EverQuest II: Storm Support

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

EverQuest II today added it's name to those games that are trying to help out the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Not only are they encouraging players to donate, but they are also freezing the monthly fees for players who were affected by the storm.

Please Lend a Helping Hand In the Wake of Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina has left an incredible wake of destruction across the south. Sony Online Entertainment would like to ask you to take a moment to make a donation to the American Red Cross in order to help alleviate some of the suffering.

In EverQuest II we have added the /donate command, type in /donate to be taken to the American Red Cross's Hurricane 2005 relief page. For those members of SOE Communities in other games, you can contribute using this link, American Red Cross. The American Red Cross will process your donation and make sure that it is put to maximum use to help those whose lives have been affected by the hurricane.

Additionally, for our 13,000+ players actually in the affected areas, we will be suspending billing until such time as they are able to play again. In addition, any items or structures in any of our games, which decay over time, will be preserved until the user's next login.

Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.

Don't get me wrong, I feel with the people, who lost their homes and their existence, but I hope, this request is only for american people.

I think, nobody will help them from outside of the USA. The government of the USA should stop producing weapons and making military operations for ONLY 1 day, and they could get the money not only for their own people, but for the whole world misery. (What about Kyoto Protocol?)

I would spend money for everybody, if i could, but I think, the USA will stand alone in such cases...

It's a very sad thing, and i am sorry for this tragedy and this is not a hate-thing against the USA, but don't hold your breath, while you are waiting for the pity of the world.

This is an unexpected response from Sony. Hmm.. nope, not much more to say about this.

Maybe Sony should open their eyes to the problems that not only happen to the United States of America alone- tsunami, anybody?

I applaud sony for doing this.

Sometimes when bad things happen to you it puts events around the world into context. You appreciate the suffering others are going through because you have been through it yourself. We can all be guilty of changing channels when the news comes on because were not comfortable with what we are seeing.  I guess there are alot of people in the US that will better appreciate the impact on less developed communities of these natural disasters.

This is a horrible thing to happen to a person. No one should lose a loved one like this. The president needs to spend less on the militry and more on the people.

Maybe a disaster like this will open the public's eyes. What i think will most likly happen though is that after a month or so everyone will just go back to sleep and it will be business as usual for the bush admin.

I can already hear the "I told you so" global warming scientists..

President decisions don't equal Citizen decisions and its the people that are suffering not the president.

Those people decided to get this president, those people decided not to do anything against environmental pollution, those people decided to support the government in it's politics.

Sorry, we from outside see only, what your chosen leadership is doing in the name of the nation.
I know, many of you don't support this government. Then why don't you do anything???

You don't care about the rest of the world, why should the rest of the world care about you?
And as i hear, not even your president cares about you (the suffering people)...

I hope, this tragedy will open your eyes...

I am not so the political correct type, you know...

There are countries in the world, which have actually almost the same problems or had the same problems the last months and years, but you do not even know, where those countries are, or if they exist, not to speak of spending them money or supplies.

    So, thank you for conversation.

Say what you will about Sony, but what they did was a class act.  Good job guys, it may not seem like much to some, but that is one less thing those poor people down there have to worry about.  And I am sure that it is appreciated image

I cannot believe some of you are turning this into an oppurtunity to get on your soapbox and spew your political agendas.  This should be about HELPING the survivors and taking our hats off to SOE for doing their part.  This should not be about ANYTHING ELSE.  Shame on those who exploited this good deed for their own benefit.

Check your political views at the door.  It's absolutely distasteful to come in here and discuss politics when someone is doing a good thing for people who need help.

Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

You are so wrong and using this tragedy in this forum to hijack it and spread your rhetoric trying to slam Americans. How the hell do you know what Americans care about? Have you any clue how much the U.S. did for the victims of the Tsunami?

Judging from your name you're German right? What did German citizens do about Hitler? I wouldn't bring this up but you said right above this many Americans don't support this administration and why don't they do anything about it? Why didn't German citizens overthrow Hitler who was the worst world Leader the universe has ever seen?

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
