While people thinks game will be released soon, i desagree. When i played the beta weekend i found many errors in the game. The human and Norn storyline dialogs were incomplete, sometimes during the movie had no voice sound or incorrect voice, mixed up. This happened in some main quests. I used the mesmer and some skills wasnt working properly. Guys this is gonna take a while to be released, we must relax and wait is gonna be horrible if they release the game incomplete, lets just give them a chance to finish the game so we wont be disapointed with bugs, be honest we will criticize it much if we play a broken game,. or buggy like all other mmos are.
Everyone say they will release on June i say November and who knows.. but yeah i wish they at least fix the server capacity, the last stress test on a Monday (day nobody can take off) day everyone is at school and work dosent sound like a real stress test thats was a mini.
50 professional, paid QA testers will do more for bug fixing and content than 500,000 beta testers.
Mass beta events are used for generating metrics and statistics first and foremost, not relevant feedback/bug fixing.
Of course, the metrics and statistics can help reveal bugs, but all of that w/o a bug report.
Although that's roughly true, I've seen all too often that certain bugs slipped through both internal and external alpha and beta testing, and also weren't captured by datamining. The bug reports filed during stress tests and preview-type betas brought it in those cases to the attention of the QA team who then validated it, prioritized and put it through to the appropriate dev team.
Guys, keep the feet on the ground. BWE is not what you paid for, it's an extra so you don't have to wait on being invited. You will have your headstart and items.
Asura and sylvari are already done, it's not tested by a high number of player with the stadistic of finding bugs carried by it, but it's there. Is not something that needs to be done and we have to wait until they finish rendering and programming. That's alredy done. But if you expect to cover all the bug of another 2 races in a month when they are already overflowed with the initial 3, you are delusional.
They have to cover that first, then they will unlock hardware limitation and work on dx11 and see what kind of bugs are created by that. LOTS of games do everything all together and get overwhelm by the bugs and are unable to deal with them, with the consequense of a retail bugged game.
Relax and play something else, I'm still unlocking the hall of monuments for instance.
The point is, that with pre-buy, unlike preorder, they get the money immediately. So I can't re-decide, I can't cancel. They got my money, more or less blindly. So *I* think to compensate for this unusuallly great trust, demanding some more beta weekends are fair and right, especially since that was THE advertisement point from ANet, even if it would just contain the same level like with the stress test.
That would be complitely pointless form their point of view, since letting you play with the same specs as the last stress test would mean letting you play with the old crappy hardware that would lower their image as a game company. The point of BWE are not to let you enjoy the game before release, that's just something that comes with testing and nothing more (or as you said to advertise their game more)<---but precisely because of this they can't let you play a buggy BWE without resolving past issues that players already know from the first one, since that would lead to justified anger from players who spent time reviewing their gameplay and issue bugs notifications. We all want to play but lets not be selfish and leave them do their work .
when i see from leaks that there is already a closed beta running behind everything, i am really convienced that the BWE are just for public relationship reasons ... only the stress testes might be usefull to check the server with high amounts of players ...
from this fact i am happy but also sad, happy cause i know that they are not depend on a fanbase in order to search for bugs and problems but on professional testers(i hope they are..!) and sad cause i feel kinda fooled about all these betas, why they didnt call these demo weekends ?? it would sound more fair ..!
You are just half right and It's in the part of professional beta testers. There are indeed professional people hired to run around and find bugs, but that's just step 1. A pro tester will ensure the game is playable and have no major bugs on the main stuff. That's the reason why a lot of people feel like the game is good enough to be released, and the wrong understatement in the rest of games. It's playable, sure, but there are lot of variables not covered by the pros and it's bugged for sure.
When there are thousands of people playing the server acts different, you don't know if they can have a high load until you actually try it. They didn't know the overflow will separate partys, that's something they never tested before. Also a group of people have the ways of playing of just that group, they probably didn't try to go up every mountain, but thousands of player will find that bugged mountain, or that rock not solid which stuck you behind a wall. When yoy introduce a larger group of tester you are directly testing a bunch of variables you never tried before. So it's actually usefull.
For the "I buyed the game to play betas", well, I get it, that was your motivation but please, keep in mind that's just your motivation, the company won't move on your motivations. They do betas to test the game, they will have the same number of tester wether you buy it or not, it's just sending an e-mail to the millions who signed up for beta. You can prevent buy the game when you pre-purchase, that's true, but that's just the regular thing. When you buy something you should know what are you buying. The prepurchase is 3 days headstart, items and a centainty of playing all betas, preorder jus 1 day and items. You could allways waited for an email or to release or preorder. Don't blame others by something you should have known. I insist, you will still play the 3 days headstart as you prepurchased not 1 and the betas when needed by the company, that's all.
EDIT: Almalexius: And that's so right. Don't buy if you are not sure of it.
1) We don't even know if they are going to reveal the Sylvari and Asura in beta. It's very likely they will save those for release. Why show people who only use beta tests for a demo of the game everything the game has to offer? Yes, I am saying that you are one of those many people who view these BWE as a demo of the game. What are you going to do when they wipe everything before they head to release?
Also, the game is still technically in closed beta. They still have smaller beta testing going on in between these beta events. So it's not like they have nobody testing the areas we don't see.
I think they should test everything in the BWE. All races, all zones and all levels. The BWE crowd has already paid, so it's not a demo for them. If you don't test everything large scale, there will be undetected bugs.
SWTOR didn't test Illum, because they didn't have high-level players in their beta test. And it was a total mess. They clearly should have done a rollback there, but they couldn't because they already launched and they didn't want to reset the live progression.
Some professional closed beta testers just don't cut it to find exploits. You need a large crowd of gaming enthusiasts to find exploitable bugs.
Except not everyone in the BWE already paid. You also prepurchased the game to play it on release. The BWE are just added benefits.
We don't really even know the size of their closed testing groups. I've heard rumors of Anet inviting some of the top GW1 guilds into closed beta testing. I can neither confirm, nor deny it, it's just a rumor I heard.
And you do have a point that larger groups can find more bugs, as you can always count on the users of your product to find an infinite number of ways to break said product. However, I think they are mainly using us prepurchasers to test larger things such as server loads, and test things that it would difficult to do with a smaller group such as the overflow problems, and give suggestions that they can then extrapolate to the rest of the game.
After seeing GW1, I would say they have testing down and they know what they are doing. Anet is filled with ex-blizzard employees and I think ex-valve employees as well. Heck, Anet's founders helped create Battle.net. So I would say, we don't really have to worry about them shipping out a quality product.

well i dont say they cheated, i know what i bought ..!
i just say that the title "Beta Weekend Event" would be better if they announced it as "Demo Weekend Event", but as you said they are somewhere in the middle its not a demo but its not a clear beta, this messes the feelings
also if you say that they expect the player base to find those "little/big" bugs, this means that before launch, those who prepurchase will have played the whole game otherwise we will see same stories as the SWtoR end-game teritorries ...

In my opinion, those bugs are an extra. I think the whole idea is testing the servers and the databases and polishing edges of the general ideas of the customers (I'm guessing they are giving priority to the PVP on this part).
Some of the bugs I mention as an extra were already found and posted on youtube even unintentionally (like the charr's strawberry field video). Those are all benefits you get in the process, I don't think it is the main reason 'cos high end would be unplayable if they would relay on that.
