LOTRO would be great fun to play together. Especially when you divide the roles/classes among eachother. Tank/Dps/Healer combo is really great to see most of the content. Especially grinding reputation and deeds wil be a breeze, compared to solo'ing it.

LOTRO has somewhat of a pay to play model implemented though, which he doesn't want.

I was going to suggest LoTRO as well but it appears you don't want a pay to play model along side the F2P offering.  That also rules out EQ2.

LoTRO has a fair F2P system if your worried about any disadvantages.  EQ2 is more restrictive at least last time I checked it out but is a fairly decent game.

Personally I would not play RoM, it's not my cup of tea and I've heard the item mall can be very expensive. What about Age of Conan, or may Vanguard soh as it's going ftp in the summer.

Actually you might have an issue with AoC if your brothers pc is a little old.

LOTRO can be great free to play especially if you know how to do it.  The best option for LOTRO free to play is to sub for 1 month only and create all the chracters you will want in that time.  Since they were created with a sub they retain a lot of stuff that you would ahve had to pay a lot for in the shop ike bank storage, bag storage, virtues, ect.

Maybe Ryzom?  It's a different animal altogether and is fairly easy on the system specs I believe.

I have tried Runes of Magic but can't recall much about it. I guess it didn't leave much of an impression on me lol.

What about Alganon, not alot of people play it but if you have your family to party with then thats not so much of a problem. I've played it before and found it quite a good game actually.

What about a game like Vindictus also. Not quite a mmorpg but I've heard it's quite fun.

Try Everquest , Its Free now and tons to do in it.  EQ don't require high system specs ether.  can get a  little tuff once you get higher up, but its fun, but if you need eye candy, Try EQ 2 or DDO (Dungeons and Dragons online). both decent free games to.

What about Anarchy Online? It's an old game and free to play with a few restrictions... shouldn't be too hardware intensive. I think you can get up to level 200 and might even include the first expansion. That would give you guys a pretty long time to play.

Im pretty sure Alganon is p2p after level 30.....Also when I played it I never saw another player ever lol..... Runes of Magic does seem like a good fit and there is a browser version of it now so you dont have to download it ..... DDO might not be a bad option either.....Ryzom is a good game but its very different and geared more towards crafting and harvesting.
