Stress Test Seemed Great, So what's Next?

After playing the Stress Test it seemed, to me anyway, that they had ironed out a lot of their sever stability problems. I played with no disconnects and no server lag what so ever (although I was at work for the first half of it).

So my Question is, What else needs to be polished? The only issue I can see as an outsider (non Anet employee of course) is optimizing the Game for GPU and the overflow separation. To me those two are really the only major issues I can see.

Anyone else experience any issues that need to be fixed before release?

    I had no lag problems during the BWE, but during the stress test the game was basically unplayable due to lag. PvE seemed mostly fine, but PvP was a slideshow. I logged in near the end of the stress test though, so I imagine a ton of other people were on.

    Stress test was used to test server stability, not client performance. Performance comes later, so avoiding slideshow now is only posible with better computer.

    Ima cry because right now i just got out of the hospital and i was so looking forward to this game, but can't afford it now. Sigh. Maybe one day. I have so many bills coming from being in there for three weeks. It looks absolutely fun, fantastic and i even got a new computer just before this all happened to me to be able to play but now i can't. Oh well. Did they release the other two race beginning areas yet i have yet to see anythign on that, that would indicate how close to release this title is at this point?

    Maybe slideshow wasn't the best word to describe it - the characters themsleves were popping around like a slideshow, the skills, environment, movement, etc. was fine :) my comp is very good and the game runs great, but the lag was very bad during the stresstest (which is the point of the stress test I know hehe).

    Wait it was running the same build? Is that why my client patched when I opened it for the stress test?

    Yep, same build. It was not a new beta event, just server stress test. Perhaps they uploaded some files to monitor player performance or something, but nothing was different from BWE.

    I also dont think thath the game itself has any major issues now. I bet the game is going to be released in 2 months max.

    I think they will provide us with at least one more BWE before they finally fire it out to the general public and I feel it will hit us back end of June or July. I also feel that they will let us play the other races in the final BWE.

    They do need to optimize the game mainly. That is a lot of work, and it is also possible that some zones aren't finnished yet.

    My guess is that next BWE will be 1-2 weeks from now, followed by one a month later. After that the game probably go gold and release another 4-6 weeks after that with first a free weekend for everyonefolloed by the official launch.

    So august is my guess.

    I think thats pretty resonable to assume, the question is will they only allow testing of Aura and sylvari? or just open up all the races.

    Looking at the recent patch notes it's clear they've tweaked a lot of things, and much of the long list of changes is performance & function related.

    A small touch, but I thought this was a fun WvW nugget from the notes:

    - Enemy pets and players are named with their shard name instead of team color. 

    Makes sense really. As does the new addition of a 'Go to WvW' button to the score screen.

    Not sure if those are real patch notes though. Anet hasn't officaly released anything about changes that I know of.

     

    ( I assume you are refering to the "leaked notes" from Guru )?

    Not sure, I don't check guru often, but it's likely the same set of notes making the rounds.

     It's totally possible they're faked of course, I personally don't get the impression they are though considering how internal and specific the syntax is.

     

    Edit: Actually, looking at the corresponding screenshots for some of the mentioned changes I'm less sure it's faked.

    Still lots of lag and meele is not fixed yet. Not sure why one would say it turned out great.

    Great in regards to Server stabiliy on a stress test.  Whats wrong with mele?

    Well, those of us that had no problems aside from an initial stuck at 95% loading for the first 5-10 minutes of the test would obviously say it turned out great.

    My wife and I are both able to play with everything on ultra (even in WvW) and had no graphic or server lag, so for us it clearly was great. Other people having issues doesn't change that.

    I think the problem with melee is people were initially expecting to be able to stand safely toe to toe with enemies and continually put out dps. Instead the game is pretty rough on melee (requires a lot of maneuvering to stay alive), which is made up for by the increased potential for damage melee specs get.

    I've found all 3 ranges viable with clearly balanced pros and cons personally. Sure range is safer, but it does not in anyway compare to the insane damage output I could get off in melee. I'm sure once people get used to it they'll see less of an issue.

    Agree completely, I view mele as "high risk, high reward",  not as something that is borken and needs to be fixed. Since all classes can range, I dont see the problem here.

    I submitted a ot of bug reports in regards to trading .Many a times it does not coonect and even if it does the sale mechaniccs was broken - Sure Anet is on top of that all teh same in the entire game the trading screen was taking a lot of time to load.

     

    I had read a few months back that they were redoing the asura charactr animations as players were not that happy in the alpha stages so perhaps they are busy with that.

     

    Overall is looked thoroughly polished had no lag , no disconnects no , performance issues

  • Basically I think they will release once they have a run a BWE and all the feedback seems to involve things that are not that big of deal.

    ie. They go through the forum and create a list of stuff people said was a problem or suggesstions they had and 80% of them give a "meh, yeah I see the point but not a big deal" reaction.

     

    There are still somethings they are clearly smoothing out if we look at these beta notes.  For example they changed the Ranger pet swap to not auto rez things.  That is a very important mechanic change.  They most likely said to themselves "Oh damn yeah we have to change that one."  From those patch notes it seems to me only about 10% big things though.  There were a few new things(mostly new UI things), a few important mechanics changes (Ranger pets, shooting with no target), and a large number of little smothing out things.

     

    Unless they have some extra stuff to unveil they will probably do the last real BWE after this next one.  So two BWE and either that last one will serve also as the marketing BWE or they will do a third as the marketing "preview" weekend.  Of course if the feedback on the next BWE is really "light weight" that might get stepped up.

    eather way,i heard you can cast and move in this game.so that pretty much fixes my issues ive had with ranged and casters in other mmos so i guess if melee is still worse then ranged and casters by release then maybe ill roll up a caster class

    If you look at the bottom of that page they added skill point challenges in WvWvW
