"Newish" is kinda the trick because some of the better f2p's are the ones that started out subscription and went to f2p later. What have you tried already or are already aware of?
Vindictus is sorta kinda maybe newish. Its the game Tera stole its combat from, made the dodge a button press instead of a double tap move.

Only ones i can think of are the pve mmo's like ddo or lotro and maybe vanguard this summer. But not sure if they count as newish. Also does b2p count in the definition of f2p? If so guild wars would be worth trying. Or there are the free til certain point games like anarchy online or ryzom but you'd have to play to suit the 'free'. And there's always eve online.
I was going to say lord of the rings online as well, but not really newish. It's hard to beat as far as its f2p model, but bear in mind it is also about a 9 out of 10 on the carebear scale.
Depends on what you're looking for. Vindictus is a good game, but it's not "newish", it's been out for years now, and it's heavily instanced. It is a good deal of fun though, so I'd give it a try before crossing it off the list entirely. I'm still waiting on them to release Kai before going back to it.
Spirit Tales just hit open beta a week or so ago, it's not a bad game especially if you like super cute anime characters, but it plays very similarly to Eden Eternal except it doesn't have the intricate job change system. That, to me, makes it inferior, not to mention it's purely kill x quests from level 1 to cap.
I'm forgetting a few but that's all that comes to mind right now. We're in the slow season right now, in the second half of the fiscal year is when you'll see more MMOs start releasing practically on top of each other
"Forums aren't for intelligent discussion; they're for blow-hards with unwavering opinions."
Vindictus is cool. Mind you, it does have items that prevent failed tradeskill combines and ressurection potions etc. But really, they only start to matter at the high-end, most players play Vindictus very casually and don't care about those items.
Mythos Global is a relatively new F2P ARPG that was released just this Feb. Although it's not the usual MMORPG, it's more like a Diablo-styled game. But it's free and not pay-to-win.
All F2P games I played in last ~2-3 years sell power or advantage one way or another. Similarly they usually make game artificially tedious or grindy and put 'workaround' for cash in store. Cannot say more if I don't know your definition of P2W.
Anyway they need to do it like this cause this is how they earn money on this model.
Made me stop playing mmorpg's and now I am extremly picky about choosing any future mmorpg to play. On close to 1 year hiatus already - only 2 games on my 'target' list for next two years - since all the others have not good gameplay and / or business model.
Better to not play mmo at all - than play yet another game and having to deal with impact of f2p / freemium have on a game sooner or later.
Not sure yet about b2p - I will make my opinion after I play for few weeks/ months.
We cant make long time plans in mmorpgs nowdays based on payment models.
A P2P today can be P2P with no P2W CS tomorow or F2P with P2W CS or P2P and P2W CS, and so on..
A F2P with NO P2W CS today can be P2W tomorow.
We never no.
I think we are in a midle of a great transition of payment model on mmorpgs and seems F2P are gain more power, after devs realise they make much more money this way then P2P.
We cant make long time plans in mmorpgs nowdays based on payment models.
You're right.
That's what keep me playing mmorpg's.
When I started playing mmorpg's - I played only selected titles, but I played one title for long time (1 year or more).
When F2P / Freemium thing started to hit the market, I was playing Lotro and for a long time. I then played in after Freemium transition as a VIP for over 6 months, but this business model and it's impact on gameplay drove me out.
After this I thought. Well I will embrace new thing and started to try all those f2p or freemium games and hop between them.
This happened to be very unsatisfying and not fun for me.
-------------
Nowadays I am very reluctant to even start playing cause I don't want to end up investing lot of my time and emotions and then having my game totally change it's game model.
Heck if they would foe example keep few P2P servers after transiting rest of game servers to Freemium and provide good support for them AND still advetise them , provide trials, etc that have a possibility of beign good enough.
That does not happen. Well SOE tried with EQ2, but they did it totally half-assed attempt (like they were sabotaging P2P servers + they put CS in P2P as well just smaller).
So after initial 'trying dozens of games' this change drove me back from active player of mmoprg's - to person that is more interested in genre from socilogical and economical point of view, but it not actively playing and is VERY cautious and picky as to if play any mmorpg in future. (decided on 1 title that will be released in next few months but still unsure about it)

Well, I wouldnt count them as NEW but I would count them as "newish" because "newish", to me, translates to "good as new" or "still using current technology" or "not having clearly disadvantages in technology in comparison to the newest games".
EQ1, for example, wouldnt be newish. It clearly is graphically outdated by a long shot.
All games that lock off in game rewards behind a cash shop wall are Pay to Win, because buying character development in a RPG (in any sense) is paying to not play the game and going straight to the prize.

Your standards for a quality gaming experience must be pretty low if you can can play a F2P for 1 to 2 years, unless it was a AAA turned F2P.
No developer puts much effort into building a quality gameworld when its F2P from day one. they put all their effort into balancing the game around the cash shop items not around fun.
But hey as long as your perception is that your getting "value" then your the perfect F2P customer, a real bargin hunter. I prefer quality over perceived value or a free ride.

I never stated that I played F2P game for 1 to 2 years. Think you misunderstood me.
I actually wrote that I do NOT play mmorpg's because they are f2p and I just stayed I tried many of them in last 2-3 years, but not even one of it was long term and I am sick of trying and hopping between them.
I agree wtih what you saying so I don't really understand why you seem to argue with me and what are you actually arguing.

I like pay to win. The 4 or 5 hours/wk I allow myself to play means I'm still paying less.

Aion maybe?
Define "Pay To Win"

Definately try Vindictus out. It is the best Free 2 Play game on the market.

Aion went free 2 play recently, I tried it out and liked it.
Here is the answer to the P2W argument:
You know damned well you can't stick with any game for more than 1-2 months, so what do you care? Just play something and shaddap.

Be my guest.
I do have arguments to defend my opinion about AoC and TSW though and I will be happy to provide them in those topics if it will be necessary.

Uncharted Waters Online seems to fit that bill not exactly new but all updates are free and the shops items don't promote a buy to win attitude.
