Being someone that likes to play mmo to be with other people, I spent most of my playtime duing with a girl partner, is Tera one of those mmo where you spend most of your time alone? Last few mmos i tried were mostly like that , and it gets boring after a while.

how do I answer this?
no.
So my first question is, what level did you get to? the first dungeon is early 20's then there is one later 20's. for the most part you need a group for these unless you go in above their level then you might be able to solo it.
The bams are usualy done in a group but can be soloed. These are the huge monsters that are found around the world starting in the 20's. The higher level dungeons/instances require a group.
many of the higher level quests benefit from a group as you will be fighitng groups of mobs wiht special attacks.
If you want to duo then fine do it. but if you make the effort then you can group.
but if you are asking if the entire game is forced grouping then "no".
One can do a lot of soloing and get to cap. One can also take advantages of groups and the fights are more managable as well as you getting group xp for grouping.
It's really up to you.

Bad thread title. People will get the wrong impression.
I haven't started, contemplating buying it, so that is why I am asking. I don't want another SWTOR where I was mostly soloing all the time and sometimes group up for those group quests story that no one stayed in group for social points.
The best content in the game is group orientated, like fighting Bam's, Dungeons, and world bosses. Most of the zone quest are soloable but its much faster with a small group (quest objectives are shared), also mat nodes can be shared with other players if you gather the node at the same time.
Short answer: its soloable but its gonna take you longer to hit cap and you will be missing all the best parts of the game.

TERA doesn't force you to group nor it forces u to play-solo. As already indicated, about lvl 20, u will be facing BAMs and go to dungones which r difficult to do solo. But its easier and more fun IMO when u group to do those quests.
Im end game capped. LvL 60 and geared. Working on my second character right now. Just so you know I do have experience with this game.
All that said. If your soloing in this game, your doing it wrong.
Not in the sense that solo isn't possible. But why would you when you end up missing pretty much everything this game has to offer. This game was built for grouping.
"In the immediate future, we have this one, and then weve got another one that is actually going to be so were going to have, what we want to do, is in January, what were targeting to do, this may or may not happen, so you cant hold me to it. But what were targeting to do, is have a fun anniversary to the Ilum shenanigans that happened. An alien race might invade, and they might crash into Ilum and there might be some new activities that happen on the planet." ~Gabe Amatangelo
I probably grouped up on my way to 60 more than any other game. Not only are there tons of dungeons throughout leveling, but every zone usually has some BAM quests and it's easier/more fun to do them in groups.
Can level a lot in instances or outdoor BAMs, but there are some solo patches. You can roll a healer and have her roll a tank and can group almost 24/7 post level 20.
how so when aside from dungeons you can solo pretty much everything in the game and in some cases even dungeons. Like all MMOs it's more fun to group but I don't see how this game really encourages grouping very much at all.
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
Heh -- this is actually the most forced grouping game I have seen in this MMO generation. From start to finish things are much easier and much more pleasant in a group. The items you want for crafting and for using come off group monsters. There is a system where if you outlevel monsters a bit before fighting them then nothing useful drops -- so anything balanced for a group is not useful to kill solo when you can kill them solo.
The solo play in Tera is far inferior to the grouping experience.
I have not found myself the "need" to group up once.. think you got "forced" grouping mixed up with "more fun" grouping.. any MMO is more fun grouping but this game is about as far to "forced" grouping as they come.

I agree your not forced to group beside for dungeons but than again so do most mmorpgs do that. When you can solo dungeons you might as well be playing a single player -.- (assuming your on same lvl) Only time i accept dungeon soloable is... well i'm willing to tolorate it if its for quest purpose only. Like you can enter solo mode where you get no drops or anything but you get your quest done.
And to Centkin yes crafting is easier with groups but not needed, also when you out lvl monster and kill them you still get tons of mats off them. Hi liek 30-40+ and go back to BOL and you kill the mobs in masses and you get tons of mats and even blues off the bosses. Makes making alt so easy coz you can take your lvl 60 to the lower lvl dungeon and solo them in order for gear =X
Aerowyn, you get xp divided for grouping which is understandable but then you get a bonus for being in a party so it's more than half xp per kill and you kill things quicker/more efficiently with less down time + the quests give the same xp, there's BAMs in every new zone you go into and 1/3rd of your quests at some points end up being BAM ones. At 40+ you aren't solo'ing BAMs, they are just too ridiculous and you'll die too much for it even to be worthwhile. Even before 40 they just take so much work, i've only managed to solo 4 BAM quests in TERA, other times I just found a party and had fun with it(not that solo'ing them isn't fun lol).
So in a sense, it encourages grouping a lot more than other MMOs, on a PvP server at least, I rarely see people solo leveling and much more often I see groups of 2-4 running around.
again my argument really isn't this game isn't more efficent or more fun solo or anything like that.. all I'm saying is unlike other games the areas I have been to don't have many or in most cases any quests that even require grouping.. I'm fine with this but I see people saying this game has lots of "forced" grouping or that it encourages it more than other MMOs. Honestly I don't see it, obviously grouping is more fun but that can be said about all MMOs for the most part.

Eh, it really depends what level you are, pre 20 there's not a single grouping quest and after that there becomes more and more, even some of the storyline quests require killing BAMs right now for me, the story quests also take you through the instances.
But yeah I know what you're saying, but just from my perspective I never felt the need to group in Rift or WoW but in TERA I'm always on the look out for a party.
First game I've played with "group gathering". I know it seems silly but the few times I've had a chance to play with it, the system was really fun and built so no one is left out. Everyone can gather from the node, the skill level of the highest person is used to even people who have neglected gathering aren't left out, and everyone gets the gathering buffs.
Running around gathering with 2 other people was tons of fun, just wish more people from my guild had tried out TERA, I'd be grouping a lot more then.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
Playing solo is a option in most mmos, not a rule.
While most people might group for dungeons, and might for the big monsters, some people won't. My main is level 22 and I have not grouped yet (on that character). My roommate and I have grouped (on another character for me) and questing in group is ridiculously easy (well, OK, questing solo is pretty easy), at least so far.
Toughest fights I've had solo were at level 21 in this marsh (level 19-23 mobs). One was a frog-riding named mob, level 23 (Rat-a-something or Rag-a-something), that I actually had to kite and dodge quite a bit. That fight was tough because I goofed and aggroed a group while kiting. He didn't drop much, but I got a significant weapon upgrade for completing the quest to kill him. That named was doing about 25% of my health in one shot if I didn't evade. The other fight was a named level 23 giant frog that did over 40% of my health in one shot if I didn't evade. I didn't see a quest to get him, and he dropped nothing at all.
Both of those fights were challenging, but they have been the exception rather than the rule.
