Why does only CoV build bases and CoH dont...doesnt that seem alittle unfair towards the CoH roleplay. Or do they already have that feature and I didnt check up on it?? Its just that CoV will have lots of things to do while CoH has allitle bit more lesser things to do. And dont insult me or anything if CoH already has this feature cause I dont check the features on it.
Comments
When CoV comes out CoH will get bases at the same time. But to get bases in CoH, I think you will have to have CoV also.
Wait....isnt city of villains just a add-on to COH?
City of Villians will be both a completely seperate game and an Add-on for those people who aready currently own City of Heroes.
NCSoft has not made clear exactly how they plan to implment this.
If you buy City of Villians you will play as a villian all the time. Never as a Hero.
If you own City of Heroes and purchase City of Villians, attach that copy of City of Villians to your City of Heroes account, and pay an extra fee WHICH NCSoft has not disclosed what price that fee will be you can play as both a Hero and a Villian.
An extra fee?
That would be a critical error.

Paying two accounts just to play a awsome PvP...this suks
yes i heard that 2, apparently if u already have a working CoH accoun then u will also be enitiled to a free CoV account, but the beta has only started so its long of to actually finding out whats really gonna happen
Where have you heard that? From everything I've read, since CoV is a stand-alone game, there will be a monthly charge, regardless of whether you already own CoH.
I'm hoping you're correct, but right now I don't think you are.

This is a snip of a FAQ thread about CoV on the CoH boards. Yes the game is standalone, but they are also considering it an expansion at the same time. So there is a few dev quaotes with some info on the subject. From what I understand if you JUST get CoV and dont have a CoH account, you will pay the 15 a month. But if you have a CoH account, and upgrade the account to CoH and CoV, you will get both for 15-20 a month. I have pre-ordered and my account has been upgraded to a CoH/CoV account.
The full thread can be found here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2976555&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#2976555
It has not been formally determined or announced by NCSoft/Cryptic whether the purchase of City of Villains unlocks the base-building feature or the Hero vs. Villain PvP zones for current CoH subscribers like the DVD edition serial number unlocked the Sprint variant and new cape style, or whether the a slight raise in the monthly fee will be required. Before you hyperventilate, read further:

On the issue of a hypothetical fee increase to keep both standalone games active concurrently:
- Gaffer mentioned no more than $3-5/month back in November of '04.
- bruce mentioned "somewhere between 'zero' and 'not much'" in May '05.
- Gaffer , Lord_Recluse , and Statesman have stated clearly and definitively that the company WILL NOT be doubling the fee.
How many times is that shrill air horn of a comment of 'I'm not paying $30 a month' gonna go off, lol? Of course you're not - IT WAS NEVER AN OPTION.
You're exactly right! {Statesman 5/24/05}
Furthermore, the company's internal discussion of raising the monthly by a buck or two is to fund the development of Issues for each game as regularly as they have for just CoH. The hypothetical minor raising of the fee to play CoH+CoV has little to do with additional server/bandwidth costs, and little to do with PvP, so people who think that PvP is ruining everything should avoid that blame card.

This is how I've heard its gonna work
Currently I pay 13 bucks a month?
If i buy cov and have a coh account, I can play both of them for about 2 dollars more.
So in other words
Coh subscription cost = 13$
Coh Sub + Cov Sub = 15$?
Cov Sub = 13$
OK here is the scoup...
You need CoV, to be able to play a Villian, or go over to the Villians land.
Second CoH will get bases and grpahics upgrades shortly after CoV release.
And lastly CoV will cost hte fully amount to buy, but if already own CoH u will pay between 0-5 dollars. The Devs have stated this a few times, and i honestly believe they are trying to get it under 3.
Oh and Mech check again ur paying 14.95/mo right now (We can all thank, SWG for that)
They've stated this a few times? I'd really love to see a link to any one of those few remarks they've said. Because I just looked on the CoV board, and the dev posted that they're going to be making their initial announcement about CoV's sub pricing soon.
So, I'd really love to see a link to this information you posess.
And if anyone thinks that statement violates the NDA, let me say this: Bite Me.

The fee is minimal. If you already own CoH and your purchase CoV, you will just add a CoV account to your already existing CoH account for (guessing here) less than $5.00
NCSoft has already expressed views you have had here and they don't want to charge everyone an arm and a leg to play both games.
CoV is not a expansion, its a seperate game, which has been said before. CoH will still get issues, CoV will get its seperate issues. And there probably will be content that goes to both between issues.(such as PvP zones, missions etc).
How would you suggest they pay for boths developement if the fee wasnt increased to pay for each team?
Some advice to everyone who has asked questions in this thread. I reviewed the majority of what you are all asking and they can all be answered by reading the FAQ and News sections of the COV official site. The Journal / Diary also describes gameplay and zones in the game aswell.
Take the time to read all about the game and its interaction with COH at http://www.cityofvillains.com/

"When you find yourself sinking into Madness, dive"
Its funny this is mentioned here. Because theres a lot of confusion on the topic of:
"Is CoV an expansion?"
Someone said CoV is an "expanstandalone"
There are certain zones (4 of them, feel free to correct me if this is wrong) which is shared by City of Heroes and City of Villians.
For the most part City of Villan owners (without CoH) can only stay in CoV cities.
For the most part City of Hero owners (without CoV) can only stay in CoH cities.
except! for the 4 shared zones.
Does this make sense?
As for the original post question, "Why do CoV Build Bases?"
It's like the justice league, they have a base called the watch tower.
CoV has bases and CoH will also have bases too probably in an upcoming patch.
(probably when CoV gets shipped as well)
Ok, for those who don't know, those who have CoH will pay $0 for CoV, just go to the store, buy, install, enter key, and play. So this means if you have CoV, you can buy CoH if you feel so inclined to later on! No extra cost, you play 2 STAND-ALONE games for $14.95. There are 4 PVP zones shared by both, I dunno the names right now, but one of them is Siren's Call. The PVP is optional....
Also (I'm not sure if this is true) there may be a way for heroes to become villans, I don't know if it goes backwards.
All answers are here: http://www.cityofvillains.com/faq/faq.html
I would like to get into these games (COH & COV).
Has anybody seen a package deal? Like both games for $60?
Seems like a natural way to promote sales to newbies like me!
Has anyone seen a list of base defense items for COV?
Like Poison Traps, false floors, laser defenses, guard dogs or robots?
Seems like it would be fun to really trick out your base and then issue a challenge for people to try a breach your defenses. Although it would suck to lose stuff and/or have to spend a million credits fixing it back up.
I'm sure they will have a package deal in a few month, but I haven't heard anything about a package deal at the launch of CoV.
Heres how it will work:
If you have CoH and you don't buy CoV, you will still pay: $14.99 a month total, you can play only heroes
If you have CoH and you do buy CoV, you will pay: $14.99 a month total, you can play heroes and villains
If you don't have CoH and you buy CoV, you will pay: $14.99 a month total, you can play only villains
If you have CoV, you will be able to build bases, if you're a hero or a villain. If you don't have CoV, you won't be able to build bases. Base building is part of CoV, so you gotta buy it to get base building.

From what I heard you can trick it out just like any of the bases that villains currently have in CoH.
I dunno about traps but definately you should be able to put sentry guns and henchmen and that kinda stuff wherever you want. In addition, apparently when you're out raiding other peoples bases or doing missions and stuff, you'll get special things that you 'find' to put into your base, like new technology and whatnot. Also, there are these types of mystical crystals that you can get, and you put it in the heart of your base and it makes your base more powerful, and one of the reasons other people will want to attack your base is to try and take that power artifact back, so they can put it in their base. Also, sometimes enemy NPCs will try and raid your base to get the artifact.
All very cool stuff
