For me it's the same old quest grind, same old gear grind, and the thing that makes me cringe the most, every screenshot I see, you will see a bunch of "LFG need tank/healer for blah blah." It's the same thing you've been playing forever and honestly, how have so many people bashed SWTOR for being an incomplete game at launch (myself included, SWTOR is utter trash) but no one has complained that Tera launched without all this pvp stuff?
Look, if you like it, who cares what I or anyone else thinks about the game? I think it sucks, you think it's great, play it, have fun.
Tera is a great game. I havent been able to put it down. The PvP requires skill. The PvE requires skill. The graphics are beautiful. The game runs great with a good engine. The armor styles and weapons are nice and well done. It requires teamwork and finesse. You can enchant, crystal, and even customize your gear. You can run and be elected as a Vanarch and have quite a bit of control in your province. (there are several)
I honestly do not understand what kind of game it will take to impress you people. Out of the handfuls and handfuls of games that have been release in crappy unfinished unfun uninspired conditions and you are going to start hating on TERA already?
Whatever.
I havent played GW2, nor TSW. I will probably buy and play both. However, i will confidently state i will be paying my first month on Tera and probably many many more. I even leveled and zerker and rerolled because of a few issues, no im not playing a slayer, and i still love the game to pieces. Sorry to hear, and a bit suprised, that so many of you dont enjoy it.
My server is packed with people and the newbie areas are so packed you have to wait for mobs.
I think half of you are just full of crap trying to put another shadow on another game, but this one doesnt deserve it. If the NA publisher or whoever keeps the game updated, which i think they will, i think some of you will regret sitting this one out. In a year it will be harder to level up on a PvP server, keep that in mind.
Once again, this game is a-fuggin-mazing. Give it an honest shot.
Different people like different things; just because you personally like something doesn't mean everyone else should.
It’s a matter of opinion and perspective, though you are correct in that some people will simply bash a game without even giving it a chance, and without even knowing what they are talking about; this is just how online communities work.
I think Tera is a decent looking game, but it is unlikely that I will be playing it. I find the quets very boring, making the levelling portion of the game dull and tedious; the action combat simply isn’t fun enough to overshadow this.
I can have everything that Tera offers minus the action combat (I don't care for the political system) plus more in World of Warcraft or Rift for example, both of which mesh with me on a conceptual and aesthetic level to a much larger degree.
Looking at Guild Wars 2 on the horizon, well it is certainly shaping up to be a vastly superior game on many different levels, at least as far as my tastes are concerned.
Bottom line is, we all have different tastes, and then there are those of us who just bash games for sake of it. Nothing new here.
Loving Tera so far. Playing on Essenia, having lots of PVP every day, it didn't get boring yet.
I just hope they won't introduce battlgrounds/warzones on the PVP servers since I've seen those kill open world PVP in other games. Nothing gives me a bigger feeling of archivement then solo rushing into a group of 3+ people and actually being able to kill one or multiple of them before they get me to run for my life. And that type of against the odd PVP simply doesn't happen in instanced PVP areas :'(

Sadly not all PvP servers are like that, too many people int he less populated PvP server are too scared to die. Idk its like they all playing hardcore mode or something where they have te delete their character if they die.... Our guild litteraly had to go out and troll the entire server to get some PvP action and guess where we found it? Lumber town.... massive groups of lvl 60s in lumber town -.- wtf is the point of single channel high lvl areas is everyone is in lumber town!!!
While PvP is lacking its still mainly community issue, people are too scared to PvP on PvP servers.... thus people have nothing to do until BG comes out = Well we doing out best to get the server to start PvPing. hope it picks up. The betas were nice coz people were like o shit there is only 2 and half days we have to PvP so everyone was out and about. Kinda wish the game is only turn on on weekends some times lol.
I would be playing Tera if it was B2P but too many good games are available as F2P to justify paying a sub for any game anymore.
I haven't manage to find a good F2P game that doesn't require me to invest hundreds of dollar to be at the top.... And spending 6 month doing what some one spend 3 days doing with cash doesn't count -.-

why do you need to be at the top? also i found only a handful of F2P games actually buy to win types anyway.. perfect world entertainment has some good games imho if you like the asian style art
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
Tera has a few negatives sure.. no video game is perfect.
However..
I still feel most dont give any credit where credit is due. And in this case, i feel quite a bit of credit is "due".
For example;
The number 1 complaint ive seen so far is the "questing system".
Im sorry to say but, after SWTOR, i dont care for that type of system. On major story quests, there can be a cinematic, and Tera has many cinematics. However, to stop and watch a movie or 20... at every quest hub? No thank you.
I enter a quest hub, pick up all the quests leave the hub and kill everything that has a quest marker over it. Which, in Tera, ends up being a good portion of the zone. When i cant find anything, i open the quest log and see what ive missed, which is usually nothing at all.
I would rather never ever ever see another SWTOR where entering a quest hub will take longer than running a dungeon because of all of the horrible movies needed to be watched. Even then, half of it was reused multiple times and the conversations half the time didnt make any sense or had terrible writing.
True, but TERA is suppose to get 4 way server vs server battles in the summer, if i'm not mistaken.
Yes you are really mistaken.

It's a game design issue. There are no objectives or places to camp. No sieges. There is nothing in the Open World that's worth fighting for.
And the few people that want to pvp have to go around the whole world just to find someone to fight. It's a huge waste of time so... they just go ganking in lower level areas.
The sooner the battlegrounds the better even if it means the complete death for owpvp.

Just saying.
i'd rather just not have quest hubs...
Just sayin.

I never understood why you would need something "worth fighting for". If I go and play a match of tennis I don't need anything "worth fighting for" either. Same goes for a match of chess or whatever. I enjoy the competition, if the PVP is so boring that the game has to use the carrot on a stick to make me do it, it's the wrong game to start with.
That said, I still would love to see sieges in Tera, loved them in L2 since they caused some drama leading to more pvp usually. Sieges are Open World PVP so no complaints about that either.

Well did you ever notice that there is quite the difference between professional tennis and amatour tennis? The first has prizes, objetctives and even simple tournaments to keep track for.
The second one doesn't. And it's perfectly fine but you have to keep in mind that most people want to have some recognition, some achievement and some objective to fight for.
Your personal taste is fine but you have to understand at least that.
Let's say you have 30 players around that want to pvp.
In the first scenario you just say to them "go around and kill each other that's your fun you don't need anything worth fighting for!". The first time they can even have fun. The next day will have fun too. After a week... less fun. After a month they won't give a shit.
Now let's just add a simple "carrot" (As you call it):
"Go around and kill each other! the last man standing will be awarded the tag for one week"
The activity is the same but the simple addition of an objective made the people care just a little bit more.
That's how you keep people interested! Add a keep to siege... make it so you can put your guild flag once you've conquered it.
See why people do want objectives? and pvp without something to fight for won't last long?
Another issue is that a pvp without objectives is just dispersive and a gankfest. You have to randomly roam an huge world just to find someone to fight. Where is the fun in wasting 10-20-30 minutes or hours everyday to find a good fight?
In a game with objectives (sieges, important boss respawn points, resource nodes, exclusive content etc). You know where the fight is on!
That's why Tera's owpvp design is bad and it won't last much... just some ganking from time to time until battlegrounds open late this summer.
The same happened in Korea. Owpvp is pretty much dead. And you should'nt really be surprised about it.

Wow, in fact just what I was saying in my post a few weeks ago.
If there is no reward for pvp, no objective, no leaderboard then no one will pvp. People would rather grind the shit out of dungeons to maximise themselves with gear before they even dare attempt to pvp. Even then most players won't want to fight without their friends to maximise winning chances. Then their friends need to grind gear to get that +12 also (or whatever). By then there will be a new expansion/dungeon they have to grind to get the best gear.
Open pvp is like that, most of these pvpers (lol), won't dare fight without the best chance of winning. If they lose once they won't go out again because in their minds the problem is their gear, which can be fixed through more grinding.
Bgs are the worst form of pvp, it's a pointless grind.
It happens every single time in every game in which pvp gives you no rewards. It dies off horribly fast as once people hit endgame they realise there is absolutely nothing to do. Ganking is fun for a week or so then its....blergh...
I don't go out of my way to pk but when it comes to me then i have no choice but to fight, I win some and lose some. I really feel the main issue is the guild leaders, oh sure they will war on several guilds but thats all they do and its up to the guild members to go find them. They need to be more orginized and designate a location where the war is going to take place then rally the troops.
The mechanics for epic pvp is there, now the dev's just need to build on it and add objectives and more pvp content.
