what to buy? or not to buy.

I was just sitting around at 1am when I decided that I should start playing an mmorpg again.  I played EQ from its initial release until shadows of luclin when I finally lost interest after about 4 years.  Just recently I played shadowbane for about 4 months before getting bored of the monotony of killing the same things because I couldnt go anywhere else without a rival pk group showing up.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of what I might like or what is good out there now.  I do tend to like fantasy more than sci-fi but I am a big star wars fan although I havent heard much good about SWG yet.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

    Why whats wrong with DAoC?

To me the best 2 ever mmrpg  is EQ and DAoC.

Well lets see... from what i experienced boring, short and uninteresting 'quests' .  The game in all did have great graphics... but i felt the gameplay (particularly the role playing aspect) was just lame.

Ah well guess its down to personal taste.

Mind you DAoC is loved by quite a few , with an active subscription of 250,000 only bypassed  by EQ and recently SWG.

So best bet for any game is try it out for yourself and see.

Take me for instance i recently had from a magazine a month's free trial of UO and decided to visit the world i left nearly 4 years ago.

I so hated it i deleted it within 1 hour of play and said "how on earth do people still play this ancient game?".

But it is down to personal taste yet again and UO has over 100,000 active accounts with loads playing the free shards so people must find what they love in it.

    All down to personal taste.

I am just watching the days slowly tick by as I wait for Horizons, Lineage 2, WoW, and EQ2.  I love EQ to death but after 4 years I dont really want to buy another expansion with only a couple months before the new games start coming out.

One of them needs to hurry and come out soon.  Its sad, but my boyfriend and I dont even talk to each other as much now that we dont have EQ to play together.  Says alot for our relationship huh?  image

I guess it was just really neat having something in common we both enjoyed so much and could do together.  I used to jokingly call our dungeon crawls with friends "group dating".  I have also found its alot harder keeping in touch with long distance friends via email and such rather then chatting in game.

Ok, not sure what got me started down this path, guess I am just sentimental about my time with EQ and eager to recapture that with a new mmorpg.  Dont mind me and my rambling.  image

I know, I'd do the same... it seems right now if the MMORPG's really wanted to earn money that they'd send out the new ones, ala the ones you mentioned, of course they wouldn't be finished but they'd certainly get the subs but ehh... it wouldn't do good for reviews so it might not be good in the long run... It's just the wanting to make a home for yourself in a world that's just so dang cool. :)

i'm going to play the waiting game too right now. i'm more interested in the next batch of new games than the expansions of the existing ones. i've got my sights on Horizons, WoW, Darkfall, and UXO right now. I hope that they don't hit all at once so I can get them all in installments.

    lol

all im really interested in is Horizons but.. WoW caught my eye for a while ;) so if they have an open beta ill try it hehe

EQ2 is still giving a 4Q release date but their website hasn't been updated in quite some time and open beta applications have yet to be accepted.  My guess is we'll be seeing EQ2 around early 3Q 2004.

Horizons is going to pwn.  I may quit NC for it unless DoY comes out soon. image

UXO looks dynamite, but I don't know when it will hit the shelves.  May be a wait there, too.

Unless you are currently beta testing the game i think you can't make an opinon that horizons WILL be good  or bad.

You can say i hope it will be nice and from reading it sounds promising but since you have not played it (at least the final retail version you have not for sure) you can't  really say it will be good.

Oh and yes misti I can relate to that.

I actually went on holidays with someone  i met ingame and we kept in touch regularly but after i left EQ we kind of drifted apart.

Koltrane, you might want to peek at www.everquest-2.com since for some reason it is usually much more up to date then the official site.  EQ2 was knocked back to "early months of 2004" and from the sound of the community relations guy, Moorgard, its looking like February or March for release.

Of course there could always be more delays.  image

Danke, Misti.  I hadn't seen that site.  I appreciate the pointer.

I am sure your account will still be there .Not come across a case when an account that was deactivated got wiped .

I know it used to happen long before but not for last couple of years.

  • sumerachanisumerachani Member Posts: 3
glad to hear that...like you said they used to wipe them after 6 months of inactivity
