 4 to level 5?" So let's throw in all advanced learning skills at level 4.

Intelligence: (10+5+4+3)*1.1 = 24.2
Perception: (7+5+4+3)*1.1 = 20.9
Charisma: (8+5+4+3)*1.1 = 22.0
Willpower: (6+5+4+3)*1.1 = 19.8
Memory: (8+5+4+3)*1.1 = 22.0
Average Attribute: 21.78 - 32.67 Skill Points per minute
Now, I'll do this 1 skill at a time so there are no questions and no arguments. Proper order of training is highest first. ( primary + ( secondary /2 ) ) Keeping in mind that as you train them, those numbers change, hence the order on Focus and Clarity for me.

Logic level 5: 17,961.22159 minutes (12 Days, 11 Hours, 21 Minutes, 13 Seconds)
Eidetic Memory level 5: 18,246.32035 minutes (12 Days, 16 Hours, 6 Minutes, 19 Seconds)
Presence level 5: 19,483.35901 minutes (13 Days, 12 Hours, 43 Minutes, 21 Seconds)
Focus level 5: 20,166.98565 minutes (14 Days, 0 Hours, 6 Minutes, 59 Seconds)
Clarity level 5: 20,166.98565 minutes (14 Days, 0 Hours, 6 Minutes, 59 Seconds)

Total training time: 95,974.98565 minutes (66 Days, 15 Hours, 34 Minutes, 59 Seconds)
New Average Attribute: 22.88 - 34.32 Skill Points per minute This is a 1.65 Skill Points per minute improvement.

Total Skill Points invested in 5x Rank(3) level 5 skills (above level 4): 3,161,175 <--- Number of Skill Points it takes to payoff this training
3,161,175 divided by 1.65 equals 1,915,863.63636 minutes TOTAL payoff time. (Total Skill Points invested divided by average improved training time per minute.)

So there it is. For the average player who has a full let of +3 implants, the average training time payoff for training all 5 of the advanced learning skills from level 4 to level 5 is....

3 Years, 235 Days, 11 Hours, 3 Minutes, and 38 Seconds.

Good thing I only trained two of them to level 5. I hope that CCP eventually adds more learning skills for those of us that did train the advanced learning skills to 5.

Very nice, a good guide for the new EVE players on this forum. ::::28::

Yes, yep. It's not worth it. What should not go missed, however, is that it is *very* worthwhile in terms of return on investment to train them all to 4.

your math is just a tiny bit wrong. After you train each advanced skill, the training for the other skills will (minutely) be a little quicker based on your (primary + (seconday/2)) formula.

Not enough to change anything about the point you are trying to make, just an observation.

well its not my math its the math of a corpmate that works for CCP :P

    corpmate works for CCP?!?!

WTF? I knew they played the game and everything, but they reveal their identities to corp mate? That is not cool at all.

    Erm
So don't train learning skills past 4? I'm still pretty n ew so I'm trying to figure out what to do. I'm in the process of training Learning to 4 right now. I don't know if it's advanced or basic? I started two days ago. And it's been a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time since I played in beta.

learning is the normal 2% faster training for all skills skill

Then there are 5 more which increase your attributes 1 per level for each attribute. If you train those to 5, you can train the next tier of learning skills which increase that respective attribute another 1 per level

    oh god
so just to get the 'basic' learning skills up to 5 is going to take like 5 months? (Actually longer since I HAVE to train other areas as well during that time)

The skill system in EVE is pretty well done but only being able to train 1 skill at a time irks the heck out of me. I dunno about you but out here in what we call real life I can learn a lot more than 1 skill at a time :) If EVE let you train 2, maybe 3, skills at a time it would really cut down the annoyance factor with the skill system. And it wouldn't hurt the longevity of the game much because you'd still have to train for over a year for just the LEARNING skills... we're not even talking about combat/ship skills :)

No it wont take 5 months lol.. it will take you about 6 weeks or so to get all basic learning skills to 5 and advanced to 4. Trust me it pays off in the end. Thats 9 attribute points in each attribute. plus 10% for doing learning to 5. The first 2 months are not easy nor terribly fun. Thats why EVE has limited appeal.

so true, learning skils really make a diff, i only just stated to train them cause i wanted skills i could use to do missions and stuff before i started on them, but now i really love seeing how much shorter it takes me to train a skill every time i get a new attribute point ::::40::

Yeah I guess I forgot about the impact that having the skills has even on learning them higher. I'm already noticing a dramatic difference.

Yep. I tell all our new pilots to get all their basic learning to level 4 straight away....then when they have the cash get the advanced ones and get them all to level 4. If CCP introduce Super Advanced learning skills it might be worthwhile training the advanced ones to 5...but until that day...probably not.
